    Hey everyone,

I have a small problem regarding my X8100.
Recently i found out that Windows 7 x64 detects my 4GB DDR3 but it says that only 2,61GB is available.
I did a bit of reseach on this issue and it seems that it can be solved by tuning on a BIOS feature called 'Memory remapping'.
However, it seems that i don't have this option in the BIOS. Is there another way to make Windows use my full 4GB of memory again?

    Thanks in advance!

You probably thought of this but did you update the BIOS to the latest version?

I did think about it. However flashing the BIOS of this machine scares me a little. I'm used to the easy Asus way of flashing your BIOS :p .
After reading the Clevo BIOS Thread on how to properly flash the BIOS of this machine it seems that this is quite a bit harder.

If it helps I flashed my laptop and bricked it (probably from flashing off my hdd and not the flash drive). I returned it to ASUS straight away and told them it just died and they fixed it for me.

I was told after, a bad BIOS flash was covered by warranty.

I don't know if this is what your worried about but maybe Clevo cover bad BIOS flashes aswell?

Goodluck anyways and hopefully someone with your laptop can tell you if they are having the same issue or not and if they have a different BIOS version etc.

Edit:btw it says 5780 in your sig :)

I don't think they cover bad flashes... Certainly not in my case, the X8100 i own has been rebranded by a brand called XXODD.
However, the company behind XXODD went bankrupt last month so XXODD disappeared as well.
Although they contacted their customers that their warranty still goes on, i wouldn't take the risk of bricking my unit over a bad flash...
And thanks for correcting my sig :D

    No probs :)

A bit of a longshot but what would happen if you installed Win 7 32bit. I installed that on my lappy for compatability and it shows up with 3.25GBs IIRC which is a bit better than 2.86

I'll check again when I get back home.

Hi again fellow Sager/Clevo/Kobalt owners :)

Im having a strange issue with my machine. SLI 285m cards.

After I installed the newest Nvidia drivers 260.99 ( wich nvidia recomends, and ppl here told me to grab ) .

It freezes just out of the blue. Browsing webpages, playing games etc. Just locks up. Only solution is power off, then power back on..

Anyone else having issues with this ? Is it my BIOS ? Havent checked out BIOS part yet. Since no BIOS files on Clevos sites. .. And abit scared of BIOS updating. Have done some b4. But a long time ago..

I dont get an event log.

When i turn of pc and then back on again. I only get the standard question to enter in safe mode or normal. I just press normal..

Its very confusing, and I dont wanna roll back to May 2010 drivers from Clevo..

How does this laptop fare compared to the 8760-S1 (470M) and the 7280 (460M SLI)? Torn between those three. I really like the way X8100 looks, but I'm a bit hesitant after hearing about the CrossFire issues.

Also, what version of CCC is best to use with the 5870M CrossFire?

Sorry if this was asked before but I couldn't go through 92 pages :p
Is the Veda x8100 and Sager NP8120 exactly the same things, just named different because of different resellers? Malibal is the only reseller I looked at that didn't call it a Sager. I do understand that both are based off the Clevo x8100

What is the difference in how each reseller builds them?

I fell for the X8100's looks as well but I had it for about a week before I gave it back. The crossfire issues made games unplayable. It was like the screen was vomiting or something. To be fair though, not everyone experiences the effects and the machine is VERY powerful.

I would steer clear of it unless you really want an 18.4 inch. screen.

I'm not sure whether to buy now or wait for a different config (460/70 SLI) option. BTW, does anyone know if 10.11 CCC fixes the stuttering problems at all?

What happens when you disable the crossfire? Do you get stable performance or is it still unstable?

It is stable with crossfire disabled but performance took about a 40% hit across the board. I also did not pay 3,600 bones to use one card.

Way I see it, this is the only laptop with good looks plus power inside it. All the other laptops are either as expensive with lower specs or have issues like the Alienware m17.

Battery charging issue is fixed already. Ssd is an intel pm55/hm55 problem that spans across many brands including clevo. Like I said, M17x is as good as it gets, xfire is flawless.

