Oh good lord there's heaps in this site! Any specific one I should look at?
(Oh I'm not a US resident....hopefully they'll ship worldwide)
EDIT: Oh nevermind found this one:

Idk what the price of that one is but xotic sells them for $40 here
-
That's going to be sweet!

Hmmm just thought of an issue... Is my new laptop going to fit my backpack? I have a nice victorinox backpack that I can't remember the size of but fits my current laptop xps m1530 with it's sleeve just fine, probably with a decent amount of thickness left, but the new one is much thicker, almost twice as thick, so will it fit in the 15.4" bag? At least I think I have the 15.4" not the 17"...
-
Any idea why the 485m drivers aren't on the nvidia website yet? I only see the 480m ones.
This is the bag I got.
Skooba Design Skooba Computer Satchel 2.0
Look at the dimensions for the compartment on the site, what I can tell you is its a snug fit, any smaller and it would be too tight for the laptop to fit. -
I opened a support ticket with Nvidia Corporate support yesterday because I was curious about that too. This is what they sent back:
In other news, anyone have any suggestions on coolers and bags? I've already got a Swissgear Scansafe bag that I love, but it's getting a little old (I may just replace it for a new one though). I have a ton of coolers, but they've always been budget and pretty terrible. The Thermaltake CLN0008 looks promising though.
I've already got a Logitech MX1100 that I love as far as mice go though, so just the cooler and bag are really necessary. -
I was wondering the same thing, I've got a swissgear backpack that I've been using as long as I've had my laptop (which happens to be the exact same one you have). Do you not have the extended battery on your XPS? There's no way that the 2 inches or so of the 8150 is bigger than the monster of a battery on my m1530, it's at least 3.5 inches deep in the back, enough that you get a pretty decent slant on the keyboard when it's open. Even with that massive battery, it fits pretty decently in my backpack now. I hope the 8150 isn't bigger/heavier or I might end up leaving it at home more. The XPS already weighs a good 8lbs now..
Did you ever have a problem with your 8600 chipset? I know there was a class action suit about it, but I never had an issue until lately. I had Dell replace pretty much all the internals this week because my warranty is about to end, and I've had random overheating lately and black screens which I figured were part of the chipset issue. -
Always a fan of Slappa stuff ( www.slappa.com), not saying that because we pimp their stuff on our site.. but because I actually use one, great bag, keeps the laptop nice and comfy and its comfortable to carry around with me. IMO.
-
Im thinking of getting a timbuk2 command 2.0 M size messenger bag for this laptop. Any idea if it will fit?
-
Thanks for the info, +rep.
As for cooler suggestions I just recently recieved my Coolermsatser SF-19 and I can surley tell you I am NOT disappointed. Max temps for the gpu went down from 85c to 71c! And I got 85c with the fans on maximum with the laptop but thats under furmark. Normal gaming without the cooler it hits 79-81c with max fans in bad company 2. Now with the coolers fans on max and the laptops on auto (IE no FN+1) temps never go above 70-71 on the gpu. With the cooler also cpu cores idle temps went from 45-50 to 38-41c (and thats on low fan speeds on the cooler).

Finally this is the bag I got for my laptop.
Skooba Satchel 2.0 Laptop Bag
Fits the P150HM perfectly. -
I'm actually digging the Timbuk2 bags, mostly because the company is pretty awesome with the warranty stuff.
Has anyone read the x7200 owners lounge? I was cracking up in there the other day when people were posting bag suggestions of rolling luggage and camping/hiking backpacks (apparently with both power bricks and the laptop itself, you could be hauling around 20lbs).
Thankfully this is more reasonable.
EDIT: Quote from the x7200 thread that I found hilarious:
-
Is the 15.4" HardBody PRO too small for the 8150?
-
I don't know what you're laughing at. Roller bags at LAN parties is totally the hottest trend this year and beyond.
ANYWAY, I have a Crumpler and I like it. It's been going strong for the last 6 years, but I am starting to look at slappa because, well, maybe my new baby needs new threads
-
8150 Dimensions: 14.80" (w) x 10.08" (d) x 1.38"~1.69" (h)
15.4 HardBody Pro Compartment Size: 15.5"(w) x 11.5"(h) x 2.5"(d)
So Nope should fit. -
I had one issue that I repaired myself where my laptop would not boot up, turned out the OS was corrupt... I took out the HDD put it in an enclosure, backed it up and it worked fine after reinstalling OS from the disk that it came with. However the fingerprint reader never worked right again even updating drivers etc...
My laptop is getting hot enough to cook eggs on when I have the graphics card going in a game now though, played some SC2 the other day and it was too hot to put my hand comfortably on the hand rest...
I still have a couple months on my warranty, think that I have enough of an issue for them to do replacements for me?
Oh, and my battery only lasts an hour now, any solutions for that one? -
I used to tote around a Shuttle SFF PC with 15" monitor and all. It probably weighed less than that X7200. It was pretty powerful gaming machine too, and all fit in a small dufflebag. Just required two power cords for monitor and computer.
-
I used to do that too!
-
When you're looking at a laptop as big and non-mobile as that x7200, why wouldn't you just get a much cheaper, more powerful desktop and monitor and maybe buy a dolly anyway?
I've always wanted to mode my full tower desktop case so that the blank side of the case has a built in 22" monitor - no need for a separate one. -
Thanks for the links to these other backpack sites. I didn't know about them. Anyone know of a good, large TSA backpack with large compartments and can hold the 8150 or 8170 snugly?
Still debating between both machines
-
Yeah, that would be awesome. I ended up going with the Shuttle because I did frequent LAN gaming and toted to my friends house. Then I started buying more powerful laptops and realized I no longer needed a Shuttle.
-
Yeah, with your current rig, there is no need for a desktop.. htwingnut!
-
My current desktop rig has 3 285's and a core i7 965 overclocked to 3.8Ghz, all running on H2O. 2 WD Raptors in Raid 0, and 6Gb of corsair 1066 ram. All that beefiness and I ever since I got my laptop I have yet to turn it on again XD
-
I have an oldie ATi X1900PRO and a Core2Duo E6750...it was great for its time. I used to think gaming on the desktop was the bomb, till my sold Sager entered the fray. I finally have a girlfriend that I can bring out to dates i.e. to work, libraries lol
. My desktop leaves much to be desired now...
-
Even though the X7200 is huge, heavy and pretty non mobile, it is still a hell of a lot more mobile than any desktop will ever be. I was thinking this myself with regards to desktop purchases. I have an old desktop and it takes up a lot of space, it is more hassle if i ever wanted to sell it and I really have no option but to leave it where it is.
Simply for the extra space and more options, i would go for a less powerful desktop replacement than a fully fledged desktop. Space is very precious! -

