np880z5e-s02uk will it support 4k extended monitor ? Will it degrade any 4k resoution after connecting to laptop through hdmi?

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work but no owner of this notebook has provided definite confirmation.
Unless you are using Windows 8.1 support for different display scaling for different display devices you will, however, either need to use an extended desktop or turn off the internal monitor in order to get the full 4k resolution.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled AMD Catalyst and drivers (14.9...?) and still everything defaults to Power Savings. -
I'm having trouble downloading the SW Update from http://orcaservice.samsungmobile.com/SWUpdate.aspx. The server doesn't seem to respond every time I try.
Does anyone know an alternate place where I can download the drivers, or share them for me? -

GPU accelerated encoding:
Strange situation here. I haven't tried converting files in months and now when I go to convert an mkv to an mp4 with either handbrake or Skysoft Videoconverter Ultimate, the conversion takes an hour for a 1GB file where it used to do it in a few minutes. This is in Windows 8.1 with the default Radeon drivers that Samsung provides. It appears that the AMD GPU is no longer being used to accelerate the conversion. Is anyone else converting video and finding terribly slow speeds? Any suggestions? -
That said, an hour sounds like too long time to encode 1GB of MPEG4 on an AB8 (even with Handbrake, which I remember as notoriously slow). And a few minutes sounds like too long to just remux 1GB. So maybe something is wrong indeed.
Have you tried converting the same videos as you did before (if you still have them) with the same conversion parameters (if you remember them)?
If other programs and/or games work alright with OpenCL, it's really up to Handbrake and Skysoft to just make use of it. Is there a log after conversion that shows whether they used GPU acceleration? Any options to tell them whether to use it?
Sorry, that's all I gotShrink likes this. -
could anyone help me out - I need to revive my computer as the system seems to be badly affected by viruses. Antiviruses cannot find anything, and what is worse - system restore fails. I am currently running a Samsung SSD and did previously backed up my system to a flesh drive as recommended in this forum. The question is - how should I use this flesh drive to recover the system?
I hope I will not lose my documents and programs, but if there is no other way - well, I am ready for that too, but just do not know how to use the flesh drive - please help!!
-
This will completely re-image your SSD, wiping any programs and data you have, so make sure to create backups first of anything important (preferably two backups on different media so you have a fallback in case one should fail).
If the USB flash drive should fail to work (as has been known to happen) I hope you still have your original HDD with Recovery intact -- although I realize it is a pain having to put it back in.
Edit: Depending on how you installed onto the SSD, you may also be able to use Windows' Refresh feature (somewhere in the Charms Settings menu). But there is no guarantee it will clear the malware, particularly if it's a rootkit. -

Hi,
Have anyboby tried to install windows 10 on the NP880Z5E?
Best regards -
I'm hoping someone can help me here as I'm at my wits end. Somehow and for some reason, the CPU has started underperforming, as if it thinks it's constantly unplugged. This is having a major effect on my work as I need the CPU to be running well, and it's clearly not! What I've tried;
- Changing CPU power settings in the BIOS
- Changing the power plans in Windows
- Modifying individual settings of the power plans to ensure 100% CPU
- Ensured the Samsung ECO CPU thing is turned off
None of these are working!! If I unplug the machine and do my work (Cubase), the CPU gets overloaded very quickly. When I plug it back in, the CPU load doesn't change, so it's either oblivious to the fact that I've just plugged it in (it still charges and detects it) or there is a setting somewhere preventing it from using all the CPU. Whatever it is it's driving me nuts!
Please help! -

Samsung nowhere mentions the performance side-effect of enabling this mode and it's made worse by Samsung dropping the on-screen displays of Fn key action that used to happen with Windows 7 versions of the software.

If that is the case, it should affect others who use OpenCL for non-gaming purposes. Member Obyboby has been using AutoCAD for 2D work on his AB8, which is a similar situation. He had problems will stability of AutoCAD -- but it used the AMD alright.
@Obyboby, if you happen see this: Are you able to verify somehow that AutoCAD actually uses the AMD instead of the Intel GPU? Did you have to configure it in Switchable Graphics in order to do so?
-
Sure, I can check that. Just need to find out how to do so xDDannemand likes this. -
Ugh, after 2 years of owning the Series 7 Chronos, the device finally suffered its first injury. I accidentally dropped my backpack, and the bag somehow fell sideways and smashed the laptop on its side. Now the chasis is all cracked and bent. Any methods of fixing this? Having a gap right next t the charger doesn't seem very safe...
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Otherwise, the voltage at the power socket on the computer is only 19V so it won't hurt you. Dropping liquids or metal objects through the gap, however, could have undesirable side-effects.