Just as a small update, as yes, I dissapeared for a few weeks. My laptop went back in to get some heat issues checked out, as it was getting overtly hot (mid-90s when load tested), it's come back today fixed with a checkover of the heatsink [might have been replaced] and a fresh application of paste; and is now sitting pretty at about 80-81 under load. MUCH nicer.

Also, like I mentioned previously, I was having some graphical issues.

I had Kobalt swap out the crossfire cable whilst it was in with them (which is actually what caused part of the delay in the machine returning to me; as there was a delay in the cables coming in) and my machine now *touch wood* seems clear of video issues.

For the first time since having the 5870m crossfire solution, I've been able to run the SF4 benchmark, without seeing any rolling bars of corruption, which had previously persisted through different drivers and BIOS, nor did I see any immediate screen shaking from Recettear which previously sometimes shook like someone with pneumonia hehe (I was hospitalised with it this year so trust me on that lol)

I'd advise anyone else who was having the shaking screen, or more occasional rolling bars of corruption to get thier crossfire cable swapped out.

As it stands, unless anything else changes, my machine is now sitting pretty as what you could consider 'working flawlessly'. :D
As I saw in my days with the M17, laptop crossfire cables appear rather flimsy and unprotected, so it wouldnt surprise me if slightly damaged/flawed or interference-susceptible crossfire cables have been causing all the wierd graphical issues some users have experienced (beyond occasional duff cards as per usual practice!)

It's been a wait, but I've now got a machine roughly equivalent to the M17xR2, but at roughly a cost to me of £1000 (~$1500) less. Fingers crossed I'll have no more bouts of 'luck'.

Congrats, must have been hard without that beast! Question though. The Crossfire cable does not explane why the screen vomiting went away when using an external monitor. You sure Sager did not change your screen or anything like that?

Yep, it was a long ol few weeks thats for sure, however its returned to me in time for the steam sales :D

My machine didn't go into Sager, it went to Kobalt, as an EU company they buy in the chassis themselves, rather than going through Sager.

With me, I never got much chance to use it with an external monitor so I can't say whether that would have solved it for me; but either way, the machine is no longer exhibiting the issues it did, and as far as Im aware its just the cable switched. Simply put however it could be to do with how the data is communicated or any restrictions imposed by the external screen. My issues weren't as severe as some users suggesting my old cable probably mostly worked, but wasn't 100%.
In my case issues also seemed to dissapear when I disabled Crossfire, so again that would point to the cable, as the issues when crossfire was enabled were not common crossfire faults with the games in question and did suggest a more central underlying cause.

I'm doubting the chassis has been switched as its still got the shiny wear on the space bar I left on it [and I believe the screens generally come with the chassis on this model], although obviously theres the possibility my keyboard got put into another machine, but that'd be a lot of effort not to admit an issue on the old chassis, especially as I've generally had fairly frank discussions on issues with Kobalt, this isn't my first X8100 chassis afterall! :)
What can I say, I don't want to jinx it, Im just glad I can *fingers crossed* put the issues behind me once and for all :)

The 8100 is the Clevo X8100, while the 8120 is the Sager NP8120. They are literally the exact same model, right down to the specs.

Anywho, is it safe to consider buying one of these now that appears the CFX issue is clearing up or just wait for a refresh?

GTX 460M SLi has better performance at the same price point as Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire anyway. But by now it would make more sense to just wait for GTX 560M/570M/580M or 6870M/6970M.

Hello, I have X8100 and I would like to change its LCD screen. That is the worst screen I have ever seen.

Earlier in the thread someone suggested using N184H6-Lxx instead of the original N184H4-L04 (which I also have) but is it as straight forward as it sounds? are all connections, cables etc. exactly the same, having in mind that H6 is LED ?
Also, are there any other options available, like using different manufacturer, not Chi-Mei?

btw. I have ACER 8935 too, and its screen is 100 times better than that one... I even wonder if i can swap the displays....

Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion/experience.

