I'd go with the second one. It's worked for someone before in the past.

Would an aftermarket slimline Blu-Ray slot-loading drive fit? I hate tray loading drives.

I currently have the Sony AD-7700S DVD drive. Looking to replace with the Sony BC-5640H BD/DVD drive. They're both in the same series and have identical dimensions. Obviously, the face plate wouldn't match the P150HM's slant but I could live with that.

^ You can try swapping faceplates. Original is detachable.

Get rid of movable tray faceplate part and mod it to fit over the slot one.

Fixed the trackpad problem by cutting out some leftover invisible shield. Functionally perfect, cosmetically a bit iffy but the bubbles should work themselves out.

The answer is because of an extreme shortage of 6970 cards. Nothing will replace it in the near term...if ever.

The choice now is between the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 192bit w/1.5GB GDDR5 and nVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M w/2.0GB GDDR5

Mythlogic, I'm just throwing out a thought here. If I were to send you my PC to have a 6970M installed in there, would that void my warranty from XOTICPC?

Obviously Xotic wouldn't cover the new card....but still.

Can't speak for Xotic as to the warranty issue. But we would warranty the video card. Also you do know that you would need the 180W adapter for that P151HM for it to work properly.. The 120W wouldn't work.

Mythlogic, I know you can't say anything much but is the 6970M really being phased out? I mean I just got my lappy 2 weeks back, it's a shame if it's already outdated...

Anyway, for the ATT issue I posted about earlier it seems to be game specific only. Crysis warhead has the in-game FPS running fine.

Just because a product gets phased out, doesn't mean it's "outdated." If AMD is supporting the 4-Series cards still, you can rest assured that your 6970 will be covered in drivers for a long time to come. Also, if for some reason the GPU should fail and there are no more around to replace it, you most likely would get the next-best model to replace it, a 6990 or comparable 7xxx-series card.

Don't sweat it. Enjoy your system.

The cards are just in a hard-shortage. They are hard to make and kind of fragile. Which leads to the double whammy of hard to keep in stock. So thats why they are probably be phased out by Clevo, not worth trying to manage stock on something they can't keep in stock. I'm sure you'll still see them from the likes of Dell etc. They are still being made.

Oh ok that clarifies things quite a bit. Not that I mean it's outdated like a 4XXX series, but I mean getting a top-end AMD card and it losing its flagship status 2 weeks later. After all, my com was delayed for almost 3 weeks, and then I had to wait an extra week to change my drive.

If these cards are fragile, are they safe to overclock then? I've been getting 93 degrees C when I OC mine to 820/1050, it's stable and no artifacts can be seen, but then maybe I shouldn't? Or should I just get a cooler?

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I got my 8150-s1 a few weeks ago and I absolutly love it.
93* C is way too hot for an OC. That's not good for the card life. Why is yours running so hot? I can OC mine to 860/1100 and it never gets above 82* C. You should try getting a notebook cooler or even just elevate the rear of the laptop. I undervolted my card to 1.025v with an OC at 800/1000 and it runs perfectly stable never getting above 78* C. I Know every card is different, but you still shouldn't be seeing such high temperatures.

    Hey guys,

a couple of days ago I have asked the Sager Tech Support to send me the lastest version of BIOS/EC they have. Today I got an email from them containing 2 ISO files:
    815bv11bs
    815EC07

They have just mentioned how to install it but no info on the fixes/add-ons... even I can't tell what version it is.
Haven't installed it yet... anyone has any idea about what new fixes it brings and what the version number is?
    thank!

this might be a tad late But...

The 11.6 drivers for 6970 are horrible. They seem to stutter the graphics card, lower frames and crash. Don't know if its just me but I'll stick with 11.5 for now.

Are they acting like that even with uninstalling and doing a driver sweep on the old 11.5? Just want to check, though driver glitches aren't unheard of in new releases either.

Well maybe it's because of where I live. In my country, ambient temps can reach 30+ degrees, on a cool day. On a hot day, it can even reach 37!

From what I've read so far, the 6970M seems to be getting a load temp of near 85 degrees. My normal load temp without an OC gets me about 87-89 degrees, so it's not very far off. My OC is stable though, no artifacts or anything like that.

Btw guys, I seem to have a real slow BIOS load time. It takes about 30 seconds even before Windows starts loading. I would even say that Windows loads faster than my BIOS. Any later BIOS revisions that I can get that loads faster? Or any way to cut down load time? I've already disabled the boot logo and changed boot sequence to my primary HDD.

Wow, is that with the fans on max? Just to be safe, I would try to keep the temp below 90 degrees. Most would say that under 95 you are safe but temperatures in that range will shorten the life of the card.

Hey guys, just placed an order for the P150HM-S1 with 6970M and looking forward to it. I had to scramble to get the 6970M since Xotic is already sold out. I got it from Malibal and it was one of their last ones left. I hope that's a good thing (they're selling out and not issues with the card).

The only usb device I have connected is my mouse. How long does your bios loading take?

Unfortunately, it's not fast enough for the original Crysis with very high @ 1080p...

Something really weird going on with my laptop. I was part of the initial MB recall for Sandy Bridge and I got it back a week ago but I just started gaming on it tonight. Not even 5 minutes after loading a game the caps lock and num lock starts flashing and beeping and eventually the laptop shuts off. If I unplug it from the AC power it will go much longer before shutting down but eventually will turn off.

This seems like heat issue to me. Can someone post what temps they are seeing under normal web browsing conditions for the stock processor? My overall laptop temps are 52C which seems high to me. I also have one processor core hitting 5 degrees higher then the other cores so I wonder if is the processor overheating. Video card is sitting around 38C while I type this.

    Thanks for the help.

at what ambient temps are you hitting 52c.
iirc the 5c core increase could happen depending on what your browsing and surfing at the moment. i think ive seen it on my laptop too but more like 3c.

I'm gonna be selling my 8150-s1 (460m) specs below, downsizing for portability (buying i7 13" macbook pro) and the fact that I just don't play games at all anymore. reasonable offers entertained.

email directly to generalzodschicken at Gm@1l d0T c0mMm (you'll understand this if you're not a bot) if you're interested or have questions. i have used this laptop primarily in a business environment doing heavy virtualization demos with 0 issues, outside of that it has been used for music production and has been well taken care of in a smoke free home.

this computer has not had the motherboard switched out yet so caveat emptor (I have had 0 problems with it though and it is still obviously under warranty.)

your cpu idle temps are well within normal limits. it could still be a temp issue but my guess is that it is gpu related.
check if your temps under load. could be that your fan was not wired or they forgot to apply thermal paste.
the reason you probably get 'better' results when using battery is because the gpu is purposely underclocked on battery.

Thanks, I pretty much thought of all that and we are on the same page. I already re-pasted the CPU last night and it made no difference. I am going to contact RJTech in the morning to see what they say. Really disappointed because I just got this back from the motherboard recall

I did notice the CPU fan isn't coming on until upper-50 degrees, that seems a little high to me. I wonder if the bios they flashed the unit with is not working as intended.
