You should try the unplugging thing it helps a lot.

I think it doesn't have to anything with mantle because it and directx are completely different API's that are never active together at the same time.

Pretty important for everyone who needs to unplug in order to have decent performance on AMD 14.x:
install machater's tool for applying leekm's enduro fix. It fixed it for me!!!

    Link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...7800-7900-8500-8600-8700-8800-8900m-gpus.html

Please let me know if it fixes it for you guys. Not having to un- and replug every level/match is so much better!

does not work for me, once tabbed out + starting another application makes it as laggy as it was before, unplugging doesnt help either. so maybe i will just have to live with it ;)

edit: apparently if i enable overdrive and even set it to only 0% it seems to stay fluent :D that would be amazing, thanks!
edit2: just played a whole dota2 game, pushed all settings to max and tabbed out and started other things. with overdrive activated i didnt get a single drop in anything. try this. thanks pranktank.

If you are not sure whether these freezes also affected the original Win8 installation, you could make an image backup of your current installation (using Acronis or similar), then restore the factory installation and see if you can reproduce it. If the problem is still present in the factory installation, you have a very legitimate complaint you can take to Samsung (assuming you still have warranty). And in either case can you quickly restore the image of your current installation and continue work.

You can also use Event Viewer and LatencyMon and see if you can track down what causes these freezes. The thread linked below provides an example where we managed to locate the cause of extreme lags, and the member had it repaired.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/750256-samsung-5-series-laptop-freezing-issues.html

As we discussed back here, if the problem is unique to AutoCAD, it could be a bug in either in the app itself or in AMD's CUDA or OpenCL drivers. As I mentioned back then, my AutoCAD experience is badly outdated (as in 1980'es), but can you configure it to use either CUDA or OpenCL? If so, you could try switching, and see if it helps. Or even try using CPU-only, just to see if that cures the freezes.

Did you ask AutoDesk if they have some suggestions?

    Hi

My speakers doens't work anymore after last Audio Update from software update. I am pretty sure is that because i used a recovery point of windows to rollback. Unfortunately, this morning, SW Update reinstall automatically the drivers and i don't have the recovery point available anymore.

Did someone encountered that problem and solved it?

I wonder if this could help fix my problems with AutoCAD. I'm not sure since the performance of my laptop will drop ONLY when it freezes and I restart it. Other than that, performance is satisfying if no freeze occurs. :$

Thanks for posting this tho :D

Thank you for your reply :D

How long is the warranty period for this laptop? It was purchased on May 2nd, 2013.
So Acronis would create a separate complete image of my system that could be restored afterwards, without affecting anything, and everything would be back as before?
I will have a look at those utilities you mentioned so that I might be able to find what is causing these stupid freezes :p Thanks!

I think in Europe and many other parts of the world, consumer electronics are legally obliged to have a 2 year warranty. Mine has 2 years warranty, and since samsung's warranty is international I suppose it's the same in Italy.

Knowing you are in EU, I assume you have two years, for the reason stated by pranktank. Although my understanding is that EU law only covers the retailer, not the manufacturer, so if Samsung isn't helpful, you may have to contact the place where you bought it.

Just be very careful with Acronis and all partition tools ONLY to touch the Windows partition, NOT the Recovery partitions, since they are known to break F4. This works best if your data is on a separate (and separately backed up) partition. That way you can swap Windows installations in and out to test things.

Of course you can also use Samsung Recovery to backup your current installation to an external HDD.

But the first thing I'd do is check if AutoCAD still freezes regardless of whether CUDA, OpenCL or CPU is used (assuming you can configure that).

Guys, I was this close to grab the laptop and throw it out of the window after another crash, and then realized that I had downloaded that Enduro fix suggested by prank tank but still hadn't installed it. So, i tried to install it and it looks like the laptop is working fine again. I will have to stress it a bit more to see if any more crashes occur (I wouldn't even define them as crashes since the screen just freezes and no dump file is created). Hopefully I won't have to start messing with partitions, image backups and OS installs, because I honestly don't want to touch those at all :p

Let's hope for the best :p tomorrow is my last day at work before my two weeks off, but it should be enough to test the fix and see if it worked for me :) thanks!

Edit: regarding OpenCL and company, I'm not sure how I can try to enable them. AutoCAD has some sort of automatic optimization for the video card one has on their machine, so I have no clue about how to tweak those settings. I will wait and see if the fix will be enough, otherwise I will look for a tutorial about OpenCL ;D

Do WiFi and BT both work and can you turn them on and off using Fn+F10 or Settings?

