    Hey guys,

Just got my 8180, installed all the drivers from the included CD (some slightly older nVidia drivers are there). Now trying to install nVidia's latest drivers. Went to their site, downloaded the drivers for the 560M, Windows 7 64-bit, but when running the file (version 280.26) I get the following error:

This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

So, I went to the Windows device manager just to check, and there are two 560M's listed.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

You have to use the included drivers, or mod the nVIDIA drivers as the P180's subsystem ID's aren't in the mainline nVIDIA drivers yet.

    download this

    HWiNFO64 Download

and take a screenshot of the monitor tab so we can see the panel, use modded inf driver for nvidia, also do you have any other video cards you can test out on the system, wondering what cards bios can potentially support

Congrats on your new machine! Yes for a time you may need to stay with the drivers on the CD.

If you can, and you do not mind, please tell us more about your machine. Not many at all have chimed in on theirs yet. :)

    Hey,

Thanks for the suggestions regarding the graphics drivers - keep em coming :)

lzykocp1002 has made a modified driver, should I give that a try?

Will get back to you about impressions... for now, still trying to get everything the way I like! Been trying to figure out how to get the volume icon (that appears in the top-left of the screen) to stop appearing, when I adjust the volume via the function keys or via the touch-panel on the laptop. Every time I adjust the volume, the icon appears, and it minimizes whichever game I'm in...

I disabled Sager's hotkey app, which disables the icon from showing up when adjusting via the function keys, but now the volume touch-panel doesn't work at all. It's a quick fix in the meantime I guess, but does anyone know how to simply stop the icon from appearing?

    Thanks :)

P.S. See attached pic for HWInfo's analysis of the 8180's monitor.

you can download different modded .inf drivers on the internet, not necessarily mine, but that's how installing new drivers on videocards not being detected in your system works. but that's what you need to install new drivers, get it from the net then, i make my own though.

edit: as i suspected same my x8100 uses, as well as my suspicion that 485m580m 6970m6990m will work, the question now is how good and how much headroom for overclocking, wait monday on myth to tell us.

the hotkey on my x8100 doesnt minimize my screens, try downloading a x8100 hotkey driver and see if it's more updated. this system is like the x8100, like the x8100 was to the m980nu, same touch panel same everything, though i hear keyboards been slightly updated, don't know by how much.

My little baby has arrived yesterday - so this is my very first posting written on my brand new P180HM :)

    My very first impressions:
    - Everything (Bios, OS, drivers) was fully setup by the reseller (Schenker), so the notebook was fully functional after unpacking.
    - I like the design. It cerainly looks more handsome than my old notebook. Especially the touch sensor instant keys are vey nice
    - The screen is very very good. I played some minutes of a HDTV movie and the result was incredible good. The screen reflects quite a lot , but this is not important for me personally as I don't plan to use the notebook outdoors.
    - It is very quiet. This is a nice surprise as I expected it to be very loud
    - The speed is incredible. I have certainly never seen a notebook as fast as this one when booting or executing 'normal' programs such as Firefox, Excel, etc. But I haven't tested any 'heavy' programs yet.
    - It has an ExpressCard Slot (this was not 100% certain since some resellers told that it doesn't have such a Slot)

Thus so far I am really very enthusiastic about the notebook :)

I am attaching a HWInfo's pic, which is slightly different than the config posted by PennyRaider. But the monitor is exactly the same as the one from PennyRaider's pic, thus I haven't included this part into my pic.

theres only 1 lcd panel n184h6-l02 from chei mei, however there are matte and glossy panels and different revisions, p180hm/x8100 all use n184h6-l02(i think glossy), i plan to upgrade my display to a matte with maybe a later revision, might be better who knows.

    Hey Guys,

Ok so we've finally completed testing on GPU options for the P180HM. Here is what we've found.

    It'll support in Single:

    560
    580
    6990
    FX2800
    FX3800
    Quadro 5010m

    It'll support in Dual:

    560
    6990

Why the 580m doesn't make it in SLI is because it sucked down too much voltage and generated too much heat, even with the bigger AC adapter. It was just too hot and too unstable.

Also if you deviate from the default 560x2 then you have to get a bigger AC adapter (Yes even for the single cards).

We've updated and begun offering the options accordingly. Also like the X7200 you can get this one with discreet bluetooth from us, so you can have a Killer 1103 + Bluetooth without having a USB adapter :)

Benchmark wise (I don't have fancy graphs etc), its all right there with the X7200 with the same video card setup. The mobile sandy bridges and the older 1366 desktops are right there in gaming benchmarks as neither are CPU bound lol. So just hit notebookcheck to see the bench's.

Finally if you get the highend (Like 6990m) in CFX, battery.. .LOL thats funny ;)

hey myth no 485m's being tested? you didnt have the cards i presume, and also your confirming that 580m's we're enabled in sli correct? the problem you ran into was HEAT? or did you get reset, what programs did you use to test

and theres a upgraded a/c adapter? what is it's wattage

assuming that a person can MAINTAIN the heatload from the 580's in sli, the a/c adapter can handle the extra load?

very important questions i'm hoping you can answer.

edit: it's very strange because my 485m's which consume more voltage didnt reach such high temps with the default x8100 heatsinks, which brings another question maybe temp control didnt get resolved like in the predecessors of the 18.4" series, they use to get hot too, various laptops same models.