I was using ThrottleStop yesterday t0 OC my 940xm chip. It was going great, I had run a stability test for 20 mins to see if it would hold and it did. About an hour later I decided to restart my X8100. I forgot that I was watching a movie wirelessly on my tv from my laptop. The movie froze on my tv and as my laptop started to power up I heard 2 beeps and nothing. Nothing came up on my screen. I tried rebooting and I get the same, 2 beeps and nothing. I am thinking my cpu died. While I was running the Furmark stability test my cpu heated up to 62 degrees celcius. Anyone have any ideas? Dead cpu?

So I just learned that my cpu is most likely ok. The settings I was using on ThrottleStop were not punishing my cpu. I will be calling "Prostar Computers" in the morning to ask them what 2 beeps mean.

So I can restart my computer if I reboot 4 or 5 times. I put the ThrottleStop changes I made pretty much back the way they were before. I wonder if this an unrelated problem because I didn't make any changes that would cause damage to the cpu or video cards. I dont know what is causing the restart problems. I wonder if it's a bios issue. I will call the place where I bought my Clevo and see what they think.

Did you try to update the BIOS? Sometimes it can brick your laptop so do it at your own risk. I'd recommend putting the BIOS update on a flash drive and update it from there, never had issues doing it that way.

Though your BIOS might be up-to-date.

Also try resetting to defaults in BIOS. If throttlestop modifies the BIOS, resetting to default might help.

I guess with HD 6970M crossfire, which would be around March. The X8100 with SB and HD 6970M crossfire would be my first choice actually. Although GTX 485M SLi is sick, it's just too expensive, and the X8100 will probably not get support for it anyway.

Can I get a little help from you guys?

I just got my 8100 and after the first couple of hours, am having some big problems.

I installed Windows 7 and was dicking around for a while on it then decided to install the drivers from the CD. They installed easy but when I went to reboot, my computer, the lights came on, the monitor did not, and it just did nothing after that for several minutes.

I turned off from the button, and restarted. The computer booted up, the screen came on, and then nothing.

Now, after trying to restart several more times, I'm back to what happened the first time. Lights come on, no screen, just black, and nothing. I can't boot in to safe mode, I can't reinstall Windows 7 or Ubuntu, nothing.

What in the hell is going on and is there anything I can do about it without having to send it back?

Nope, but judging by the build revision, its based around the 10.12 hotfix releases, as 10.12 was 8.801. (or its a typo and 810 is actually 801).
I'd give it a shot, but I get appalling download rates from Sager.

    Edit:
Yep, definately seems based off one of the beta/hotfix releases. Im trialing out some laptop modded 11.1a's right now and they're 8.82

    Hey all, first time poster,

Ive been reading these posts and forums for awhile now, and they have given me some brilliant advice to do with overclocking.

But Ive come up with a problem, this is why Ive registered and posting.

My system is a Sager NP8120/Clevo X8100, bought it about a year ago, so tech wise is still great but not jaw dropping hot, ha

Stats: GTX 285m SLI, i7 920xm and so on and so on

I have managed to overclock my GPU's thanks to the advice on these forums, and all is stable, stock score 600/1000/1500 and ive got it to 665/1115/1680 in SLI, Ive benchmarked through windows index and played a few games and no driver failure.

But my problem is that Ive noticed that my FPS and dropped, so it got me thinking that my GPU has a power problem, i.e. voltage.

Ive seen the pic's that people have posted, and notice my BIOS version is different, so i started googling i cant find how or where to update my BIOS.

My BIOS version is 62.92.AE.00.OC, now is that the latest version?

    My Driver version is 260.99

And how do i increase the voltage? Ive tried a few programs like Nvidia Inspector and Niptor (i think its called that), but the voltage is blanked out.

I used Nvidia Tools to overclock.

I hope somebody can help me out

Hi, yes - I believe it will look essentially the same.

I hope they stay true with the competitive pricing as well. I've been eyeing this refresh for a while now.

no surprise here but i would have liked for them to do away with whole glossy thing, its looks good when there's no finger prints on it (which lasts for about 5 secs after you take it out of the box.). ofcourse you can always use a cloth to wipe them off but they get on the system so easily...

me too, if the price stays similar to what it is now, then it will be a great top of the line gaming laptop WITH a low price...