Oooooh
Is that you, Larry?

Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
No. That is Alex. I am 6'3 and look like a linebacker...
-
Either he needs to workout more or it is still damn heavy. You can see it in his arm
-
Da*n...
I'm even thinner than he is .. can't even think about the X7200 now.
-
Haha instead of RMA'ing a failed x7200, you can use it to exercise and pump some muscles
-
I'm thinking about getting this bag for my new P150HM:
Timbuk2 Bags - Q Backpack - Mission6 Nylon Fabric
They have a wierd measuring system for dimensions, and it looks like it comes up to about .5 inches short on the width. I'm thinking they may just be being conservative to avoid having people return the bag. I don't want the next size bigger, because it looks too large.
One of the people in the review section says they couldn't fit an M15x in there, but I think the M15x is about 2" more in depth than the P150HM. I would think with an overall outside height measurement of the bag of 18.5", I should be good to have .5" over on the "true width" as they describe it. -
I'm sorry, but whoever considers 15lbs to be too heavy to carry seriously needs to eat a steak and do a push-up or two once a month...
On another note, Targus and SwissGear bags are not bad at all, and the prices you see at Best Buy are not necessarily the cheapest. shop around online and you can get them for at about 30%-50% off Best Buys price.
Here, shop around.

what's your guy's view on the warranties? 1,2, or 3 year for the parts.. all have 4 year labor w/ MYTHLOGIC..
i've been going back and forth between then, and i'm sure my rep is going to shoot me for wanting another quote after i decide, but i cant figure it out. i figure in a year i'll want ivy bridge, then probably will upgrade the graphics in the next 18 months..
you guys think it's worth the extra $$ for more than a year? dont most parts go bad the first year if they're going to go out? -
i found amazon to have great deals on swissgear bags
-
Nah its all good, I won't shoot you I promise

Looks like its almost over... 3 more days, and perhaps less than a month for resellers to resume -
Yeah! My current laptop is on its last legs.
Oh, I forgot to say hello. Hello! I'm CleoBlue, a newbie to the forum with an 8150 on order with xotic. -
In all fairness to your first point, it's not the laptop that I'm worried about. It's the laptop + the power brick + 3-5 college textbooks + class notebooks. That's a ton of stuff and it really adds up. My backpack on a good day is 40-50lbs. My plan for next year is to carry my netbook + kindle with ebooks of all my textbooks as much as possible, so I can get by with a messenger bag. The x7200 just adds a ton more weight than say, the 8150. Which is important for me (and others I'm sure).
To the second point, Swissgear backpacks are fantastic. My current ScanSmart Swissgear bag is TSA approved and it's the longest lasting/most durable/most comfortable bag I've ever owned. It's just been a hard life on it lugging the aforementioned heavy class stuff around. -
Wondering the same thing as you mathis. Seems like a solid bag. If you do buy hit up amazon its about $50
-
The question is, do you really need all those textbooks? I ask because I had been guilty of buying textbooks that I probably opened twice in a semester, and I still got through college just fine. Having a good lappie/notebook to take good notes is more important imo.
-
There, fixored yer post!
-
For taking notes.... you don't need good laptops!
-
Doh! sssssshhhhh! I am trying not to lead him astray, yall
-
Any requests you guys want for me to test with the 460m and 2820QM?
Some results are in the thread :

In case anyone was interested. Here is my 3dMark11 score. Low temps under load is thanks to the cooler master SF19, and fyi everything is stock, no overclock on the GPU.
-
I'm definitely getting the 8150. My only dilemma is whether I should get it from malibal or Xoticpc. Are the 8150 base models different on Malibal, because they are cheaper? Any suggestions?
-
Ask around the other resellers as well.
To be honest, I would go with either
1. babyhemi (LPC-digital) - has the best price hands down
2. mythlogic - Lots of customization options not present with any other reseller
If you're gonna go with the specced out model - babyhemi has the cheapest prices and with free shipping. If you don't believe me, just ask him for a quote..
Mythlogic has awesome screens, and also has some interesting options regarding warranty, pixel guarantee, and RAM. But their prices are more expensive than others.
Your pick!
This is a gorgeous laptop..
-
Those are both ~ $1600 base configuration.
Is there something better about the base models from these resellers that i'm missing? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You need to contact each reseller to find their best price. Don't just go by the advertised base price.
Then, also consider their Customer Satisfaction record, and how long they have been in business.
Price isn't everything
-
You need to contact them to find out the best prices..
I saved tons. Be nice and courteous, Larry will do the job for you.
