Will do as soon as I can figure out how to remove the keyboard. The little push hole next to the cpu from the dm3 appears to be there but it is covered up in the TM1 by left portion of the cpu heatsink
-
-
I removed the middle fan and pushed the keyboard from there, but it seems you can push it directly without removing the fan.
-
Upon close examination of the keyboard I noticed points that look like they were meant to be lifted on. Managed to get it off using one of them.

Oh cool. Single GPU, yet still 2 fans on that side. Interesting.
-
What would cause random lock ups that only last a second or two?
-
Depends. You mean like random freezes? When does it happen?
First, start off with a restart. Beyond that, make sure your drivers are up to date, including graphics drivers. I like going into device manager and manually updating core component drivers there.
I mean, random freezes can happen for a whole host of reasons honestly.SirSaltsAlot and GameServ like this. -
I think I fixed it by updating the firmware on my 960 Evo. Hasn't happened since. Fingers crossed.
-
Apparently that didn't work. I've noticed that it only hangs up when I'm using the touch pad. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and it still hangs up.
-
Nice Rig, I'm jealous, any issues with the Corsair Ram?

Are any resellers carrying the P870TM CPU heatsinks yet? @Meaker@Sager @Eurocom Support @EurocomTechspert

Haven't noticed anything yet.

Ran AIDA64 for a bit with the fans on auto then I set the fans to max to experience the jet engine and noticed a 10C drop in temps. Barely saw temps go over 80C which is nice. Also ran the Heaven benchmark at max settings.
CPU is at stock setting with a 100mV undervolt. The GPU is clocked at 2040mhz and slightly undervolted using MSI afterburner.Attached Files:

It looks like I will be acquiring one of these for Christmas.
Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the service manual? I've looked online, but haven't found it. -
Still no word on a prema BIOS yet? my sense of time sucks from when I previously asked about it LOL
-
The "service manual" for this thing is the most generic piece of crap I've ever gotten with ANY machine. Let alone one as high end as this. You could quite literally pick up a manual from any laptop and it will have as much useful information in it as the one that comes with this machine.

So i was looking at getting a Prime-X P870TM-G from metabox in australia, These are pretty damned expensive so i can't afford to buy drives with it and have to use my own, What's everyones experiences, Do they thermal throttle, Has anyone else dealt with metabox before, Can you negociate/haggle with them, at just a tad over 10% of my yearly wage i want to get as much for my money as possible
Whats everyones experience with 1070 sli, Are there any horrible conflicts or serious flaws with these machines, Does anyone have pictures of the internal hardware for the Coffee-lake version of this, Rather than the 7700k,
Idle temps for these? Whats their overclockability like,\ Cpu and gpu's, Does everyone max everything out with 1070 sli and the 120hz 1440p screen, I can't afford dual 1080s, Only dual 1070s
Is there enough room in the m.2 slots for an m.2 ssd heatsink (Many M.2's thermally throttle) Does the coffee lake version still have dual gigabit like the 7700k version did, Have they released an updated power supply so its a single unit or will i get dual psu's like the last revision did?
Will i eventually when i can afford the drives be able to run 1 m.2 for boot, 2 m.2 for storage, And then 2x 2.5inch for storage, Where does the thunderbolt adapter get it's pcie lanes from if both gpu's are using the cpu's lanes, And the m.2's are using all 12 of the southbridge/pch/chipset lanes. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can pad the M.2 to the keyboard if you don't mind it being a bit warmer.
-
What thermal pads would you recommend using for that?
-
By that you mean using thermal pads on the M2 ssd right? Cause I didn't know you could do that. HID shipped me 3 extra thermal pads that i'll likely use for the new M2 SSD I got on the way.
-
getting a new laptop must get optane! look at this cold boot speed directly from bios!
if a desktop mobo with good bios can skip most part can get similar performance. @Mr. Fox @tilleroftheearth @Papusan

Putting heatsinks onto NVME SSDs in this machine will probably just cook the drive since you would be holding heat on the drive. There doesnt seem to enough airflow to take the heat away from a heatsink. Let alone enough height for one. As long as you buy good NVME SSDs throttling wont be a problem. Buying sh|tty NVMEs might.Last edited: Dec 14, 2017 -
Optane is pretty pointless right now. The biggest drive you can get is a 280gb and its RIDICULOUSLY priced. NVME SSDs will do the exact same thing as that video.
-
480GB but not intended for laptops. Pointless? Depends on your use.
-
The 480's only come in card form. We use LOTS of them where I work. And I dont believe many people are serving giant databases out of their laptops. Which is what these things are meant for.
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167440 -
P870 has no NVMe thermal issues. No need for any heat sinks on them. The area where they are mounted gets excellent air circulation and very little heat.
I know some people get really excited about fast boot times from power on to desktop. I've never found that to matter. As long as the boot time isn't messed up and taking a ridiculously abnormal amount of time, it really makes no difference to me whatsoever. I only care about how fast it is after the machine is done loading Windows. Fast boot time doesn't offer any value to me, so I will not spend any money on silly gadgets and gimmicks like Optane. That said, it was really fast. I wonder how well that same machine runs Cinebench and wPrime?Last edited: Dec 14, 2017 -
Pretty much what I said too. I have 2 Samsung 960 Pros in a RAID 0 in mine and I have no throttling issues. Even when I move large files from my Evos to the Pros for extended periods of time.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
I actually put a heat sink on the 960 Pro under the keyboard just for giggles and the temps were within 1-2°C of the same without it. So, it did not cook it or increase the temps, but it was a total waste of time. Placing a thick thermal pad between the NVMe and motherboard (a popular idea) was also tested and pretty much the same waste of time and thermal pad.
This just goes to show how "brilliant" the hardware engineers are that do the thermal design on the world of turdbooks we live in. There are so many laptops the cook their flash drives, and it's all because of people that suck at their jobs and don't know how to design things correctly. Garbage in/garbage out. Fortunately, P870 owners are not victims of their incompetence. -
My 950 Pro in:
P870DM3: Max Temp observed: 46C
Alienware 13 R2: Max Temp observed: 93C
..Clevo got the thermals right, didn't even have any heatsinks, just standard thermal pads -
The 960s have that little strip of copper on the backs of the drive that Samsung says increases to time before throttle by 30% over previous models. It seems to work. I've been quite impressed.
Mr. Fox likes this. -
It is mostly the laptop. Yes, the 960 Pro is an excellent product, but it overheats severely, just like all the others do, when you put it in a poorly designed piece of garbage laptop. Other brands and models of SATA and NVMe M.2 SSDs also run nice and cool in the P870. It's because it is a P870 that they do. In contrast, the P7XX, no SSD is safe. It's gonna fry, just like an Alienware.Papusan likes this.

