One thing is important:
Resale value
Sager is relatively unknown brand and most average joes like shiney brand names.
As a result, it is harder to find buyers for Sager but easier for AW etc..

Are there 15" Alienwares that have SLI or dual HDD bays? -
Actually, Dell appears to have discontinued the 15" Alienware. Dual HDD is only available in the 17/18" sizes, and SLI only in the 18"
I don't know if it is possible to put a HDD in the optical bay, but that option is not available on Dell's website -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Well in my defense, lol, the MSI GX660R is 16" and can fit in Dual HDD Bays
Mr. Mysterious -
Oh one more quesiton, can you just remove the dvd drive and put in a hard drive in the laptop? Or do you need something special?
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
You need a HDD caddy to put a hard drive in the Optical Drive bay. They cost about $40-50. You can purchase them from any reseller, including us.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
No, you can definitely do that. But you need to order an Optical Bay Hard drive caddy from your reseller. Put the hard drive of choice in your caddy and pop it in.
Note: You can only run SATA II speeds from the optical bay slot.
Edit: Malibal snuck that one by me lol
Mr. Mysterious -
Can you do an ugly half assed connection yourself with just a very small sata extender cable and power cable?
I don't have the laptop yet
I'll buy the caddy eventually regardless, though why is it so expensive? It's just some plastic... Having Windoes and something like BT 5 would be a nice combo.
I'll probably buy if from Malibal instead of Xotic, since I bought the laptop from Xotic, and I shud spread the love <3 -

Why not just run off the primary harddrive? Are you getting an SSD? It's pretty much useless to dual boot or grub Linux with Win7. If you get an SSD and this laptop with at least 8GB of ram, you'll be able to run virtualizations all at once and much faster.
There are HDD caddies on ebay that are $10-$20 shipped and they do work but they don't have any hardware for attaching the plate from your optical drive ontop of the cover. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R...&_nkw=optical+caddy&_sacat=See-All-Categories
I don't know what you are thinking. Why would you need a power cable? You could use this: Mini SATA cables
But how will your harddrive stay stable? It will just sit in the big empty hole where the optical drive used to be. -
I agree thaT IS one sexy laptop. If I didn't want a crazy gaming laptop that would be mine in a heartbeat.
-
Ah, my laptop has shipped. Happy day! Arrives Wednesday.
-
Congrats! When did you order? I'm hoping mine gets to Xotic for the free RAM upgrade soon.
-
Ugh, like May 17th. But it's only been in production since last week, as nvidia pulled the GTX 460m stock, so Sager was waiting on the release of the 560m.
-
Good to know that they're shipping laptops that went into production last week! Mine went into production Wednesday, so hopefully that means it'll ship to Xotic in a few days!
-
Why would I want to run a VM? Weak graphics acceleration, and using any of the stuff that requires monitor mode drivers in Loonix would be useless.
Anyway, what do you think the sata cable you linked me to is? It's a power cable with a SATA data connector, I never said molex connector if that's what you think I meant meant.(I meant having the two cables but in seperate connectors, makes no difference though) I could snap off the front of dvd drive and just stuff the inside with something.
OFC this is one ugly hack, so nah I ain't guna ruin nice new laptop <3.
Those caddys you linked me to, any of them work for the sager? I'd measure myself but I do nut have it yet. -
Hello guys.
I have bought this ultra sexy Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Wireless Card Brand New
Intel WiFi Ultimate N 6300 802.11n Wireless Mini Card | eBay UK
Now I tried to install it in my laptop and I couldn't find where it goes.
Can some1 help me out with the installation?
I have removed all the case screws but all I found was the hdd and the cpu / graphics card cooling systems,
Do I have to remove these as well? (I am not very eager to do that since this will probably remove the thermal compound on the cpu)
Thanks in advance
-
All the caddy needs to be is SATA to SATA and 12.7mm thickness, the 9.5mm will fit too but will be loose.
-
The WiFi card is under the keyboard to the left hand side of the laptop.
-
Cool thanks. I have another question though:
How do I remove the keyboard? I didn't see any screws attached on it. Is it like clip-on or did I just miss them? -
Aite cool, I'd rep you again but it won't let me; buying this guys.

I don't know if it's different for the 8130 than the 8150, but here's a video of someone doing it on the 8150: YouTube - Sager NP8150 Keyboard Removal to access RAM DIMM's under keyboard‏
-
It's exactly the same so that video will indeed work for the 8130.
-
It's tricky. You have to pop off the speaker grill from underneath the laptop, which reveals several screws that hold the keyboard in place. This xoticpc review might help:
YouTube - Sager NP8130 Video Review by XOTIC PC‏
fast forward to 16:00min
This is also how you access the 2 of the 4 RAM slots.
EDIT: Ah Moocow beat me while I was looking for the video, but I'm pretty sure it's the same for both the 8150 and 8130 -
Here's two excerpts from the service manual that may be useful too:
-
Hey guys, I have a question, I bought my 8130 everything stock with the 500gb hdd and all. But now I want to put in a SSD in there, is it possible for me to do it myself? anyone done it? any suggestions would help.
-
Dead simple for the user to do, two screws to undo the bottom cover directly under where the trackpad sits, the cover doubles as holding the HDD in so you just pull the old drive out put the SSD in.
Take the insulation plate off the HDD and put it on the SSD for better seating too.
Hope that explains it. -
Thank you, so I can't have both drives in there together?
-
If you need to do that, then you'll need to get a caddy and place it in the optical drive bay slot. Which means that you'll lose the functionality of the optical drive....
As the 8130 has only a single HDD bay, the only way to have 2 HDDs is this way.....
edit: A few pages back I think there was a discussion on this....or it might have been in mysterious's review thread not sure which -
Anyone else receive their 8130 who ordered recently (With a GTX 560m) ?
I got mine today and stuck in a 128GB C300 SSD and put in Windows.
I received a carrying case with it too which I wasn't expecting, and it looks like an LG screen vs. the AUO, but it's still matte and looks good.
Both the 2630 and GTX 560m run cool while idling (mid-upper 30's) and under Furmark the 560 only hit 80c which is pretty good for a laptop GPU... the CPU also hit upper 70's under LinX.
Haven't tried overclocking yet but I'll get 3D Mark and some other programs installed.
Only issue I had has nothing to do with Sager or Xotic. But the HDD caddy I grabbed off ebay doesn't fit. It appears to be identical to the DVD drive I pulled out but it gets stuck just before it should plug in. Because I was just going to move the 500GB drive in there for secondary programs / data.
Anyways, just thought I'd check up. -