Anyway, today I wanted to tweak my laptop a bit so I re-installed MSI Afteburner and followed the tutorial at the first page to overclock past the normal speeds allowed by the tool. I am now testing 900/1300 MHz since 925/1330 made the video driver crash.
It looks ok, but under AutoCAD the mouse lags a bit. Sometimes it slows down and I still don't get why it does... RivaTuner Statistic Server shows an average FPS speed of 60-70 FPS (if that even matters on such a program). Sometimes it drops to 25 FPS but the "mouse lag" seems to occur while the framerate is high. It might be because of the polling frequency for the FPS, but I'm trying to see if I can fix that permanently. -

@Shrink: Regarding that problem of Skysoft and Handbrake using the Intel GPU for video encoding instead of the AMD:
Based on the recent reports from members Obyboby and zooster, it seems confirmed that Enduro Switchable Graphics does indeed kick in as expected when AutoCAD uses OpenCL. My guess would be that the AMD Profile List already knows about AutoCAD, but doesn't know about Skysoft and Handbrake. I realize you already added the main executables as High Performance under Switchable Graphics. Probably the actual encoding takes place in a sub-module which is loaded in such a way that Enduro doesn't detect it. I am afraid I don't have any other suggestions than to try adding more modules and see what happensShrink likes this. -
Hmm, i was wondering why's battery dying after about 4,5h. Well if i ran HWi64 i saw Cycle count 145 and wear level 19%. It's about 1 yr old notebook, so that could not be right right!? Should i turn it into service? Or just try to let drop battery bout 70% (less/more?) then charge it, like so few times... if it's an option at all? and then do the battery calibration (or vice versa)
Im running on power saver, battery lasted 8-9h before, showing me 7:02h at the moment on 92% and the drop was 4% since the beginning of writing the message here. I mean its dischargeing littlebit fast :/
Any suggestions? -
If i'm not wrong, i fixed this mouse lag when I used that AMD Enduro fix tool. Then I decided to OC and mouse lag started occuring again.Reinstalling amd enduro fix doesn't solve the issue.. damn

