    hi all,
could you give me a list of current 14" notebooks from Samsung with either Intel's Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPUs or AMD's Trinity APUs? i'm specifically looking for ones that include an optical disc drive. it's very hard to go through Samsung's website and filter out the 14" ones, given their weird naming scheme.
    thanks a lot :)

NP700Z3C (the "3" is because they claim it's the size of a normal 13" notebook)
    NP530U4C

There may be something in the Series 3 (budget) range.

thank you so much. i really appreciate it :)

the Series 7 one is beyond my price and weight range. i also did some search on the net, and have found the Series 5 14" one you've mentioned. it seem like it will fit my needs, both the Intel NP530U4C and the AMD (quad-core) NP535U4C variants look like solid machines. do you know of any deals coming up? (apparently, the AMD one was around $650 on amazon a couple of days ago).

also, have you had any personal experience with the NP530U4C/NP535U4C laptops? any hardware quirks, build quality issues? the main competitors are
    1) SONY VAIO T 14" (SVT14)
    2) DELL Inspiron 14z Ultrabook
    3) SAMSUNG Series 5 14" (NP535U4C/NP530U4C)

    thanks again.

    thanks a lot.

from that review, it seems like the 14" AMD Series 5 (NP535U4C) is a very nice machine. i've come across this one which is Intel-bases. the part number (NP520U4C) is different from the ones you've mentioned before. is this a previous revision, an older model? i doubt it, since it has an Ivy Bridge i5 CPU. i wonder what the difference is...

One difference may be intel vs atheros WiFi chip.AFAIK it is pretty tough to figure out if a system comes with Intel or Atheros. In my case I called Samsung tech support before I made a purchase and even they couldn't tell me if it came with intel or Atheros. One tech rep told me the unit came with Intel chip but it turned out to be Atheros.

Based on my experience Atheros Wifi/Bluetotooth cards (AR3012 etc) has issues with audio when using Bluetooth headset. Audio stutters if the sound output is idle for a bit.

No such problem with Intel N6235. Presently I am waiting for N6235 module to arrive to swap out an Atheros chip in my 3 series 15.6 inch Samsung. John Ratsey gave me the idea :)

according to specs from SAMSUNG, it also has a full-voltage 2.5GHz mobile i5 processor compared to the 1.7GHz ULV one in the NP530U4C and is pre-installed with Windows 8 rather than Windows 7. the batteries are also different.

the price is too good to be true!

We bought a Samsung NP530U4C-S01ES. For us, the optical drive and the matte screen were very important.
I wrote a little review here:
Notebook review: the Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C Ultrabook

I also included a little overview over the available configurations - there is even one with an Intel Core i7 processor, unfortunately only in Germany

I bought my Series 7 NP700Z3A-S03US (Sandy Bridge i5-2450M, AMD 6490M, 8GB RAM, 750GB 7200rpm, 8GB ExpressCache, DVD RW, 14" matte 1600x900) in July 2012 for $600 at a Walmart Clearance. It was about to be replaced with the Ivy Bridge Z3C at the time. Regular price was about $899 (or even $999), other stores were clearing it at $800, and I had to drive to a Walmart an hour away to get it.

My main work machine is an old HP HDX18, because I need its bigger screen, resolution and numeric keypad. But for typing, meetings and working outside, the Samsung is the best laptop I've ever had: Beautiful and compact design, excellent matte screen (mediocre contrast, but very bright), excellent touchad, excellent keyboard, pretty fast (thanks to 7200rpm and ExpressCache). I went through a couple units with poor WiFi and touchpad before getting this one.

Technically it was for my wife, but we got her a tablet since, so I get to use it most of the time :D

This year Samsung seems to have decided that nobody wants quality 14" or 15" laptops. They are focusing on 13.3" and 15.6".

Edit: I since saw all the other posts you made about this in various threads. I deleted one (in an unrelated WiFi thread) but had to leave the others because they already had responses. Please avoid cross posting in the future. It is against forum rules and general netiquette. This apples to everyone who sees this.