This has been the problem encountered by others who upgraded their WiFi. See here, for example.

The problem discussed there is specific to Win7 and Easy Settings, which contains code to physically power off the Bluetooth adapter, and in the case of 7260 does so inadvertently during startup. Settings (Win8) does not touch the actual Bluetooth hardware (its toggle feature merely disables the adapter in Device Manager) and does not have this problem. I understand that was a reason why member go45cvi ended up running Win8 instead after replacing his 6235 adapter with 7260.

What is very strange and frustrating, is that even after installing Samsung-provided drivers from recent models delivered with Win7 and 7260, members aamsel and go45cvi were still unable to make it work with Win7 on their NP900X3E.

So did you also do a clean install of Windows on the SSD at the same time as swapping the WiFi card?

I am still experiencing overheating problems, but seemingly only when plugged in. Last night I was watching a film, unplugged and the laptop was running at 54 degrees. When plugged in, you could hear either the fan or GPU power up instantly and the temperature rose steadily to 97 degrees at which point I unplugged it again. I've read online that this might be a problem with the GPU so am going to try updating the drivers. Is 14.4 still the most recommended release? And if so, the link in the OP doesn't work any more.

I will also try out the Enduro fix posted earlier.

I feel quite fortunate that my 780Z5E's Intel 6235 has been work working fine both re: wifi and bluetooth. After a year and a couple of months with this notebook, I have to say that it is by far the best notebook I have ever owned (compared to a few Asus notebooks, a MacBook and a MacBook Pro). It has proven to be a desktop replacement for me.

This sounds like a hardware problem. Can you hear/feel/see whether both fans are running? If yes, and you have made sure that the vents are not blocked it is most likely a very bad pastejob.

You could reapply the thermal paste yourself, which is hard to do and will likely void your warranty or let samsung fix it for you.q

I did a Win 8.1 clean install when I swapped the HDD. Installed the latest Intel drivers for the N-6235 at that time.

The AC7260 came a week later. It was a straight swap. Didn't even need to install drivers.

    Thanks.

Perhaps Intel have improved the driver in the past year. Around a year ago I tried a 7260 in my NP900X4C to try to overcome the problems with the 6235. However, the driver defied my best efforts to get it configured properly and Device Manager reported an error.

Intel released a better 6235 driver not long after so I haven't tried again with the 7260.

    Hey guys it's my first post but i've been reading this thread since it come up. So this is my problem with windows 8.1 Update 1;

I have artifacts or shadow i dont know how to call them on desktop wallpaper when i use firefox or chrome and minimize it shows like this [IMG]

Also when i go to to Start, Aplications i can see the things that i have on the desktop and the Start button and the apps that i have pinned in the taskbar

If i try to make a screenshot in windows the artifacts doesnt show up...strange so i had to take some photos with my cellphone.
This show sometimes and sometimes it goes away by itself, i've made a several clean up install this day trying to find out if it's the driver or what and i noticed that even with a clean install without installing any graphic driver it happens the same.

I have AMD 14.4 installed and Intel HD 10.18.10.3304, what do you think guys?

Ok so today i installed windows 7 to see if happens to and it does the same thing! i think there is a problem with my graphic card? Any idea? Sorry for my english!

Does Device Manager show you have a working HID-compliant touchscreen?

That looks like the image retention problem that is discussed in several places in this thread. If you are still in warranty then ask Samsung to replace the display.

Then, unfortunately, you will have to live with it. Had you noticed the problem 3 months ago then you could have asked for a replacement under warranty.

You may be able to minimise the problem by moving the windows around slightly at intervals.

People have had displays with this problem replaced under warranty. I don't know if the problem then starts to re-occur or whether Samsung changed the panel type.

SW Update has a new audio driver (7299) that removes the speaker cancellation functionality of the microphone. Previously, on 6890, you could have music running from your laptop speakers and your mic would automatically cancel it out when in applications such as skype. After update, people on the other end can hear your speakers through your microphone.

Normally, this wouldn't bother me much because I can just ignore updates, but lately SW update (or something else, maybe windows update?) has been installing updates by itself without user input. I often come back after idling to see that my audio device has disappeared, and upon restarting via device manager/rebooting, the driver number is now 7299.

    Anyone have any tips?

(Also for anyone having trouble with the GPU not kicking in for 3D applications, what I've been doing with 14.4 official is running the application once while unplugged, then plugging it in after the application starts. From that point on, GPU seems to toggle correctly for all applications. Works about 90% of the time for me.)

