    I agree. By all means let their be a touchscreen derivative of the Series 9 but don't abandon the normal version. I presume that the touchscreens have a glossy finish for ease of cleaning, while one of the current strengths of the Samsung notebook range is the matte screens without annoying reflections.

    I had to do a clean install of windows and as usual can't seem to figure out which appor driver is needed to get the F key functions working again. I know they are not showing on the screen but other than the mute key I'm not sure they are working at all. Can somebody please tell me what it is that I need?...thanks.

    Easy Settings / Settings contains the Fn key driver. More here on how it works.

    Thanks John. I found the module from the link you included and when I ran that they came back but for some reason the option doesn't appear anywhere in easy settings when I look there. Maybe I need to reinstall it.

    Yes. I would reinstall Easy Settings. It installs everything that it thinks is appropriate for that model of notebook.

    I did and it still doesn't add it on its own. The .exe is there and I copied it into the startup folder and that works fine. I must say I am impressed by the NP900X3D..yeah, it has a last gen cpu only clocked at 1.4 but it still seems faster than the X3C I had this past summer and I definitely think the SSD is faster. This one still measures a 7.4 after a clean install and the other one would get a 5.9. As I no longer have the other one I wonder if this is a newer version. Its a U100 SMG2 si if somebody still has the old one they can see if that is the same. Anyway at $500 less than the X3C it is definitely a keeper.

    It least you've got a work-around for Easy Settings not having get everything set up properly.

    Regarding the SSD, I would run CrystalDiskMark and see how it compares to my results here. If your old SSD only scored 5.9 in WEI it's as if Windows didn't recognise it as an SSD in which case various SSD-related tweaks might not have been applied.

    Thanks. Most notably the sequential write is better. However, the 4KQD32 is still poor. The test comes when you have filled the RAM and try to load another program so the SSD has to try to handle concurrently dumping some of the RAM to virtual memory on the SSD and loading the program from the SSD. That scenario, in my experience, caused the computer to temporarily freeze.

    I totally agree that this isn't ideal but I would still rather have this with the magnesium body for $800 than pretty much any other ultrabook going these days especially since most of them are using the same SSD anyway. Besides, I can always swap it out!

    Oh, and did I mention that the space bar doesn't even clank in this one? :)

    Here are the registry settings I used to bring back two-finger tap --> pop-up menu. Is this what you are looking for?

    "Tap_Two_Finger_ShowItem"=dword:00000001
    "Tap_Two_Finger_Enable"=dword:00000001
    "Tap_Two_Finger"=dword:00000001
    "Tap_Two_Finger_Ex"=""
    "Tap_Two_Finger_Path"=""

    The one finger tap has been soooo much better in this version. Finally no dragging things all over the place!

    I'll give the new driver a second go with your registry findings.
    The one finger improvements sound promising.

    Sandy bridge. I don't think you can get the ivy bridge version of the X3D for anywhere near $800 yet you can get the 15 inch version from Amazon for about $1100. Makes no sense at all since it is twice that on Samsung's site. Granted that one is the A03US so it has 8 pro and 8GB of ram instead of home premium and 4GB but the rest of it seems the same.

    I don't get to work Brian.

    I put you settings at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay, is that correct?

    And are you using driver version 14.1.3?

    Different path - I set them in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad (not SmartPadDisplay). After you set these you should be open up the Control Pane --> Touchpad and see the option available again. Toggling it off and then back on should make it take affect without requiring a reboot for it to pickup new registry settings.

    Yes, I am using version 14.1.3.

    I just ordered the np900x3c-a04SE after finding it for around 1150€ in Sweden. It has a 256gb ssd, do anyone know what ssd it is in this particular model?

    Hello, I just want to confirm I have this right before I play with my registry....is the value I need to enter =dword:00000001 or dword:00000001 or just 00000001 ?

    Thanks for the clarification!

    If you have to ask that, you probably should not be making modifications to the registry.

    Dword stands for double word. The value is 1.

    Do you not have the registry entry already present? Do you know where to look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad ???

    sadly the Win7 X3C on amazon.co.uk has gone back up to £980 from its previous low of £849.

    I was lucky, and I hope the price drops back down again for others too.

