I recently purchased a new Sager from XOTIC PC. I originally send a message to Sager inquiring about the GPU. They told me that this was a full desktop chip in the laptop. I couldn't find any indication of it being Max-Q from other resellers either.
So today I ran the Unigine Superposition benchmark because this card was underperforming in gaming from what I've seen on YouTube. It lists it as a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Mobile / Max-Q 8 GB (TU104M)
Is this false information? From what I can tell this laptop chip is 25% slower than desktop cards. Any way I can confirm it's Max-Q? If so, then I'm going to want a full refund.

Run hwinfo and a 3dmark test.
The 2070 super mobile edition (max-p) is 115w
The max q will be 80-90w
A desktop 2070 is between 200 to 230w
Also look at you power brick. If it was a full it would have to be roughly a 300w power supply.
You probably have the 2070 super (max-p)
115w. That IS a full desktop 2070 down clocked for power and thermals for laptop use.

It's 115w, but sales from Sager told me "it is a regular full power RTX 2070 Super GPU." False advertising since it's not full power?
-
115w is full power for a laptop, its a full GTX 2070 chip, as its not cut down like earlier mobile chips 780m/980m etc
You will need to tune (undervolt) to optimize performance to push the highest clock for the lowest power needed.
"Full power" has different definitions based on what platform / vendor your buying from. -
Nope. You got a FULL power 2070 Super for a laptop.
-
This isn't really Sagers fault. It's more nvidia's. There's so many different versions of the same cards depending on configuration. The 2070 super you have runs within a few frames of a 2080 maxq. The 2080 max q would just give you better thermals and lower fans since it runs at 90-95w compared to the 2070. Of course you pay more for it.
Unless your driving external 1440p or higher displays what use do you have for the desktop version card anyway?

It's the fastest version you'll get in a notebook.

That link will show you the different cards available for the 2080 in laptops. As you can see, none of them are rated at full desktop power. It should give you an idea what to expect. Sadly, I can't find one for all the different configures for the 2070 super. Pretty much what I said before. Full 2070 super is 115W with the max-q between 80w-90w.
If you need a beefier gpu. The dell alienware 51M v2 and the Eurocom sky x9c might be what you want. Neither of them will give you full desktop class gpus though. They're still 150w 2080s. You could get two of them with a nice 780w power brick complete with fans for the eurocom
Just don't look too close at the prices

I understand that. Nvidia is hoping to sell boggled down cards without anybody noticing. A 25% speed increase from a desktop GPU can make a difference between 50 FPS and 60 FPS at 4K.
-
It's not really boggled down. They've been tuned for best performance w high power efficiency. The price of these laptop versions is def less than a full 2080 super. That's the level you need to play 4k at 60fps and the ti would be the only card able to do it at high settings. 4k gaming at 144fps is not feasible on a desktop yet. I'm using a 2080 super @ 1440p. My fps is roughly in the 60-70fps range.

Even worse, 780M wasn’t even based on the same GK110 chip as the desktop 780. It was a fully enabled GK104 like the desktop 680/770.Reciever likes this. -
i do agree with you on that. It would be nice if they listed the wattage for what gpu they have installed in the laptop. I understand it is not really definitive to actual performance. A poorly cooled 2070 super at 115w can perform worse than a properly cooled 90w max-q version. That's why checking reviews for laptops and their benchmarks are so important. I took a leap of faith when I ordered my 2070 super laptop since there were no laptop reviews on it yet. I have no complaints. I do prefer quieter fans, but it isn't a deal breaker for me. When I game, I manage to get lost in the game despite the fan noise

I loved my W230SS with the Maxwell 860m. That was a kick ass chip. It performed well enough to get me to this dust busting 2070 super laptop. I ended up donating it to my friends and it's still going strong. I remember looking exhaustively to make sure it was the new maxwell version and not the 860m Kepler chip!

There are very few laptops that would cope with a 250W GPU and for that increase in performance the size doubles of the machine.
SAGER NP8458F2 is Max-Q?!