Edit: Did some googling. Apparently something called S Agent is the culprit for installing things behind my back. I've killed the process and disabled its startup in Task Scheduler (sneaky place to hide it). I'll see for a week or so if driver installation still misbehaves.

Several members have reported that SW Update automatically installed updates, yet I have never experienced it do that in the 2+ years with my Sammy, across any of several Win7/8/8.1 installations.

You have to disable the sAgent Scheduled Task, for sure. Most Samsung software loads as Scheduled Tasks (including Settings/Easy Settings) which provides some additional control over the trigger and priority compared to simply loading them through RUN keys in the registry.

But strangely, some versions of SW Update load the agent with a service (SW Update Service) while others rely on this scheduled task. So even with the sAgent task disabled, you may find a "SW Update Agent" task running in the background after login, if you have since updated to a version that includes the service. I suppose you could try and disable that service (or set it to Manual) but it is possible that SW Update won't work if you do.

Please report back if you test this ;)

I'm still getting automatic audio driver updates. This is starting to annoy me quite a bit. I've disabled SW update service in services, but it doesn't seem to actually fix anything. Something else is installing the driver behind my back. At this point, I might consider turning UAC back on (the horror) and windows update for drivers to off to see if that might fix it.

It sounds like Windows Update may indeed be the culprit. I've always had mine set to only notify me of updates, but let me choose whether and when to download and install them.

You could also try this. Search for Device Installation Settings and in the window that pops up choose "Let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from Windows Update".

Or did you already do this? Sorry if I missed it.

Yep. It was the next thing I tried, and it's been fine for a couple of days now. Thanks guys!

(Actually, it's probably both. I tried turning on the SW update service again, and it popped up a dialogue saying it was installing an update before I killed the process)

I really don't know if this works or not but to everyone with IMAGE RETENTION issues I suggest trying this easy method! Play video below on full screen a couple of times and report if there's any improvement. It's worth a shot for everyone without a warranty. Good luck!

Samsung's international notebook warranty is described here.

Their ability in any of the listed locations to provide a reasonable service may well be constrained by whether a particular notebook is sold in that region.

Have you tried using the one finger and two finger tap instead of clicking?

I finally couldnt take it anymore and bought a Samsung 840 Evo. I see a ton of tutorials on here, and realize that some may be outdated. I have Windows 8.1 now, with all the latest updates. Is there anything that i should do differently than the install tutorial linked in the initial post?

    Thanks all

Check to see if there is anything else relevant in the sticky list.

Indeed, the sticky list was recently updated with links to cloning/re-imaging as well as clean install guides. Start with that cloning/re-imaging link.

Thank you for your answer John !

Unfortunately my country is not listed :(

I have tried and i works great, however try to select a text to copy is impossible (i use that funtion a lot) ..... so i wonder what would be the reason/s of the touchpad (left click and right click) to be stuck? .......

    i hope there is a solution :(

You may be able to investigate your touchpad click behaviour by taking the bottom off the computer and then removing the battery. This should help you understand the problem and identify possible solutions. I recall a Samsung owner (I can't remember which model) improving their touchpad clicking behaviour by putting some foam underneath.

this all went very smoothly. i found the easiest path as to shrink the main partition and clone using samsung recovery. physically installing was a breeze.

also, i know its been posted over and over in this thread, but wow what a difference. its completely night and day, like a brand new laptop. I cant believe they even sell it without an SSD. this laptop performs at least 10x as well with one in there. I cant believe i went a whole year before upgrading

Hi guys, i'm writting here because my laptop isn't switching on my radeon 8800m for gaming. I have tried many things :
update to Win 8.1 for last drivers
used leshcat driver (following it's tutorial)
tryed the latest amd beta driver (14.7rc)
and finally desisntall it for the driver given by windos update, without success....

I just want to throw this laptop or burn it !!

Is there a solution which work for everyone (including reset of the laptop as last solution) ??

Thank you for your help !

Edit : In order to add something to explain my problem : when i used GPU z, it seems that the software make a mistake between the intel chipset and the AMD GPU !
In fact, when i seletc Intel graphic sensor , it gives me the following characteristics :
    GPU Core Clock : 350MHz
    GPU Memory Clock : 800MHz
both seems to be RAdeon 8800 properties
Temperature 49°C ( which is not the temperaure for intel HD4000 given by CPUID Hardware Monitor).

So is it just a bug of GPU-Z or there is a mistake on "who is the iGPU and who is the dGPU?"

GPU-Z messes this up somehow. It only detects the iGPU as being active. Just run a game or benchmark and if the performance is ok you can be sure its the 8870m running, regardless of what monitoring programs say.
