I just purchased a Samsung series 3 NP300E5C-A01US with 15.6" HD LED screen. I really like the computer so far, but my issue is the screen. It's a matte screen which was something I was looking for on my next computer. However, I can see very small squares on my screen on everything I view. They're much more noticable on lighter images. Nothing looks very sharp, instead things look a little fuzzy to me. The outlines are a bit blurred, not crisp and sharp like I expected. My older LCD HP screen is sharper than this one. Are these the pixels I'm seeing or do you think it's from the matte coating on the screen? Has anyone else experienced this on a similar computer? Is therem anything I can do to minimize this? Thanks in advance!

Go to Color Management and calibrate your screen. At the end there is a selection for you to finetune how text is displayed.

15.6 at 1366x768 will not be very sharp but make sure you are running at the native resolution....................

It's not just the text. Pictures aren't very sharp either. I will try adjust the text again. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure it's at the native resolution. I haven't changed that at all. I'm pretty sure my HP's resolution was the same. It just looks so much sharper. I'm thinking it might have to do with the matte coating?

I have seen new systems even at BB on display that were advertised as 1366x768 but somehow it was displaying at the setting of 1024x768 and looked all dull and blury.............

I don't know if that's what's wrong with mine, but when I go into "Intel Graphics and Media" from the control panel it says it's at 1366x768. Who knows. I'm going to try it for a few more days to see if I can used to it. If not, guess I'll be sending it back :(

I wonder if it would be less noticable if I were to downsize to the 14" screen from this 15.6"?

I have to wonder if this is the screen door effect which I noticed on my Lenovo T420s (basically there are gaps between the rows and columns of pixels which show up as lines). If it is noticeable at 1600 x 900 resolution on 14" then it will be even worse at 1366 x 768 @ 15.6". In addition to the display calibration already suggested I would propose to try adjusting the gamma setting in the display properties.

John, that sounds like what I'm experiencing! It's very noticable, at least to me. Do you think it would be less noticable if I went with a 14" display with the same resolution?

It should be less noticeable at 14" because everything is smaller. Or the panel may be made differently without the gaps between the pixels. 1600 x 900 is a more sensible resolution at 15.6" but is rarely offered as standard.

    Here's a zoomed-in photo of the T420s screen:

However, by adjusting the gamma I made the problem much less noticeable so I suggest you give it a try. Also try working through the ClearType options.

I've adjusted everything I can on this thing lol. It seems to be noticable no matter what I do. I might just send this one back and exchange for the 14" model and see if it is less noticable. Thank you for putting a name to what I've been experiencing...I've never heard that before.

I think the term was invented to describe the panels used on the Lenovo T420 / T420s (and, I believe the replacement models). I was close to sending my T420s back but the gamma adjustment made it usable. personally, i wouldn't buy a 15.6" screen with such a low resolution. That physical space should be put to better use (I'm looking at the 15.0" 1600 x 900 panel of my X4C).

I agree. The strange thin is, my old HP that I'm replacing is 15.6" with the 1366x768 and I don't even notice it unless I bring it right up to my face...but on this one it's just horrible. :(
