Do we know for sure that a Full HD PLS is coming to the 15" ?

If not, I will look into alternatives, problem is that Full HD PLS is too small for the current 13" with my old eyes :)

Samsung said at CES that FHD is coming on the 15". Whether it will be PLS or some other technology remains to be seen. They are using an AUO MVA panel in some of the new Series 7 and that also offers excellent viewing angles. I doubt if the Series 9 will be given a worse panel (but sometimes I am wrong). I doubt we will know more until the Haswell models are announced, which might be in June.

If you find any alternatives then let me know: The 15" Series 9 seems to offer the unique combination of a bigger display than the 14" notebook in a package that weighs less and is also noticeably smaller than the 15.6" machines. As and when a new X4 appears I will have to weigh up whether having a higher quality (I hope) panel but FHD is worth more than the potential hassles of display scaling. FHD + 125% is slightly bigger than 100% on HD+. Even at 100% I sometimes have problems with text not fitting into boxes, etc and that's usually caused by programmers not considering display or font scaling. The last time I had to use display scaling was with my Samsung X60plus which used Windows XP. It was almost usable then but sometimes caused problems. With the proliferation of FHD panels there must now be a lot of people using display scaling and we don't read many complaints.

Yeah, I've seen the new Series 7 FULL HD screen and it looks very good, a screen like that on the new Samsung Series 15" would be perfect.

There are no real alternatives yet.

HP tells me that more FULL HD IPS screens are coming during 2013, so it's definately something that has more focus than ever.

For my part, I always liked a higher pixel density. 1600x900 on my 14 inch Series 7 is perfect for me. The lack of 1920x1080 was a significant reason why I never considered last year's 15 inch models. So I'll probably be tempted later this year with the new FHD models (if they can sort out the keyboard contrast issue).

OTOH FHD on a 13 inch screen is just too much (without scaling) I have to agree with that. Although it might work better for you, wii, if you take those shades off :D

    Sorry, I couldn't help it. That's a cool avatar!

Yeah, I love my avatar

My limit is the Macbook Retina 13", it's 1680x1050 pixels is very nice and not too small on OSX, but 1920x1080 pixels on 13" is very small.

That's why the Samsung Series 9 15" would be perfect in Full HD.

Lets just hope Samsung does the right thing with the Series 9 15" Haswell based model. But I am not holding my breath.

Well, it would be a logical step for Samsung, they implemented Full HD on the 13", why shouldn't they do the same for the 15" ?

It would have been logical for Samsung to put a PLS screen on the 15" so it didn't invite criticism and negative comparisons to the stellar 13". But they didn't do that.

Therefore, you really can't make any assumptions about logic with Samsung.

It is a wait and see game right now. Shipping is a feature.

Samsung probably didn't have the 15" PLS screen ready in time, now they have the chance, I'm quite sure they will release it sometime this year.
