@Forerunner: Hows the battery life with Crysis on High?
-
-
Planning to play it on the bus/subway
?
-
Forerunner, hows the screen at resolutions other than native res, example @ 1366 x 768? Works great, all text and graphics OK? Thanks!
-
Loving the screen.
-
When you say the power supply is big, how big/heavy is it? I'm really dreading carrying it around
-
@elingeniero: Not on the bus...
I guess I'm entitled to a few rounds of TDM on Crysis and Bad Company 2 at the Uni....won't always have power outlets there...
Not too out of this world I suppose... -
what's your HoN account name, so i can't judge you by your stats?
-
any chance u can find out how many spare mpcie ports this laptop has? from everest if u have it installed, or taking off the bottom cover?
-
Has one with a USB interface for WWAN datacards. In addition to the one WLAN + BT slot.
-
I am surprised nobody has given this thread a 5 star rating yet, well here it goes
-
Same here...
-
Funny. As long as I've been here I don't think I've ever ranked a thread. Never think about it, and never even look at it in the threads...
-
Added a five-star rating as well!
-
so does that mean 2? lol
are they both used up? -
Anyone know how the 460m compares to the 485m? Is it worth fishing out the extra 500 dollars if all I'm planning to do on it is watch 1080p videos, playsome SC2 and Diablo 3 when it comes out?
-
If thats what you want to do with it, I would pocket your $500
-
Apparently, the GTX 485M is on par with 2 GTX 460M's in SLI. I have even heard some suggest it outdoes that setup. All of the games you mentioned will perform perfectly with the GTX 460M though.
-
I think I'll go with the 485M then, how hot does the notebook get? I'm sort of paranoid about overheating laptops now since I have a G1S which surprisingly lasted 2 more years after one RMA.
-
With Sager / Clevo, they are known for their excellent cooling design. You have absolutely no worries about the GPU overheating. I don't remember the temperatures I have seen posted but all were within the safe zones. The cooling design of the G1s is nothing compared to the Clevo laptops, they are on a completely different level.
-
I five starred this thread too! Thank you Forerunner!
I can't wait for mine to come! Ordered through LPC Digital. Too bad these delays are happening but it's still not as bad as when I ordered my Dell Studio XPS 16 when they first came out with the i7s late 2009. That was supposed to be a 2 week wait and turned into a 2 month wait and then they shipped it to the wrong address... The invoice was right but the shipping label had an incorrect digit... -
Well I'm now questioning buying an XPS or AW system. Your review is great and I'll be looking up LPC Digital. I don't game, but I want a sweet lappy.
-
So how is the processor performance? I canceled my 8130 order to get the 8150 and have almost the exact same config. I wasn't sure whether to upgrade to the 2720qm, so I stuck with the 2630. Does it seem to work out just fine?
-
What are you planning to use the laptop for?
-
Can I ask why you changed?
-
I got mine with the 2720 it runs games and apps like a dream. I don't that upgrading to a faster, more expensive cpu is worth it.
-
2630QM is fine. I got the 2720QM mainly for the VT-d and AES not supported in the 2630QM. If you don't know what that is then you probably don't need it.
-
Darn, the way you say it, it sounds sarcastic and makes people feel they should get the 2720qm, regardless of what VT-d and AES is!
-
AAA Wheres forerunner, I need him to complete this review and give more benches.
We all need to send him a cake or something.
-
Sorry, I wasn't being sarcastic but serious. If you want the CPU power primarily for gaming then 2630qm is more than adequate. If you're into encoding, virtual machines using directed i/o, or encryption then the 2720qm is probably the better bet.
-
I wanted the 8150 for the 485m chip and the rubberized case instead of the hard plastic. I was worried about battery life and cost with the 485m, but the consensus has been that it's roughly the same battery life. The cost is worth it because it means I can go longer before upgrading (and the larger power supply means it's easier to upgrade). It only ended up being ~$400 more to get the 8150 with the better gpu anyway.
Yes, I do know what VT-d and AES are, but they aren't strictly speaking important. While yes, I do plan to run a few VM's, they won't need much hardware support because it's just going to end up being small linux VM's for my scripting and network administration classes. Even then, it'd only be while I'm mobile because at home I have a pretty powerful desktop that I do most of my VM work on. The laptop is mostly going to be used for lower power vm's, gaming, and web surfing type stuff. As long as the CPU is powerful enough for that, that's really all I'm worried about. I just wasn't sure if I'd end up regretting not spending the $160 for the 2720 if the 2630 will end up being a bottleneck. -
Considering the 2630qm is more powerful than all previous gen i7's I'd say it won't be a bottleneck.
-
Well, I think all you all should read this carefully, and after this start crying.
Intel screwed up. Back to the MSI GX660-060 plan.
Intel Identifies Chipset Design Error, Implementing Solution -
We've all been talking about this since this morning.
Not really going to cry though. -
able to post a pic of how thick it is next to an iphone 4 or a deck of cards or something for comparison?
-
................bump.........
nothin? -
The dimensions have been posted in this thread many times.
I believe it is 1.6 inches at its thickest -
iPhone 4 Depth: 0.37 inch
8150 / P150HM: 1.69 inches -
well EXCUSE me for being more of a visual person
-
-
Not sure why iphone, that's like comparing a go-kart to a winnebago, but here you go.
From Sizeeasy.com:
-
+1 for a super easy comparison.. haha.
When yours arrives, I'll be on the lookout for some first impressions!
-
UPS just pulled up! Woot!
-
I can already feel the vibe of eagerness and extreme joy.
-
I have THE BOX!
Problem is I just got back from the grocery store, house needs to be picked up and pick the kids up from daycare at 4:30pm. Going to my mom's house this weekend, and Super Bowl Sunday evening which I'll be home for, but not sure if I'll have time to play with it much. I should at least be able to get some initial impressions out though.
I will have to install my SSD, HDD, and RAM first though, then Windows, etc. So won't be able to do any benchmarks for a couple days probably.
Maybe I'll go buy a few DVD's for the little guys to zone out with while I tinker... man I'm such a bad father.
-
Haha, I'll be lounging around in the P170HM owners' lounge.
Probably shouldn't be spamming this thread any more.. -
Oh yeah woops, see u in NP8170... Sorry forerunner
-
+1 rep & 5 stars. Thank you awesome Review!
I was wondering what kind of battery life you're getting under normal usage?
(typing papers, surfing web, music/youtube, etc) -
That was cool!
-
I was wondering if you could give some idea of what the fan noise is like in two cases as follows:
- When mostly idle when you are browsing, performing office tasks, etc
- When running high CPU load but minimal GPU load.
The reason for these questions is that I plan on using the NP8150 in an office environment where I do both office and software development. The software development can ramp up the CPU as I run multiple servers and build processes simultaneous but there is no GPU load. The only time the GPU load would kick in for me is at night at my house or in a hotel when I'm playing a game.