How are the hinges on this badboy? Do they make any creaking noise or any type of noise when opening/closing or readjusting the screen lid? Or is it totally silent and smooth?
-
That's some neat scores. Nice setup aswell! Does the temps go over 80 while overclocked? Do u use some external cooling? What's your ambient temp?
-
Ambient is probably mid 70's (Fahrenheit) ... No external cooling...
And the highest temp according to HWMonitor was 84c on the GPU and 80c on the CPU...
Also to benchmade24, the hinges on mine seem solid. Silent/smooth and it doesn't wobble when you're hammering away on the keyboard which I've experienced on some laptops. Keyboard is pretty tolerable for a chiclet too which I usually hate.
So far, really happy with this purchase. -
Does the combination of Fn + 1 work on NP8130 to push your max fan speed?
-
Just tried it, Yep... works fine...
Gets a little loud, I don't think it ever got that loud under full load even. So If you're willing to tolerate it I bet you could have lower temps with it running at max speed.
I also didn't even look into redoing the thermal paste on the CPU or GPU... I have some higher-end paste that is a pain to apply but works well. -
Smooth as silk... (had mind for a couple of months now). No noise whatsoever. And the hinge in pretty tight, the screen won't move on its own either. Not quite enough to lift the laptop if you lift up the screen without holding it down, but just enough to make you think it'll lift up.
-
Thanks for the help guys!
I installed it in 5 min after I saw the video!
Now I have 2 questions:
1. The Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate has 3 antennas but the previous one only has 2. So I have connected the antena plugs to their previous possitions (one on each edge). If I don't connect the 3rd antenna do I lose signal streangth and how can I connect the 3rd antenna?
2. I have lost bluetooth connection. Did the previous card have bluetooth in it as well and if it does how can I have bluetooth again without having to add a b/t usb stick?
thanks guys
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
The Intel 6300 does not have bluetooth capability, but the 6230 does. That's why you don't have bluetooth anymore, you will have to use a usb stick.
Mr. Mysterious -
Ok so I made up my mind and am going to purchase this beast from Reflex Notebook Canada - Your Source for Sager Notebooks and Laptops in Canada
But a question to the owners out there.. when you purchase the laptop did you buy the "Guaranteed no dead or partially-lit pixels for first 30 days of purchasing" insurance??? It costs 100 dollars and I'm not sure if 100 dollars is worth it for just 30 days?
Your thoughts? Has anyone's laptop screen get dead-pixels or partially-lit pixels within that 30 day period???
Thanks for your input. -
Typically you don't get dead or stuck pixels after you receive it. It happens back in the manufacturing process.
I've bought numerous computers and LCD Monitors over the past few years including just now a Sager 8130 and haven't seen a stuck or dead pixel in forever. Even on displays with 4 million pixels I couldn't find a single dead / stuck one. -
Another thing..
So for the desktop sandy bridge motherboards... the P67 mobos do overclocking but no gpu switching, but the Z68 mobos do both gpu switching and cpu overclocking...
But I don't know for the mobile versions.... I believe the NP8130 has the HM65 Chipset... so what does this chipset do? CPU OC-ing or GPU switching? Or both?
Thanks,
EDIT: PS: Uhh so how glossy is this "15.6" Full HD LED-Backlit Display features 95% NTSC Color Gamut in Super Glossy Surface"??? lol I don't mind the glossy screen on my old laptop but is SUPER GLOSSY like soo glossy that it'll blind you when sunlight shines on it? lol;; -
It's glossy, so by definition, it sucks.
JK. It appears to be less glossy than Alienware, which is practically a mirror. -
Eh, I got notified this
"New status: - - - Shipping to Xotic PC Nebraska plant to avoid California TAX - - -"
Ordered on 6/2, it's 6/7 today... ugh, I feel like I'm going to be waiting forever ;'(
I thought they weren't even in california to begin with, and why not ship it to like Nevada which is right next to California? -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Don't worry, lol. Just do something to distract yourself and it will be in your hands before you even realize it.
Mr. Mysterious -
So true, but still hard to do <3
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
If your reseller is in Nevada like us then that is what it does. We get units in the NEXT Day from Sager and the factory then ship it back to customers in California the same day.
In southern California it arrives in one day. Northern California in 2 days the most.
_ -
Unfortunately for me they sent it to Nebraska which is like half way across the country.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
PowerNotebooks.com is in Nevada as well
-
I ordered on 5/19 and I'm still in phase 2 (I do have to go through phase 3).
But on the bright side, when I go to phase 3, Nebraska is basically "on the way" to Michigan. -
Wow, I ordered mine on 5/25 and its in phase 3 right now. I am in TN, so who knows how long it will take to get here. Been in phase 3 for a day.
