14" Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3C

Just to echo what Matt said: I have the 14 inch Z3A (older Sandy Bridge model with AMD graphics) and love this little thing. The small size (for a 14 inch), matte screen, great keyboard and touchpad.

Your Z3C will be even better, with Ivy Bridge and Nvidia.

Well, i wanted to sleep on it and order it this morning, aaaaaaaand its out of stock. HATE when that happens, nobody else seems to sell the model in the US right now...

 

Not sure if this is useful info, but I just noticed that tigerdirect.com has the 15" NP700Z5C-S01US for $1000. I can tell you for sure that I'm a HUGE fan, but it is a little bigger and more expensive than the 14". Of course you also get a bit more RAM and a better GPU.

NewEgg sent me back the exact same laptop! I called and the determination was that my issue was unreproducable and the laptop was operational. After pressing them a bit, I found out they don't send/recieve data and only check for signal strength so their ability to experience the dropped connections would be limited.

After explaining the issue again and letting them know that my efforts and the efforts of Samsung Technical Support were detailed in the paperwork I sent with the laptop, they offered to escalate the issue to a senior cusomter service representative for replacement or possible store credit.

To their credit, Samsung also offered to warranty the card, but would not (or could not) replace it with the earlier 6230 model.

But, after reading through the links (thank you John!!!), I decided to disable the N mode and that seems to have solved the problem. The small amount of bandwidth is worth the value of this laptop. I've worked on it for a few days and I'm more impressed with the computer now than ever. For a sub $900 computer, this is an extrodinary feature filled value.

For others that may need specific instructions:
In the Start Menu type Device Manager in the Search field
Open the Deivice Manager and expand the Network Adapters tree
Select Intel Centrino and right click to open Properties
Select the Advanced tab
In the Properties box select 802.11n Mode
With that highlighted, go to the Values box and change Enable to Disable
Hit OK and Save or OK your way back out
Restart and you should be good to go

At least it worked for me...

 

Great post, Dale: You showed persistence, worked it out, and are now having a machine you enjoy. Thanks for sharing your solution and steps, too (disabling Wireless-N).

Lets hope NewEgg, Samsung or Intel come through eventually and fix this issue, so you can get this snafu handled too.

The responsibility lands squarely on Intel for this issue. It's difficult to understand why they wouldn't rewrite the driver or (at least) admit the error and publish this work around. It should be easier to find.

I just bought a samsung np700z3c and I'm really glad about it but I'm having some issues while trying to see hd videos on youtube. The notebook seems to have trouble rendering the video because hd doesn't seems hd at all =|

Does anyone know how to fix it? thanks

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new laptop. I got a similar (though older) 14 inch NP700Z3A myself, and love this little machine.

I assume you checked that the videos in question actually ARE high-def, and you selected the 720p feed in youtube. I am sorry, I just had to ask...

I think the first thing to check is your WiFi: Your model comes with Intel 6235 WiFi adapter, which has caused problems for many users. There are several things you want to check and set in your system and your router to ensure the best performance. Check the post linked here as well as the ones linked within that.

Keep us posted on your progress (this thread is OK). We'll help you get it working

I've updated all drivers and turned off the screen color effects from easy settings and apparently all is working fine right now ^^

So this time I'm here to make you a question. So my computer charges his battery till 99% and never goes till 100%. And the problem is the led keeps ambar which means the battery is still charging. I'm kinda afraid this may damage the battery. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for the help

 

Something not right there. The charging should stop.

The best route to battery longevity is to enable the Battery Life Extender option in (Easy) Settings. This limits the maximum charge to 80%. See if that gets the charge light to turn green.

Hi, which is the difference between NP700Z3C-S02, NP700Z3C-S03, etc?

 

There are no firm rules on those submodel numbers, they vary completely from model to model and from country to country. Typical differences are RAM, CPU, storage.

You have to go to Samsung.com and lookup the model on the Support page, usually (not always) there is a Specs page there.

