Compared to all the options on the g73, it just doesn't hold a candle really.

4x equates to four bins: 133MHz x 4.

HWiNFO32's multiplier monitor is bugged. It's giving you false results.

run 06 cpu test or vantage cpu test and lets see whats up.

By any chance can you take a screen shot of cpu-z at 2x OC and 4x OC? Thanks!

I have that OC bios but have no plans to put it back on because my new 285M is not fully recognized in it. The latest bios does not have the 4x feature in it. I need to get one that can work with 285m and the 5870, anyone know of one? However, the eleet tool works well in mine to OC.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
That's disappointing. So they had it but then removed the option.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

At this time that's it. Mine would run cool with no BSOD or any negative things happenning with the 4x OC bios. I wonder if the x8100 will keep that feature as new hardware comes out that needs a bios refresh.

So your fastest 1 core speed at 4x is 3.732Ghz and if you use evga eleet to lock all your cores at a 24 multi you could run all four cores at 3.732Ghz stable? This of course assumes a CPU load to push all four cores.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
+rep, thanks.

Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
One core would many times go over 3.73 according to a couple of gages I have used, even past 4ghz (at least that's what was reported). At 24 all cores can be locked at that all day with no problems with eleet and is stable. Granted I have not done hours at a time intense loading but for a 1/2 hour at a time I have really pushed it, with temps and such very good.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
That would indicated a very high threshold for systems TDP and TDC settings. Just running 3DMark06 at those settings would be interesting. Did you ever try it?
Here is mine at 3.5Ghz all four cores. Take a look at the 102W number.
![[IMG]](images/storyImages/3dmark0616729.th.jpg)
At 3.7Ghz all four cores under load you must have hit at least 110W! IF you ever get a chance to test it again please do so.
Edit: BTW, my system as a whole hit 176W but I did remove my second hard disk, some memory and my optical drive otherwise my 180W PSU wouldn't have been able to keep up.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

So I guess I don't need to upload a pic of my BIOS as Pradege already did that, eh?
-
Correct. I wanted to see if it was any different.

OK folks, I'm shopping for my 1st ever laptop and have got my eye on this one. I make my own desktops, OC and watercool them so am not a noob, but I am wondering what is going on with these new 360m cards. If they have 96 cores and produce only 413 GFLOPs, compared to the 285m that has 128 cores and produces 576 GFLOPs, how is just dropping to build from 55 to 40 nm going to help anything but power requierments? I'm getting this data from the NVIDIA site and from wikipedia. NVIDIA is classifying the 285m as 'enthusiast 60x' and the 360m as only 'high performance 40x'. Link
I want to roll with SLI but it appears the 285m is the better card, am I waiting for the 360m for another reason?!
Also, I hear the NP9280 is going morph into SLI and allow the 'i9' 980SX 6 core chip in the BIOS revision, this would be a game changer for me and would go with that instead- any firm word on this? -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
285M is the better card - reason being that the 360M is not the replacement for the 285M hence the reason for the empty box in the 300M Enthusiast space! -

Thanks for the side by side Neil, the screens look virtually identical, with perhaps a slightly greater range on the X8100, but that could just be the picture

Hi Alex, should have made it clearer in the previous post that they are basically identical - only difference will be in the lighting in the room and of course the fact that you can just make out my reflection in the middle! I almost forgot which was which when I edited the picture!

Well just dont forget to send them to the wrong people then haha

He he, HDMI IN port and the smaller 34 Expresscard on the X8100 are easy tells - apart from that identical from the outside.
-
Is the LCD LED back lit or CCFL? No where on any site specifies any way...
Also, in which situation would you recommend this machine over the 17" w/ desktop i7?
Im about to pull the trigger today on one of these builds... let me know. Thanks -

Thanks for the info. Now I just dont know If I should do 15" 17" or 18".
Sigh too many decisions -
Are you going to take the computer anywhere?
If so, don't bother with the 8100. That thing is huge and heavy. lol -
There's no way babyhemi's system could sustain a 24x multi on all cores because his PSU would shut down. -
I am in the US Military and I will be taking it places. But not often, and when I do, it will be going from desk to desk.
-
It might be able to if it wasn't stressed and actually using all four cores at max. That's why I would have liked to see some of the tests I ran on the G73 done to the W870CU.
-
Well, I don't know.
What other factors are important to you? Dual GPU's? etc...
I wouldn't buy the X8100 but a lot of people would. 17" is the sweetspot ESPECIALLY since the W870 is only 8.3 lbs. -
Dual GPUs is a strong point but not a must. Im taking everything into consideration.
-
Well, good luck. Choosing is always a tough decision.
I don't stress about it anymore because I somehow don't keep a system longer than a month
-
Before I spend the 4400$ on my purchase... can someone take some pics for me? I have seen them online, but would like to see some of your custom setups, on the desk, next to other comptuers/monitors etc.
Thanks
Edit: Also, do these machines have the DPC Latency issue associated with the Nvidia Drivers? Thx -
Well I broke down and ordered one of these bad boyz from Sager directly. Got a decent deal by ordering over the phone and speaking directly with sales. He knew the system well and had good suggestions, including going over my intended uses before recommending the 8120.
Decided to go with:
820QM
8 GB RAM
160 GB SSD Boot
500 GB 7200 rpm Storage
BluRay reader
3 yr warranty and a Backpack.
Under $4100 even with shipping and my company pick up half the cost! -

What would you like to know? It's beautiful...my uncle is already wanting one after seeing mine so Donald may have another customer in short order.
The bag is pretty nice. But I'm really glad I got that 18" Case Logic sleeve, cause it is a tight fit.
I've yet to try out the HDMI in and all of that...taking my time really.
I believe you already got a picture of the bios from the other dude...any other pictures I can provide you guys with? -
Has there been a pic of the bottom with any compartment door removed posted yet?
-

Don't think so...I"ll do that now then.

It's saying the other two pics are too large to upload here...so..

VSO image resizer is free and works great.
Use it to cut the res (and size) of your images

Yeah dude I know...just haven't loaded ANYTHING on my laptop...either one (cause they're both so brand new). But I am familiar with VSO...used it many times before on my old laptop.
Just trying to hurry up and post them. -
Just trying to help, "dude"....