    Device Manager will give a model number which you can Google if not self-explanatory. I think LTN means Liteon.

    The new touchpad drivers have finally improved the glitchy highlighting behaviour even with the double-tap to select option turned off... I've turned it back on and it hasn't started highlighting randomly when moving the pointer around as it did before.

    A couple things have become worse though - first i can't seem to individually turn off the windows 8 edge swipe gestures - either all on or all off it seems, even if i try to mess with them individually in regedit.

    Also it seems two-finger scrolling acceleration is turned off, so if i swipe quickly it doesn't scroll any faster - anyone know any way to bring this back?

    I've come upon some problems these first few hours. First of, something about the internet on it is bad, a lot of times the pages don't load properly at all(100 fiber internet wlan)

    When i try to open a couple of things at ones, like a few web pages it feels really slow, could be power saving mode maybe? Or just that the cpu is much slower than what I'm used to on my stationery. It feels like the computer freezes up when you try to do more than one thing at once.

    I've had some sound problems. the problem is that there is some. well maybe static sounding noice some times from the speakers.

    The touchpad is decent but still way behind the mac I came from.

    Overall do I like the computer, it is silent and keeps cool. The battery time is decent and will hopefully last a day of writing in school. I am truly amazed that a computer can be this freaking thin!

    Hi,

    I've had my NP900X3C for about 1.5 months and just a few days ago mine made the noise you're talking about. I was watching a youtube video for about 20 minutes and all of the sudden it had this long high pitch electric sound which started low and then started rising in pitch. I thought it was coming from the fan at first, but I lifted my laptop and couldn't absolutely determine where it came from. In total it lasted about 10-15 seconds and then went away.

    It has not since come back and I don't know how to reproduce it at this time. I'm not sure if there is a way to manually activate both fans for me to ensure it's not from it. Also, if this helps I did notice my sound from my youtube video had static while the high pitch sound came which does make me wonder if it's related to the speakers and not necessarily from the fan. Has yours made any more high pitch noises? If mine happens again, I think I'll try to mute my speakers to rule that out as a cause. I'm hoping mine is just a one time event for now.

    Been traveling with the notebook and a new problem has developed. The trackpad is behaving poorly. A simple left click tapping will either not register or be a right click. Or if I do a right click by depressing the bottom right of the trackpad, nothing registers. With my connected mouse, the buttons will get remapped so left is right and vice versa. I can change the property back and forth in control panel, but appears the fix is only temporary. I'm thinking perhaps the sensor got mucked on the plane at some point, but I don't see any dents. Any ideas? I'm using elan 10.7.8.2 on an x3b, should I upgrade, it was working fine until now.

    What mouse are you using and did it install mouse software that could be having an impact? I use Microsoft mouses but routinely uninstall and ignore attempts for Intellimouse installs.

    I think I have to restart the webreader around 10-15 times a day because it stops loading pages completely and reload paged maybe 50 times or more a day because it only loads small parts of the page some times. This must be some problem that very few have right? I mean, I love the computer otherwise but they couldn't possible get good reviews with this terrible problem. I use Wifi on good internet and google chrome as my web reader. I mean, I can work through it but it is really annoying.

    I'm using an MS 5000 bluetooth mouse. On toying a little more, there doesn't appear to be any issue with the mouse. Just the trackpad doesn't register correctly when I press either bottom corner (either nothing or a continuous hold). It doesn't feel like it did before either I think.

    I couldn't find that driver, but I updated to 10.7.17.5 and no change. I did a reimage from when it was working and still nothing. Looks like I'll have to send it into support when I get back. :mad:

    Thanks.

    See this post of mine further up the page. I uploaded the 11.7.2.1 driver and provided a link.

    Thanks John. Still no luck I'm afraid.

    Thanks for uploading the drivers. Works great on my X3B. No more 1 finger dragging a browsing tab like before

    Santa delivered an X3C A05US, and I'm looking for some upgrade advice.

    Looking around the web, upgrading the RAM seems pretty straight forward, but what modules are best?

    These puppies are CAS9 and 1.35v. Has anyone plugged these in yet?

    Edit: Well shoot. Looks like I got ahold of conflicting info... Seems the RAM is soldered in, so no SODIMM slots? NM.