Hi everyone!
I'm having a little issue with Catalyst control center!
when I right click at the desktop and choose properties, nothing is happening.
I've tried reinstall drivers and remove every ATI / AMD folders.
I've tried install modded 14.9 and orginal 14.9, HwInfo shows Intel 4000 as GPU.
Any suggestions on how to fix this??
NP880Z5E
upgraded with SSD and 8GB ram
Thanks! -
Hello everyone.
I have a NP880Z5E standard 1gb 5400rpm HD and 8770m 1gb with 8gb memory. I previously had the version before this one with the CD drive and I believe it had a metel bottom as this one is plastic on the bottom.
I have had my NP880Z5E for over a year now.
I have read and kept up with this forum for as long as I can remember.
I have been wanting to post on this forum for a very long time.
Daniel206rc seems to need some help and even tough I feel like I can help him I'll let maybe one of the others here try to help him because I'm in some need of some help of my own also by my issue my not be as big as a deal of his but I really want to explain my issue and drama as it may not be that big of a deal but I really do not want to carry on and not say anything on here when I come here so much and read so much as I try to do the same like over at Guru3d mainly dealing with graphics but judging my progress being made with this notebook I don't think I have done very well.
I don't know how I would really judge my progress other than feeling comfortable and i'm uncomfortable with my ativ book 8.
I know my post may be long one but I pray and hope it's doesn't bother any of you and hopefully maybe 1 or more of you can help me with my issue becuase all I can do is ask kindly and explain my situation.
1st I'll give a rundown on what I have installed and how I have it installed 2nd and so on I'll explain what I have unistalled and any reason I have to and as to why i have not updated anything past point as what I have it at now and I what I have planned to do and try to do and keep trying to do and hope this is an issue maybe that can be solved here and by not contacting samsung because I feel that my issue isn't any real issue to note as I'm assuming my all hardware is in good condition so to speak of.
1st I have win8 installed without any updates
I have version 9.3.5 installed of the amd video card driver without CCC being instaled only the manager and the driver is installed
my intel gpu driver is up-to-date with the SW updater as is my amd driver is just without all the CCC
I have intelllimem thing unistalled as this was my 1st real world issue that drove me insane with making everything seem slow and using up a ton of memory so it seemed. Because I like for everything to be istant and snappy with very quick response it seemed that unistalling that fixed my unresponsive issues with hope that you all understand.
I only want to point out what I believe is most important so I will not mention anything else.
The thing I ask is should I update Win8 and update to 8.1?
What about my video card driver/s? Anytime I go past 9.3.5 it's seems I loose FPS...
I also want to note that I used to have win8.1 installed with everything up-to-date but I did not have intellimem unistalled so without really knowing by having that uninstalled would solve my lag issue like with responsiveness I reverted back to win8 starting all over and making sure the 1st thing I do is uninstall that intellimem thingy.
I also want to make a note to you all that I have recently back off my resolution, the display I have my ativbook 8 hooked to can display 1920X1200 and the game I play seemed to always crash sending me to my desktop at that resolution. So I backed down to a res thats (what ever) X 1050.
I'm affraid to up date anything, i'm affraid to install anything for reasons of loosing fps i would only want to gain fps not loose any.
I am willing to explain more if anyone is willing to try and heklp me out or maybe someone or one of you kinda know what I'm going through.
I would like to do more and have steam installed and play more games.
I like my ativbook 8 I'm just unsure whats best for it. Anytime I do anything wrong all I want to do is reset it and start all over with making sure my priorty is unistalling that intellimem program.
I do not have the fastest bandwidth and I can't stand to wait for my 1 most important game to be re-downloaded, so the last time I reset my ativbook 8 I backed up my game to another PC of mine then after the reset I got my game files back from the PC I becked them up to and place them in the right directories but not actually installing the game so it does not show in "programs and features" or how ever it is called.
I'm unsure what is best, it takes days to download everything maybe not days to up-date windows but to re-download my game and thats me not using my bandwidth with other devices as I would like to do.
I have said a holy world of a lot but I could say more and explain more but to some things up I doubt myself for doing a good at that.
It starts with 1 game thats most important to me then wanting to have everything up-to-date running win8.1 with the latest greatest amd drivers possible. Then to make sure the 8770m is being used, then how and why any trottle down instance may occur. That goes with trottle down CPU, trottle down GPU and so on like if the intel gpu is being used along side the amd gpu at the same time and too much heat is involved so a trottle down of the CPU may occur and following the trottle of the GPU or which ever may occur 1st if any of that really matters.
I have added some rubber boots by the factory boots that helps raise the laptop off any surface righer than usual hoping that helps the airflow better flow from under the laptop to OUT the back.
Can anyone help me please? Like I said, I really like this laptop and it's currently the most powerful PC I have. I have the latest BIOS and in some casses or in any case what does the turbo option do in the bios? I believe I'm correct by saying having the turbo boost disabled in bios helps out.
While i'm playing my game my CPU runs at 3.17-3.15MHZ unless it's trottled then it goes to 2.25MHZ or 2.75MHZ or even 1.25MHZ which ever it feels the need to run at to keep it's cool I guess. Is my laptop damaged? Why does it not run at 3.40Mhz? thats enough for what I'll say for for now but can any of you help me please? -
Shouldn't be too hard. These aree the steps I recommend taking:
1. make backup of important files in case something goes wrong (99.9% sure it won't go wrong)
2. Let windows update itself to 8.1. You won't lose data/programs .
3. Install latest WHQL drivers (check post #1 for instructions) -
I'll see what I can do, my steam library is not big at all, so I do want to add to that. My main and biggest issue is something I guess I solved just the other day. If any may understand what I have been going through it had everything to do with too much heat I guess. Whenever everything would get too hot CPU and GPU would trottle down to limits that i simply was not comfortable it or atlease for the game I play, I couldn't really enjoy what I wanted to at those limits.
Well anyway I noticed a no-brainer, if I set the fps limit cap in my game, it really seems that my whole ativ book 8 stays cooler and does not get too hot. So yea i'll do what I can to update back to 8.1 and all but I feel like I have let my ativ book 8 get too hot and I feel the need to re apply the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU heatsinks. -
Some of you may be wondering how to bypass the "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer" error encounter when attempting to install the latest Intel Graphics Drivers. Here's a little tutorial:
1. Download the zip version of the latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for your version of windows from: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=&ProductID=3711&ProdId=3711
2. Extract the zip archive
3. Open a command prompt with admin privileges (win 8/8.1: go to search -> type "cmd" -> right click on "Command Prompt" and select " Run as administrator"
4. In command prompt change to the directory where the zip archive was extracted, i.e for myself I would type: cd "C:\Users\Stephen\Downloads\win64_153330"
5. Type: setup.exe -over4id and follow the setup wizard as usual.
6. You're done! You've now bypassed the validation error.
Notes: The "-over4id" works by forcing the installer to overwrite a 4ID format driver (vendor ID, device ID, subsystem id, revision number) with a 2ID driver (vendor id, device id). Essentially it replaces an oem driver with the latest driver from intel. -
Hey guys, I think I may have rather high temperatures when running games on my lappy. It's a 8870 one so I don't expect it to run at 65 degrees when gaming, but it easily rises to 75-85 degrees on normal games (like league of legends) and I think the record was 97 degrees with BF4. And when I touched the metal air vent, I can tell you it was pretty freakin hot, couldn't hold a finger. No, I'm not gaming on my lap or in my bed.
This machine is relatively new (half a year maybe), so dust and other stuff is out of the question. I've opened it on several occasion, everything looks clean and clear, including the fans and the sinks. I don't like these temperatures, because my CPU starts throttling at about 75 degrees, when it wouldn't go above 2.4 GHz anymore, despite the performance settings. And some demanding games could really use that extra 700 MHz.
Do you have the same temps, people? If not, what do you think may be causing this? I really hate thermal throttling, and I don't wanna cook on my laptop either. -
lowspace I really don't know much to say other than please run your a game with an FPS cap active. Please do so because it seems when I started running an fps cap it's really keeping my temps much lower I would assume even tough I have not checked them here lately.
I also want to add letting you to know and this may raise some of your eye brows but I have easily reached CPU temps in access of 104c and 105c I have a 8770m and as I do not remember my GPU temps back whenever but I can tell you they was very high.
stevester thank you! That's that kinda stuff I look for I did just what you said and it worked! Thank you again! -