@Mr. Fox, You were the go to person back in the alienware days and you have the slightly dated version of this laptop so i figure i'd ask you, I had to RMA/warranty/repair my last Clevo quite a few times due to things going awry, (Left hinge, Then Right hinge, then the 970m shat itself, Then the 3.0 USB died, and now the Gig-E is having issues yet my old M17x R3 never had a drama and i had a fricken 6990m) I can't order from HIDEvolution and have to use metabox if i want a local warranty, not to mention its vastly more expensive due to australia's ****ty dollar value (Plus rediculous cost of living) and as a min wage worker i don't get to buy new things very often, Hell i have to split half on the credit card (Don't worry i always pay them off long before i buy anything again it just takes forever) and half in direct cash just to afford the Prime-X P870TM-G with the following specs
2560x1440/120hz display
dual 1070s with stock cooling, There is no option for any other cooling (Or 1x 1080)
8700k
8GB ddr4 2400mhz (to be later upgraded, Also only single channel)
No drives (Using my own)
No copy of windows (gotta use my own license)
And somewhere/somehow find a 3x3 NGFF/m.2 whatever the new damn standard is Wireless AC card provided this machine has 3 internal antenna's already so i can replace the cheapest option with something worth while.
As an Australian, that alone costs 4.5k with the extended warranty, and HIDevolution goes significantly higher then that cost wise.
So anyway my question Mr fox is, Am i going to be dissapointed with this clevo like i was with the last one in comparison to my R3 wich still lives to this day and doesn't care, this costs 10% of my yearly income it's considered a very big ticket spend for me so i want it to be worth it especially build quality wise
also @ everyone else, There is no metabox forum i can find, And all the top tier M.2 NVME ssd's throttle, Or atleast all the samsungs do, hence why i asked if there was room for a heatsink because i plan to buy them and put them in here after i pay off the laptop, but not before adding more ram, yes i know i will fully be ram limited to begin with.
-
It is difficult for me to know if you will be pleased with it. The P870 is very well built overall and it is the only model of laptop I would consider purchasing for myself. So, if you need a notebook it is the only model in the world I recommend. It is better than any Alienware notebook I have owned (and I've had quite a few). I am at the point now that I do not want any notebook at all, regardless of specs, if it does not have a @Prema BIOS. I have had a gut full of proprietary control freak notebook crippling bull crap that all of the OEMs/ODMs are guilty of. But, I understand what you explained in your post.
If you do not have a true need for a powerful notebook, I would recommend just continuing to use the old reliable Alienware M17xR3 for a portable means of doing things until it dies and use the money to build a desktop instead. You will get a whole lot more bang for the buck, and won't have to deal with any proprietary nonsense with respect to repairs or upgrades.Papusan likes this. -
Just talk to metabox.

The problem is i go to way too many Lans to take a desktop ive been selling off parts to try and offset the cost of this, I live regional so being able to throw a laptop in the bag and go is far easier than, "ok lets try and lug a 60kg watercooled beast, And peripherals into the car".Mr. Fox likes this.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ed-on-the-website.802818/page-2#post-10644247
The machine doesnt have 3 antennas. Nor do you need 3 since this card uses 2x2 160mhz wide spectrum. Which is the latest tech there is.
Mine should be here Monday. -
Metabox will flash prema's bios once it is available.

480GB comes in U.2 not just AIC so you're missing some info. nevertheless, optane is not useless, just like people claimed SSD will be useless over HDD when it first came out. the workload i have intended for my optane drive as OS will destroy any workload i throw at samsung 960 pro in raid 0. though I do have plans to get two 980 pros in raid 0 when they come out, that will be my torrent/storage/semi work partition, while optane remains being OS and primary work partition.
-
i musta missed the u.2 connector on the p870tm... do enlighten a technologically deficient chap like my slef...
did i just find the guy that runs MASSIVE databases locally??
im pulling up chair a with a pitbull chewed pillow right meow.... -
mod makes everything work. also u benefit from the 4k random as it is 5-6x the amount u'll get from a 960pro raid0 array. also, when i meant u.2, i meant the 480gb also comes with u.2 in response to your other comment saying largest is 280gb, im simply answering your other question letting you know that bigger capacity is available.

Yes I do, and you don't want it, and I don't know where to get it. I suggest hunting for the Chi Mei 1080/120 TN panel. It's pretty much better in every way.

awesome man! let me know if you want me to help you tweak Windows 10 and welcome to the HIDevolution Gaming Team
These are the Phoenix Tweaks:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
