Yes you can OC the cards to a good degree without tripping the single PSU... :)

So, a question for those of you that have the NP7280, how "future proof" do you see your purchase as vs the new SB systems ?

I know nothing is gaurenteed, just a general question. Yea, I want my cake and to eat it also, just trying to hedge my bets here.

Fair enough, I was thinking along the lines of the proc in this vs the SB...but ok.

As far as gaming, or editing?

Gaming-wise, the 3Ghz desktop i7 is still more than any game needs. For editing, the Sandy Bridge CPUs are going to dominate the previous gen parts, and are worth the wait.

There will not be a SB laptop with these GPU options though for quite some time (At least that is my bet)

Based on AnandTech's review, I think I'll feel pretty good about the hexcore within my Clevo x7200 for some time.

scook9, what do you mean by that? That SNB based laptops won't offer an SLI option?

Only 2 companies would provide a SNB SLI laptop, Clevo and Alienware. Alienware will definitely not do a desktop cpu but the M18x, if it exists, will most likely be CF or SLI with the mobile SNB parts

Clevo will most likely have 2 models. One with a laptop SNB part (x8100 successor) and one with a desktop (socket 2011) part (x7200 successor). That is assuming that Clevo will want to offer both, which they may not - notice the x8100 is pretty much discontinued now that the x7200 is out. If they are indeed waiting to do an LGA2011 part that will be out mid next year I am guessing.

OK. I just wanted to verify you meant SNB laptop w/ SLI/CF. Thanks.

In regards to the post earlier in this thread, brianvp had asked about a desktop SNB in a clevo model. I'd read that, but wasn't thinking about this from a graphics card viewpoint. Although an SLI/CF edition makes sense.

harmattan, your explanation about clevo's timing of releases seems to be dead on. At least historically it has been that way for my last three clevo purchases.

Finally got my order out to me :) Sydney, Australia.

This has probably been covered and apologies for not being able to find it - but is there a way to get all the speakers to function when using youtube. and not just run in stereo. etc.

Anyone have a Centrino 6300 w/ Win 7 on their x7200? I cannot get the Wi-Fi to stay enabled upon boot.

In the intel Wi-Fi utility, I have the option to "Automatically enable Intel WiFi Technology on system startup" checked. However, every time I boot regardless if a configured wireless network is in range or not, I always need to "enable" the wifi card to connect to the network.

    TIA,
    Jeff

I was surprised as well -- and I even changed the config on my order during the build process. All in all, it only took about a 5 biz days from placing the order to shipment. Considering one of the reason I hesitating buying from a custom laptop was the stories I'd heard here about month-long wait times (I refuse to wait for a purchase for more than 2-3 days at this point in my life unless it's a car, house, boat or G650 :) ), I'm pretty happy.

I didn't pay the rush fee, but I did pay with a credit/brokerage card which doesn't get me the cash discount but goes through immediately. Figured cashback would have saved me around $100, but I get about the equivalent of that in points from my card anyway.

Can't wait to get this sucker.

Just a note to say these Clevo x7200 and Sager NP7280's have been shipping in about 3 days after your order without paying the rush fee.... :)

I should have been more clear, sorry. What I should have said is in the last couple of weeks it has been shipping in about 3 days after order. If you are placing a NEW order then it would probably be shipped late next week or on the week of the 21st of February... :)

i haven't had that problem, but have you considered disabling, removing the software, then re-installing it? also, is there a default windows management for wi-fi networks? I only ask because the software for the 6300 isn't something I've seen before, and it may try to be the default software and windows may be fighting it. Or i may be completely wrong. :)

but i did notice for the first time the wi-fi light blinking as a HD indicator light would react. it's the first I've seen it. I assume it's just the transmission of data. I've just never seen it do it.

According to the x7200 manual, the Fn-F11 keystroke will enable/disable the adapter. However, I'm just trying out how to get mine to be "on" and I'll disable it if I don't want to use it. I also can do this in the intel ProSet Wireless app.

Also Ch 7 of the manual lists Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Windows Mobility Center as a way to turn it on/off. Dunno if this affects the enabled state at boot/startup.

Finally, the driver itself has a "Power Management" tab which allows the computer to turn off the device.

I'm going to try different values and see if I can find the "magic" configuration.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Just a quick overview:
Til now everything works fine so far - 3DMark06, Vantage, Unigine Heaven, Lost Planet 2 etc. Crysis and Metro are playable with highest settings.

Here is a screenshot of GPU-Z that I took just a few seconds ago...

Review might take a few days, because I´m trying out and gaming some more ;).

So the 6970m's are themselves Clevo cards and not something that EuroCom shoehorned into an x7200 from another vendor, bodes well for official x7200 support :D

There should be a driver disk that came with the laptop. It has an ordering (01, 02, 03, ...) in the "autorun" program for what needs to be installed on this machine. The actual driver disk doesn't install any unnecessary garbage, so you can just install them from the CD.

However, if you want to be barebones (or at least ensure you have the latest), download matching drivers and install them in the same order you have on that CD.

Note, you can also "skip" anything. For instance, if you don't care about the fingerprint reader, touchpad/volume control, or the web cam, don't bother installing those drivers. You'll have unrecognized items in Windows Device manager, but it won't really matter if you don't use them.

One last thought. Unless they've refreshed the driver disk, it will ship with the Intel Matrix Storage Manager and the 8.9.x drivers for the ICH10R controller.

If so, you may want to use the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver (10.1.0.1018) as it may have some slight performance advantage over the older Matrix Storage drivers.

I still don't see any drivers or other updates for 6970M's on Clevo's website...

The latest info from Sager is " It's in progress but no ETA yet". At least there's some hope :)
