only one gpu choice?
-
18.4" is huge, I doubt I can fit it into any backpack
-
Yes
Some resellers offer a fitting backpack as an optional accessory

Holy wow...Any news on the weight?
If I had to guess, it'd be like 10lbs x.x
Mr. Mysterious -
According to the specs the weight is
So you'll need to add the weight of the disks (up to 3). -

I'll add this device to my guide when it's official
My take: Not for moi, but it will fill a few peoples' needs. So...good job, Clevo! Diversifying and expanding your market is always a good idea
Mr. Mysterious -
It won't take long - I have ordered the monster today
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
In less than a week this baby will be shipping.
_ -
It lacks the choices of graphics card
-

Come on...this is clevo. Of course it's upgradeable!

Oh darn, it only has DUAL nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 192bit w/1.5GB GDDR5 in SLi...and for under $1,700.00
I guess if that is the only complaint we are doing OK...eh?

This thing is a beast!

Welcome

i really hope this machine come with higher configuration of gpu and add on PSU just like the x7200, IF possible
-
Looks like a battleship
Like everyone has mentioned, seems lacking with GPU choices. Wondering why the 580m/6990m isn't included right at the beginning; lucrative and attractive if they were included. -
So far I've found about 10 resellers offering the P180HM and none of them sells it with a more powerful GPU. This suggests that perhaps the barebone has some kind of technical limitations - heat and power restrictions maybe?
On the other hand: One of the resellers (EvolutionsX) offers the option of buying it without GPU, which suggests that you could buy & install a GPU by yourself (which is probably not an easy thing to do). -
Or a financially prudent thing to do
How would the dual 560m's compare to the single 6990m? -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It has to do with the power threshold of the system. At this time Clevo has designed this with the 220W Power Adapter, thus any dual GPU setup would have to meet that.
The 580M, 6990M does not in a dual configuration.

Hi there, I just bought a brand new notebook (Sager NP8180-Gaming Laptop) from Powernotebooks.com after searching through forum after forum for great deals for atleast month. They had wonderful prices, definitely beating any competition that ive come across, and gave me free shipping.

According to Notebookcheck.net DUAL nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M cards in SLi are a bit faster than a single Radeon HD 6990M. -
Hrmmm, I was tempted by this new Clevo P180HM, and I was thinking back and forth about single higher ranking gpus over two smaller gpus in SLi.
SLi GTX 560M vs. single GTX 485M, GTX 580M and Radeon 6990M.
And I may just go with a single GPU note book my self, considering SLi almost always involves special driver treatment, one game may favor SLi more than another, results may vary, and blah blah. -
It does say the GPUs are "user upgradeable", so I'd expect you could plop in two 580m or 6990s. Hopefully, the higher-end cards become a standard option because I see no reason to get dual 560s over a single 6990 or 580m.
The PSU is 300w which could likely handle the higher cards unlike the x7200 which had the power suck of a desktop CPU to deal with.
We knew Clevo was coming out with a high-end Sandy Bridge contendor... my questions would be 1) is there switchable graphics 2) what's the battery life? 3) what's the display like 4) what's the build quality/hardware like?
The use of the same old, non-backlit keyboard is decidedly unfortunate. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
@ harmattan, this unit only has a 220W PSU unfortunately.
Also I will be shocked if Clevo incorporates switchable graphics for this upcoming beast.
We all hope for a top of the line display, a 120Hz.... we hope.
As far as the build quality if we go by what Clevo has done in the past with these desktop CPU systems, it should be solid, built well. This is what many say about the x7200 now...