We didn't have 485m's to test, yes both cards were enabled in SLI. The AC adapter can maintain the voltage, but the motherboard can't under high compute load (Crysis2 etc), and thats because the voltage regulators heat up too much on the board and on the GPU's causing WAY too much voltage to be shunted through. So yes if you can maintain the heatload it might work, but I'm not guaranteeing you wont' smoke your motherboard that way. So while there is less powerdraw than the 485m's its still a LOT of power coming down that the board just can't handle, and also remember the heatsinks are new designs that don't fit the old X8100, they have new part numbers etc. So they have gotten a bit closer to not overbuilding the heatsinks on this model.

i could have sworn the x7200 used a different connector to connect to the motherboard, i'm fairly certain i even double checked, unless the p180hm has a different connector

edit: why was it necessary to use a bigger power adapter with a single card? what kind of issues did you run into, with 580m single card?

Trust me its a X7200 PSU, I put it on there :p

Saw some voltage trips with the 580m, well amp over-draw. Those things heat up and start sucking down some wattage. It was close, but if we're going to sell it, it has to be more than close =)

i wasnt doubting you about the psu, but it seems that the psu has then changed between the np8180 and x8100

AC Power Adapter - iBuyPower Battalion 101 X7200, X7200-PS1 Laptop AC Power Adapter Charger

AC Power Adapter - iBuyPower Battalion 101 X8100 Laptop AC Power Adapter Charger

i knew it was different from previous 18.4" models, but i guess they change the layout now, interesting

what do you mean by seen some voltage trips with the 580m? it shut down due to insufficient voltage with the 300 watt adapter, 580m running alone?

i ask because you state that the 580m can run alone single card, or am i misinterpreting, did you hook up a multimeter and monitor the rails?

Sorry let me clarify, I was speaking it tripped out the 220W PSU that it ships with by default. Not the 300W PSU. That one is just fine =) For the 580m SLI the 300W PSU can handle that too, but the motherboard can't =)

And yes, the new P180HM is a LOT closer to a P170HM than it is the old X8100.

I'm sure everyone will chime in with what they love about this laptop so let me throw in the couple of things I haven't liked about it in the couple of weeks I have had it. Out of the box I had problems with getting touch keys to work some lit some did not after uninstalling and re installing the touch keys all are back lit and work now. Had to go as far as re installing the whole OS. The body of this thing is a finger print magnet! The other thing I haven't cared for is the volume is super low. I plan to use headphones most of the time but should be able to get better volume out of this machine in my opinion.

Hi everyone, lm living in a different country and l want to buy this notebook. My friend will buy it for me.l have some questions about the notebook.
First, l dont play a game frequently , sometimes l play Shogun 2, Crys, generaly l watch film, scientific documentary. But l wonder how much fps can l get for exp. Crys 2. l search everywhere but l cant found anything.
Secondly, why we cant choose HD 6990 crossfire or GTX 580M SLı. l read something which about the GTX 560m SLI is better than single HD 6990 and GTX 580M.ls it true? l dont now gtx 560's benchmarks, will satisfy me? ( Crys2 avg fps 35-40 ? ) Especially shogun 2's benchmars.l want to play it very high settings.
Finally l found this: MYTHLOGIC :: Configure Your System
There is hd 6990 crossfire and gtx 580 slı, would you inform me? Thaks...

Yea we offer it with 6990m with and without CFX, but only 580m in single because of voltage and heat requirements. I would say with the default setup 560m SLI is about the same as a single 6990 performance wise.

Its an EC update only not a BIOS update, it just fixes fan tables.

How it normally goes with these things, if you are happy where it is now (Ain't broke) no reason to mess with it (don't fix it :O) )

So its really up to you.

Those benchmarks were posted on a previous page in this thread, and detail the performance, but all in all, its about the same as a single 580 or 6990

I just ordered this laptop from Malibal, but they assured me that the 220w AC Adapter would suffice for the single 6990m config. However, after reading this thread I'm slightly concerned that this isn't the case. Can I have some clarification on that please? Also, I have a few questions:

    1. Will it be possible for me to upgrade to 6990m crossfire in a year or so if I buy the 300w AC Adapter and a second 6990m? If so, how easy will it be for me to do the upgrade myself?

    2. What's the worst thing that could happen when running too much through an AC Adapter? Do you blow the AC Adapter, the laptop itself, or both?

    3. Worst case scenario: I need to upgrade the AC Adapter. Will a new, compatible 300w Adapter be easy enough to source on its own? And will it be fairly easy to sell on the 220w one?

Can you elaborate on this? I don't understand why a single card needs a bigger AC adapter than 2.

For whats its worth im back to the problem I had out of the box with this notebook. Half of the back lit hotkeys are not lit and the back lit volume control is not lit and non functional. Its getting old.