If you installed an SSD, you probably want to swap in the original HDD before you send it in, just to make sure Samsung won't say you voided your warranty. In any case make sure you backup your data and wipe anything sensitive before sending it in. -
hmm.. has anyone updated latest AMD Drivers & Intel ones.. After spending 2+ hours, i managed to get both installed and working correctly, but with a flaw.. no matter what i did the brightness would break, and i could not get any control of the brightness unless uninstalled Intel 4000 drivers. Now, i went back to swupdate default graphics drivers, and i still cannot get Windows brightness to function at all. I could of swore there was a Windows 8.1 brightness patch more than 8 months ago, but that is no where to be found..
This will probably be my first and last samsung laptop, and last notebook with AMD graphics. I might even sell this and look for a nvidia maxwell based ultrabook and take the loss. I just cant understand how its been over 2 years and still no official driver support.
Has anyone been successful downgrading to WIndows 7 and was there any issues with the same drivers? -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...tness-patch-program-stand-alone-download.html
And yes I am running the latest intel and amd drivers. To install the latest intel drivers without error follow my tutorial I posted here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...780z5e-np870z5e-np880z5e-519.html#post9827425
Amd driver installation is very straighforward, just install the intel drivers first. Hope that helps! -
Many many many attemptes. Clear system, first ATI, second Intel, first Intel, second ATI etc etc etc.... Brightness patch sometime work, till third or next reboot. If you will decide to update IntelME - you video become work with mistakes. First - brightness control will die. Second - switchable graphics became not switchable. Very poor support from samsung. Only oem drivers work. All other as lucky. Notebook for dummy. Buy and dont touch.

Little update about my pic, thats how looks dead matrix. Waiting warranty service to change.

Thanks for the guide, stevester! You wrote to install the Intel driver first, so when I want to update my Intel driver now, should I uninstall the AMD, install latest Intel then install AMD again!? I'll have to figure out where to get my AMD's version again, I remember trying four or five different ones until I got this one ...

Hi, does anyone know where I can find a guide/video for the series 7 NP780z5e to do a screen replacement? I've been looking and all I've found is the guide/videos for the older series 7. I think my screen's connection is loose because I have a section of the screen that is all black but when I tilt the screen or put pressure on the glass at the base of the screen, that part of the screen is restored until I let go. I would like to find out how hard it is to fix myself. Thanks!

The manual might provide gaidance about what this part is and how it fits. Many of the newer displays use glued bezels because they are too thin for screws.

Guys, I need to swap my desktop and laptop's SSD as I would like the 512 GB in my desktop and the 256 GB in the laptop.
The 512 GB, which is currently installed in the laptop, has those precious recovery partitions included. I would like to make sure that they are transfered into the 256GB that I will use. How can I do that?