a x8100 was being sold by resellers with 2 x 6970m, the problem for me is not whether you trigger the psu shutdown, every system can go OVER the recommended point, the problem for me is if the bios officially supports the cards 485m/580m
can one of the resellers in here take 10 minutes out of there time and just put in a 485m/580m and boot up into bios really quick, just confirm if it's detected, hell if you want boot both into windows and just confirm that sli option is there.
that's the bottom line question at the moment, what cards does the bios support, only way is to test, resellers can clarify this if they put in the cards in the system and check
edit: o btw what panel does the barebones from clevo come with n184h6-???
edit2: also resellers of the x8100 had options for 470m,480m, but not for sli(maybe they didn't want to take a gamble on shutdown during load) point is that the 470m/480m must have had bios support, otherwise they would have ran into the 2gb ram limit issue like i did when i poped in a 485m, it's very possible this motherboard can support newer cards. -
^Same observation here.
My reseller is actually selling NP8180 with 2x580Ms...so I was wondering how is that going to work out. -
With a 220w psu, and if the motherboard can't support a higher watt psu, dual 560ms is about as high as you could go.
I don't see the point of this laptop
I suppose if you REALLY wanted an 18" screen, but didn't want to shell out $2000 for an x7200...
-
i don't believe that theory at all, nobody has TESTED, a gpu doesnt consume 100w power all the time, plus that's just a default threshold, it will consume less, not to mention it's very likely to operate over required power usages, depending on quality of the board
if your reseller is selling a 580m, that mean's that the bios detects the card, which is a huge plus, however it also might mean your reseller didnt get stock of barebones yet and is assuming, again no tests only speculation. -
By ,"adding information" does that mean that you will be building the 8180? If so can you give an approximation of what, "shortly" is?
-
you referring to me? i don't recognize those quotes. Right now nothing has been officially released or shipped out so i'm not building anything ATM, if the bios supports other graphics cards, would be very informative, and would enable sli/crossfire.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
No one is saying that the 580M, 6990M or others will not work in this machine, it is that Clevo will not back it with support at this time. It is a warranty thing.
I suppose if a individual reseller wants to use those higher end GPU's then they are on there own. This is my understanding.
_ -
I am buying it because I want a laptop with 18" + 3 harddrive bays + BluRay Burner
Regarding the GPU, for me personally a 560M SLI is more than enough.
-
nobody can say anything period, nobody knows, however facts do remain at the moment currently it's all about the bios, reseller can put in a different card, but if no bios support prepare to have a crippled system, like x8100 was with unknown vga card.
warranty or no warranty will not change the bios supporting the cards or not. thats what i would definitely like to find out, but i guess waiting game...
edit: i wonder would your company be willing to try out different model cards in the p180hm next week
-
Clevo should just have made it with a 330 watt PSU like Alienware does with their M18, then the problems would be solved, cause if this baby had the support of 2x GTX 580s, then i would absolutely have bought it.
-
Who is your reseller?
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
^ I'm pretty sure that Thisisalamp's reseller is LBO (Logical Blue One) in Australia.
Mr. Mysterious -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
This is interesting...I wonder if your reseller is using a different PSU.
The 220w one that Clevo is sending out with this machine will not support the Dual, SLI 580M's or the CrossFireX AMD 6990M's.
These cards themselves pull 200w when under any load let alone what the CPU, Display and other components need.
_ -
Yup, even with a 330W there's a chance of hitting a PSU limit if you begin overclocking the cards and CPU.
-
so did anybody get a np8180 yet, nothing is uncertain until it's tested, by the way can one of the resellers answer a small question what panel is the p180hm equipped with,
you can download hwinfo32/64 and it will give the display model number. i'm guessing a n184h6-l02(wondering what revision) -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I can check on Monday about the exact model of the display. It totally escaped me to do so earlier...
_ -
use hwinfo32/64 and run it, there will be a monitors tab, just expand it and take a screenshot if you can, it'll display the exact panel that the p180hm is equipped with, as well as week, date etc etc -
Believe in Larry, he's a pro.
-
i'm just stating the software, i'm not aware of any other software that shows such accurate detail of the lcd panel down to the week of manufacturing, so he'll most likely use that.
-
Since this little baby is pretty new, i'm having trouble finding some information about it.
How's the heat?
It seems that 560m sli is ahead of single 6990M but what about heat dissipation in the P180HM? -
Those "gaming buttons" on the side seem...odd and out of the way. Anyone have one yet and are they individual buttons or do they alter the original keyboard keys like holding ctrl or shift in some games?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
You might check in the below thread for info on the gaming buttons. The x8100-NP8120 has the same layout.
Sager is out of stock on these for a week or so. Sorry.
