Nope. Although it decreases temps a few degrees, the fan is going to run. Mine hasn't been kicking on that much

Good to know, because I also wanted to test if there is an advantage when using it.

Hi, I'm going to buy a notebook soon and the W150HNQ looks really tempting. But as I could wait another 2 or 3 months I would like to know if there is any information about when a successor will be released.

About 4 weeks. But that was back when the matte screen upgrade was a custom job and they had a screen shortage. They didn't handle it particularly well but they did get it to me eventually.

I sold it 2 months later because I couldn't stand the keyboard or noisy fan. If you type for a living you may find, like I did, that it is excruciating to type on the NP5160 keyboard.

The screen was beautiful though and the overall build quality was pretty good. But the fan control in the BIOS/embedded controller is terrible and unnecessarily noisy, and like I said, the keyboard was the pits. Flexy and mushy and just awful.

Oh yeah and the speakers are horrid and the headphone jack can't produce loud audio (this is debateable but it was certainly true on mine).

The keyboard judgment is also debateable.

I love the keyboard on mine, it is probably the best laptopt keyboard I ever used (and the first chiclet as well). It feels much more comfortable and responsive to type on than my past Inspiron.

And I do type a lot...
But it sure is a personal thing, everybody has different hands.

My headphone jack works normally (using Windows, haven't tested much on Linux). The internal speakers are just terrible, but its ok, I have decent external ones and a good pair of headphones.

Hi guys I've been using this laptop about 2 weeks now. The unit I got came with a win7 home prem. and not latest drivers. and when If I remember correctly It gets something like 4.55points from cinebench r11.5.

Now I installed Win 7 ultimate 64bit. and the score I got lowered to 3.88. Is it because of the OS? I suspected thermal throtling but I opened the back of the case and put it a 120mm high speed fan to take the heat. While benchmarking Cpu was reaching 98C before and it fell to 72C But the score didnt changed 3.88. I dont know whats wrong? Any Idea?

Click on that little battery icon on your lower right corner -- more power options--change plan settings--change advanced power settings--scroll down to processor power management-- max processor state and just cap it at 99%

I wouldn't really judge performance by the windows experience rating, it seems to be based heavily on your graphics performance. Mine says 5.7 on this laptop and like a 8.0 on my desktop which is only a i7 920, no sdd, but it has a current video card. Not sure why else my desktop would be so much higher unless its the graphics card.

The VGA button (provided you installed the latest video drivers for BOTH intel and nvidia) is the Optimus switch. You toggle from green to orange and back with every press. Green means that the system will be forced to stay integrated (perfect if you want to ensure good battery life on the road) and orange is normal mode which allows for switching to dGPU.

    Hello all,
I just recently received my Sager and I've completed installing windows and all the drivers that came in the driver utilities packet (totally convenient!).

I just have a question about NVidia Optimus, I'm not sure about this but is there any way to set it so that you know it is on Discrete card? I can't tell if it is switching because I can't see any notification in the system tray about the NVidia adapter being put to use when I hit the VGA button.

Is there also a way to set it to ALWAYS use the discrete card? Thanks

I don't think there is a way to always use the discrete card, that's what the white-list is for. (Just right click on each application shortcut and select to run with the high-performance graphics).

And the 2nd of the small lights after the VGA is the indicator that you are on the dGPU. If you notice, the first and second lights after the VGA are never both on at the same time.

No modifications needed at all to mine, it just slips right in. Maybe the seller changed to a different type of caddy? Make sure the sata and power ports line up and it should work.

edit - as long as its 12.7mm and the ports line up I dont see why the caddy wouldn't work.. correct me if im wrong :)

Anyone know where I can get a replacement fan for these? Will my reseller send me another one under warranty or do I have to send it in? Mine is starting to make a funny noise and Id much rather just swap it out.

By all means, if you are under warranty, you can ask for a cross shipment of the fan that is defective. This should be no problem for you. :)

You can go with any 12.7mm slim line Bluray player:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, CD / DVD Burners & Media, Blu-Ray Drives, Slim Internal

For the exterior bezel, you just remove that from your old drive and swap it if you want the exact same thing. (assuming it fits correctly- it can vary by drive model).

It may still be easier and less annoying to go through a reseller for a compatible model though :)

Yep, it will slide right in. You'll just need to screw it down via the retaining screw in the hard drive bay. If it doesn't come with the tab needed for that, you can borrow it from the drive you're replacing.

Bought it in April I believe. But, I only use it when on travel, so it doesnt get used every day. Maybe 2 months worth of use, 6 hours a day, plugged in the whole time.
Second test is it is running a movie from the hard drive, not a disk. at 1 hour it is at 55%/

Is it just me or is the stock wifi terrible? It always drops the connections when connecting to my campus, but I guess it's fine for home wifi.

You can try to reinstall the driver for it in the link below...

    http://www2.sagernotebook.com/Sagernotebook/misc/12WLAN_RNP51X0.exe

The stock WiFi is limited compared to the Intel 6230 or 6300 and the Bigfoot 1103. These are low cost upgrades for your machine. When you can why not get one of the above from your reseller? :)

Are they external cards or will I have to crack it open? If it's like a WLAN card and not a PCI or PCI-E card I'll probably just buy it and do it myself.

Ordered my 5160 from PCtorque about 6 months ago. My left mouse button is messed up and feels like its not attached anymore, it still clicks but its very loose. My biggest mistake it seems is that pctorque is either out of business or just ignoring me. Any ideas how I can get another mouse button? its not a dire situation as I can still left click other ways, its more annoying. Thanks

Happy owner since whenever it came out... April?

My biggest annoyance is actually that the keyboard input will freeze when I come back from standby. When I'm trying to enter my password to get into Windows (7, 64 bit) one of my keystrokes won't register meaning I usually have to retype it. Anyone else have this issue?

The only other issue I've had is: the speakers sound good, not even tinny, but just so SO quiet. I'll turn everything up to maximum, and turn loudness equalization on and everything on the equalizer up, and can still barely hear movies. Hanging the speakers over the edge of the desk, so the speakers are not obstructed tends to actually make it worse, because the sound goes towards the floor and under the desk. Earbuds solve this issue, but it'd be nice to not ALWAYS have to use earbuds.

The speakers are just basic non bass laptop speakers. Clevo has nothing to change them too. Either use , like you have earbuds, or get laptop speakers that plug in to laptop. Logitech z305
