Is it possible to undervolt or downclock the 6970m to reduce power usage and increase battery life when doing non intensive tasks(working with Ms Word etc.)?
According to notebookcheck, sager's with 6970m battery life on idle is 1 hour shorter compared to one with the 485m(so it's about the same with 460m?)
Also, maybe it would be possible to turn off/slow down fans during idle, as sager with 6970m is running cooler than 485m on idle. I think it's because of non-stop working fans(??)
Sorry for such stupid questions, but I really can't decide what to buy - well configured 8150 with 460m or almost base config. with 6970m![]()
-
Not even the nVidia GT330M in my old sony down clocked as much as my GT485M does in idle mode. It's incredible that I get 3 hours of work with this fully spece'd out notebook on battery alone. nVidia has done a great job in powersavings with this card.

@ tellmewhy - mind giving us the review link of sager with hd6970m?
-
nice! hope they won't go out of stock
too bad multicom dos not have the 95% screen:/

I know it's not sager but I think It's almost the same(?)

im getting kinda confused. from the loking down at the laptop (not disassembled), is the gpu on the left or right of the keyboard?
-
The GPU is under the numpad, to the right.
EDIT: Not directly under the numpad of course. -
has any of you guys with the machine tried any heatsink modding yet? have a bunch of ram heatsinks that i might put into it if there is any gain
-
erm would I be able to disable the discrete gpu through bios or smthing? If not thru stock bios than is there at least a modded bios out there that allows me to do so?
-
Hi there I recently got my machine and I'm experiencing the same problem with fan throttle how did it go away? Did you change something? It's annoying
Thanks in advance -
no you can't the motherboard doesn't support it .
-
saw some postings that the EC/BIOS update improved the fan behaviour so that its "smoother" to the ear ^^ (i can verify that as well, btw
)
P150HM current EC BIOS -
Thanks for the info appreciate it, do you remember which postings you saw?
Have you updated to System BIOS 1.01.06 and EC firmware 1.00.04 (2011/3/25)? -
should be in that same thread actually, if i remember correctly. and yea, i did just that
-
yeah, that's gonna suck if that happens lol.. It changed to 2 business days left last night at like 1030 I think so idk what that means, but it hasn't updated it's location since 1:30 yesterday afternoon :/ that's almost 23 hours. Where could it be going that it would take that long? I mean i can drive from Austin, TX to Orange County, CA in 23 hours lol
yeah, I hope so
otherwise I may ask them for another solution. I'm sure it was around $150 for the drive+the enclosure, so I'd want something that works and wil be reliable
This is good to hear
thanks for the info
-
Mine's stuck at Departure from Hodgkins, IL, United States and hasn't updated since 8:58am yesterday.
Since you seem to have the same problem I'm going to just hope it's their system right now and that nothing's been lost.
-
Don't worry ZahariasX. Mine didn't update for like 3 days. Probably because it was in a truck for almost the whole trip.
-
Thanks for the piece of mind. Good to know I have nothing to worry about now!
-
so is the 6970 a battery killer / portable heater when you aren't playing games ?
I'm about to purchase from mythlogic and may go with the 460 since I don't play games. -
I do not think you'll need the 6970m if you're not playing games...
The 460m is more than enough for the average user. -
Thanks for the info.

Go to YouTube and search "np8150". Look for the xotic pc review part 1.. They go over the screen a bit.. Might give you a bit of an idea
-
thanks, have some rep too.

Just updated to the latest bios but I seem to be having the same cycling issue with the graphics card every 10-20secs it ramps up the fans then goes silent probably happens 3-4 times per minute
-
well, join the club, i had to downgrade back to 1.01.04 because of this annoying SATA port SSD issue: P150HM / NP8150 BIOS issue with SSD drives
would be nice to have access to the fan controls so we could fix the cycling issue! too bad that speedfan doesnt work here!
cheers -
Yeah it is quite irritating I wonder what clevo's track record is with fixing issues like this
-
Guys, I just noticed 8150-S1 model have the option to change to Matte by default. Is it recently added or is been there since launch?
-
That new screen option has been available for about week or two.
-
Oh. Thanks Alot!!
Finally, I can get a matte screen for 8150! My eyes are saved!! Haha. -
i assume thats a similar screen to the one on the 8130?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes this it the exact Matte screen that ships with the NP8130.

And let me vouch for the screen on the 8130: It is excellent! Good viewing angles, no glare, good color reproduction (in my opinion, anyways...I'm not a photographer or anything).
Mr. Mysterious -
hey guys its me again. i reinstalled my win7 prof os and now my loading times have significantly increased like skype used to take 1-2s to load now its takes like 7-8s. when loading nvidia settings from desktop its also doubled the length in loading. what could be causing this problem?
i've tried ccleaner, defraggler and there's no virus or anything. i;ve done ton of scans..
any help would be deeply appreciated -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
You need to go into msconfig (just search for it in the windows start menu) and then go to the "startup" tab. Uncheck all of the unnecessary processes, and that will speed your startup time immediately.
You will need to restart though (a box will prompt you).
Mr. Mysterious -
hey mr mysterious thanks for the quick reply. i have almost nothing running at start up. its not the system start that bothers me, its the loading time of programs has double now after my reinstall
-
i dont think he's talking about boot times.. seems like the times it's taking for programs to load are taking longer than they were before..
SSD or HD? model/size/firmware? -
hi hizzaah. i have a momentus xt 500gb driver. i have it updated with the latest firmware sd25
-
wonder if the fresh install messed with whatever the ssd section had remembered from before. just go through an open those programs a bunch of times, and you'll get your speed back
-
Just ordered this in the uk. (chassis is P150HM) Cant wait!!

sweet! wish i could've swung the 250gb version of the 510 in my rig.. maybe next time lol
-
yo hizzaah any way to get the ssd to forget my previous install? haha
-
i think it did when it formatted itself for the fresh install..? thats why you lost your speed. thats how those XT drives work.. once it figures out what files you'll be regularly using, it'll store em on the 4gb ssd part and will speed em up
-

I just tried to install the G.SKILL RAM some of us bought a month ago.
I think I installed them correctly but when I tried to boot the laptop up, the screen would not turn on!
Does anyone have a video of how to install RAM for the newby? I have seen videos that show the slots but not how to put the RAM in
I felt like I was going to break the RAM lol.
edit: The screen on max brightness is SO BRIGHT! Should help finding keys at night =] -
sometimes it does take an little bit of force to get the ram to seat correctly.. shouldn't take too much though lol