 

Ok, so as a new user I have a few questions: I installed an SSD and did a fresh install of Windows 7 (as it came with Windows 8 that I dislike very much), which works almost fine, but the drivers downloaded from Samsung's site leave me somewhat handicapped. The buttons for changing the keyboard backlight don't work, I can't turn off the WiFi although that button does give me a pop-up, it just won't switch off. These are minor issues I can live with. Biggest problem is the machine won't wake up when I open the lid. It'll go to sleep when the lid is closed, but I have to press the power button to get it back on again. Any ideas how to solve this would be greatly appreceated.

Perhaps there's anyone here that has the recovery media for Windows 7, and is willing to upload that so I can try a fresh image?

 

You need to use Samsung's SW Update program to get the drivers and software, starting with Easy Settings which is further discussed in http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/729139-settings-easy-settings-what-you-need-know.html.

I don't know whether this is the right place to post this, but I have swapped the 6235 intel wireless out with a Killer Wireless 1201, I have 2 problems not major though.
1. when coming out of sleep I have to wait a good 30 secs for the wifi to work even though its connected.
2. bluetooth disapears completely when coming out of sleep/hibernation, a restart will bring it back again.

any ideas??

I am afraid I have no experience with the Killer card, so this will be pure speculation:

First of all, make sure you uninstall/re-install [Easy] Settings after swapping in the Killer card. Hopefully that will remove any modules that are no longer relevant after the Intel card was removed. This applies to both issues you mention.

1) If you're using Windows 7 and Easy Settings, the Fast Boot/Boot Optimization feature has been known to cause issues like the WiFi delay you're describing. I would make sure it is thoroughly disabled in Easy Settings and all tasks originally controlled by it are restored. It's a tricky process, described in the Latencies thread, starting around page 8.

Also test whether loading or not loading the WLANStartup module in Task scheduler has a positive or negative effect. That too is described in the Latencies thread.

I have also found that strange interactions with ExpressCache can cause unintended delays (when it should be the opposite). Defragging the drive, then running BOOTOPT.BAT (in the ExpressCache folder) has been known to cure that. Check the ExpressCache thread, starting around page 11.

2) The Bluetooth issue sounds like a problem with the drivers for the Killer card. In order to diagnose it, you could try and completely uninstall [Easy] Settings to see if it interferes with your Bluetooth (AND WiFi for that matter) or whether these are all issues with the driver. You could probably disable/enable the Bluetooth Radio in Device Manage after wake-up instead of doing a full reboot.

That's all I have. It would be great if someone who tried the Killer card could chime in, but the only other mention of it I recall is by member gonzagnr in the NP700Z5C lover's thread, starting around page 225.

I'm using windows 8, so I dont know whether those fast optimizations options will work for me. I disabled the WLANStartup module and it made it a little quicker, but even though the 6235 was terrible it did work straight away.

Do you mean disable bluetooth before I sleep the laptop? as when I wake from sleep it is completely gone like it never existed!

I've nearly got the perfect laptop, thanks to the community I sorted out the problem with my touchpad, swapped out the 6235 with a killer wireless 1201 (which is awesome) but I just have a few niggles left

 

If you're using Win8 and Settings (as opposed to Win7 and Easy Settings) you don't have to worry about that boot optimization feature. (And to clarify: it's a feature to disable and defeat for those using Win7.)

I presume you uninstalled the Samsung and Intel provided Bluetooth and WiFi drivers and installed ones for the Killer card. Definitely do that. And also uninstall/reinstall Settings afterwards (reboots after each).

I am hoping that Settings will then reinstall without any of the modules that deal with WiFi and Bluetooth, leaving the Killer's drivers to control it.

If the Killer drivers drivers don't enable Bluetooth after resume (once you've cleaned out any Samsung and Intel drivers and Settings modules), you should bug the vendor about that.

 

after installing windows 8.1 I'm having an abnormally long wait when trying to get the right click context menu to show on the desktop, 16 seconds in total.

Is any one else experiencing this??
