Mine has now been shipped.

 Happy for you!!
-

My status changed to "Ready to Ship".
-

Lucky you....I wanted to get mine by this weekend since I have 3 days off starting on Friday...
 Mine is still on processing.
Might be because I not only had the thermal cooling options but I asked for them to remove the branding on the laptop.
I live in the same state as GenTechPC so I figured shipping might be quicker though.

Found this article that reviews the new refresh of the razor 17" pro with 2080 super max-q.
Nice to see some comparison numbers.

 Still processing for me...
So they may have been the last of the current batch.
-
Mine says processing but when you click the view button says "Pending Shipment". So you and I might be in luck. Next two hours I'm gonna be eyeing my email for any updates.
-

Nope still says processing even after clicking view.
My credit card has still not even been charged.
-
Really? I paid for everything back when I first placed the order.
-

The first charge they do is just to check if the payment will go through.
It eventually gets removed and they will only process the charge right before shipping the item out.
-
I mean... I was charged the full price when I made the order. It's been a few weeks and it definitely went through...
-

Weird for me They charged me full price but later on I checked my credit card usage online and noticed the charge was no longer there.
I emailed gentechpc and Ken said
-
Well, if they do that, I won't be able to cover it.

 Edit: Order just shipped
-

I emailed GenTech and Ken said mine should be shipping today.
 Hopefully that is true.
Would be very lucky if I somehow had it delivered by this weekend.
-
Meaker@Sager Company RepresentativeThere is a lot of credit card fraud that goes on with laptops.
-

There is a lot of credit card fraud period
I am used to having temporary charges for purchases on my credit card before the actual purchase is fully processed.
Worst banking company I used was Wells Fargo which would allow digitally signed fraudulent checks to cash in my name.
I left Wells Fargo in 2008 and never looked back.
Ken emailed me again saying my order should be delivered in 2 days.
I hope that happens as it would arrive during my 3 day holiday break...been working so many 6 day weeks that the one day off doesn't even feel like a day off to do stuff.
Edit: order has been shipped.Lopezco and Sandwitches like this.

Mine reach Miami on Monday, then will be delivered to my country which I guess wil happen Thursday to Friday next week.
-
Congrats! I paid for next day air saver, so I should be getting mine tomorrow. Will let you all know when it gets here and I get some testing done. Lopezco likes this.

Anyone has connected an egpu to this laptop?
Would be capable through the Thunderbolt port?
-
yrekabakery Notebook VirtuosoBut why? Unless you’re playing at 4K (or maybe some other low framerate setting like 1440p ultra), the performance of any TB3 eGPU will be bottlenecked by the interface and lag significantly behind the laptop’s own 2070 Super.Lopezco likes this.

It is for Leela Chess Zero (AI chess program) which takes advantage of the tensor cores.yrekabakery likes this.

I plan on buying from gentechPC without the OS installed. anyone who has got theirs from gentechpc did it come with a disc with the drivers for the machine? i looked on sagers website for drivers but was not able to find the ones for this exact model but i did for the 15 inch model.
-
Just got off the phone with a nice gentleman at Gentech. Maybe Ken but I'm not sure. Anyway, they're looking at shipping mine out next week and since I live so close it'll probably only take a day to arrive. I did order with a repaste, thermal pads and the option to remove the sager logo and those things take time, especially with other orders in front of me. Either way, cool!Lopezco likes this.
-

The laptop doesn't have an optical drive, so it certainly wouldn't come with a disc containing anything.
Discs are basically a dead medium.

I ordered without the OS, but I fully expect most, if not all drivers to automatically be handled by Windows. The only thing I expect to need to separately install would be the software for the per-key RGB lighting, and potentially software for the fingerprint reader.Last edited: Jul 2, 2020

Got mine and am doing a few benchmarks before I try messing with any undervolting.

 Everything is in Performance Mode:

 Cinebench20: 3706
 Timespy: 8503
 Firestrike: 18708

Gonna go mess with undervolting a bit and see how that goes.Last edited: Jul 2, 2020misterman73 likes this.

Meaker@Sager Company RepresentativeThe best backup would be a USB stick with an image of the stock install.

Mine came with no optical drive but had a dvd with all drivers on it....thankfully I have a external usb blueray drive, worked fine and doesn't require drivers to operate (as long as no blueray encryption on the disc).
It worked out fine because it gives you the proper order to install all the drivers (which is important).
I'll hook it up later and post the correct order of install for ya's.misterman73 likes this.
-
Mine came with a driver disk as well.

With a -100 undervolt I hit the following:

 Cinebench20: 3961
 Timespy: 8636
Firestrike: 19373Lopezco and misterman73 like this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't these some pretty kick ass numbers for the build? Like does that compare well to say a 2080?
-
I have no idea, I've never done this kind of thing before... But I think they're good for a laptop. I tried to run the same tests Lzealot did, so we'd have a bit more of an idea of the range of the machines. Last edited: Jul 2, 2020Lopezco likes this.

This is the correct driver install order according to Clevo and is laid out like this on my driver disc.
Mine is a Clevo not a Sager....but since Clevo makes them...

 1 - Chipset
 2- Serial IO
 3 - Intel VGA
 4 - Nvidia VGA
 5 - Nvidia apps
 6 - LAN
 7 - CardReader
 8 - MEI driver
 9 - HID filter driver
 10 - Control center driver
 11 - ANX driver
 12 - Audio driver

BTW, new Nvidia drivers (451.48) are out with newer directX components and current control center is version 3 rev 2.16
Strongly suggest installing Win10 LTSC instead of pro (slow) or home (lame).

And that's it for tonight ladies and gents, thank you for playing, and stay safe out there.....remember as always there is a 2 drink minimum so belly up to the bar and don't be shy.
Remember to always check your underwear BEFORE putting them on.Lopezco likes this.

Someone posted their 15.6" version bench for Firestrike and it's above stock 2080.

 Oh yeah.

I'm gonna put it through some proper gameplay tests tomorrow with Ark, Witcher 3, and few others. Just need them all to finish installing.

 Score

The 2070 115w beats the 2080 max q's pretty well. The new super version is not known yet. It'll probably slightly faster. The way they power limit these cards has a big impact on performance. Since it limits how high they can go on the volt/freq curve. With a little tweaking you can easily score above 20k on fire strike or above 9000 on time spy.

I'm very happy with this laptop. Performance is good. There is definitely room to refine it's behavior. Right now it's allowed to bounce off current limiters to set it's performance limits. It's kind a crude way of doing it. CPU temps could be a bit lower and the GPU clock revs up and down constantly due to the power limiting. The fans have great static pressure and move all the air the heatsink can use. They just do it a bit on the loud side. When you think of how much is crammed into a tiny package though it is impressive.

Has anyone who received their laptops noticed fan or chassis whine? Some people brought it up as an issue initially.
-
 Niiiiiice.

As for the whine... I think I hear it, but it doesn't bother me. I never even would have noticed at as anything different from a normal fan if it hadn't been pointed out.

And I just spent 8 hours on high specs Ark on this thing and it never went above 80C. (I have LM on the CPU and the Fujipoly Thermal pads, so I think that might be making a difference on the heat.)
-

Here's with a "cooling pad". I....took a oscillating tower fan, laid it flat, and set the laptop on top of it

Gentechpc offers free Liquid Metal/Thermal repasting and Free Fujipoly Thermal Pads with the order. It's part of why I ordered it from them.Lopezco likes this.
