I used a plastic tool intended to pry open iphones. You could use a plastic knife and slowly work it around. Start at the front and work around the sides from each side. DON'T start at the hinges. I put a small crack in my case. $105 to replace the lower bezel - fortunately it is only a small crack but it was a Homer Simpson moment for sure. Once you get it off, you will see how easy it is to get the hang of. Also, when you put the screws back in, be careful not to overtighten and strip the threads. Good luck!

Can you guys play bf3 on ultra settings like this guy?

FWIW, I used an iphone lever tool to pry mine open and it only took 10 minutes. -

It is a very small Phillips. Can't recall the # size but if you buy one of those sets that have a variety of tiny screw driver heads, you'll findnthemright one.

Does anyone know the changelog of new P04ABU bios? Improvement, impressions?

On ATIV Book 6 right now.... having major issues with getting the 8770m to run properly. Games that I assume should be working well, (SC2, DOTA 2, others) just chug along. SC2 runs at like 5 FPS on high, which doesn't seem normal to me...
I have the drivers updated and have tried reinstalling multiple times. Silent mode is also off... not sure what else to do. All the games I play are listed as high performance in catalyst as well. -
Hi,
My new Samsung Ativ 8 (880z5e-X01AU) arrived, and separately, a Samsung 840 (250Gb) SSD.
I want to install the SSD, however I am a little confused as to one aspect of the Windows cloning process.
There are two ways to clone Windows 8 onto the SSD that I can see.
Method 1 is to use the Samsung Recovery tool, via a USB to SATA cable.
Method 2 is to make a windows boot disk (or USB stick), install the SSD and boot into windows via the boot disk.
Apparently Method 2 is better as it is a clean install. So wanting to follow method 2, I am not sure if I also need a Windows 8 DVD to formally install the software once I have booted up via the boot disk, or if everything I need is on that boot disk, and anything else can just be downloaded? The laptop of course did not come with a Windows 8 disk as it was pre-loaded!
I also read I should update all drivers etc before installing the SSD, but if I go to the Samsung site no drivers are listed for my model (in fact the model does not appear in the list at all). So do I need to search each driver by manufacturer, or do I assume no other drivers are needed (I used Samsung SW Update to update software, but not drivers)?
Thanks for any help! -
Thanks! -

Hi,
can i ask for help ?
my new samsung series 7 chronos NP770Z5E-S01SG with AMD HD 8800M cannot run a game only with High Performance mode ..it says " device driver stopped responding and has recovered" .
i've tried many ways like:
-upgrading driver into 13.6 beta2
-using leshcat newest driver and WHQL driver
-turning off PCI Express
-Registry TdrDelay.
but those all didnt work at all , i still cant play in high performance , i got 44-60'C temp . and i think its normall .
anybody got solutions for this ? -
Hey Lads, does anyone think the laptop will be updated with the 4th Gen Cores still? I am beginning to doubt they will as there was no discussion regarding it at the Galaxy and Ativ keynote
I need a laptop bad, would you say this is the best we'll get with this generation of Series 7 Chronos?
-
I bit the bullet (see my above post) and so far happy I did. While this laptop with Haswell and 802.11ac would have been my perfect pc, I just could not see any information an update of any description was imminent. -
-
Bios update is now working for me. It didn't a few days ago, but I just tried again. Just FYI

Okay I got myself the Ativ Book 8 (w/touchscreen) and I've got to say I'm really happy with it. Also, I don't have any of the problems people have mentioned with drivers etc. it just works. When I received the laptop it was painfully slow though, so I got an SSD (Samsung 840 250GB) put it in (which was quite easy), installed a clean windows 8 on it and ran the Samsung SW update utility for the missing drivers (not all of them, some are useless). I admit, the GPU could do better but I know it's because of the outdated driver and I'll just wait for a non-beta driver before I update as I can play most games at 1080p on high anyway (Tomb raider, BF3, etc.) Overall its lightning fast now and hardware-wise it's just top notch (build quality, screen, etc.).

just for curiosity can you do a survey on which laptop have we bought? 770z5e 780z5e 870z5e 880z5e??

770z5e is a 2013 model, so start at the front. -
WD Passport / Passport ultra = virtually the same, though I don't think the Ultra version is available as a 2TB version, only 1TB. WD Software is basically just backup software, pro or standard doesn't make a lot of difference, just slightly different functionality, most of which you will most likely never use! -

Regarding the WD drives, just make sure that whatever you get has a USB 3.0 interface (which is backwards compatible with USB 2.0).

SW Update (and Easy Software Manager before it) really makes clean install a snap on these Sammies. By far the biggest hurdles are related to getting Win8 install media, what to do with partitions and whether to use UEFI or BIOS mode.
Please don't feel we're attacking you, Kira. It's all about getting the right information out to members, that's all -

If you have cloned your HDD to an SSD with F4 (either using Disk Copy or using a bootable USB Recovery backup) I would recommend you just use Refresh to get rid of the bloat.
In any case do you end up with a clean Windows. This post lists which drivers you then want to install using SW Update, which you want to install manually, and which to avoid altogether. -
Sorry for the probably obvious questions, I am trying to get my ducks in a row before I start. -
If you DON'T have install media, you have to use some kind of cloning or recovery backup to get Windows onto a new SSD (I presume that's what you're asking).
1) You can use a 3rd party tool to clone the HDD to the SSD (Acronis or similar). Just know that Recovery will NOT work on the cloned SSD. The Recovery partitions will be there, but F4 won't work. So make sure you keep the original HDD safe. If you want to use the original HDD as external drive, make sure you don't touch those Recovery partitions. In that case you can delete the Recovery partitions on the SSD to reclaim the space.
2) You can use the Disk Copy feature in Recovery (F4) to clone your HDD onto an SSD connected as an external USB drive. This WILL preserve a working Recovery on the new SSD. If you have limited SSD space, you may delete those Recovery partitions on the SSD once you have Windows running smoothly (and backed up). Again, if you do delete them, make sure you keep the original HDD safe.
3) You can use Recovery (F4) to create a Bootable Factory Image backup on a 32GB USB stick. It is a self-contained backup of your Recovery software as well as the Factory Windows 8 installation image. It is the closest you will get to proper install media from a Samsung Win8 PC. After swapping in the SSD, you can boot this USB stick and use it to partition and install Win8.
All of these approaches will be cloning your factory installation with full bloat. So use Refresh followed by the driver installation steps as previously described in order to get a lean Windows installation.
This subject is covered extensively and repeatedly in this thread (including in the opening post). I advice some searching and reading to understand the details. Follow the links -- NOT the White Rabbit -
Two days ago a friend of mine poured his beer right into my keyboard while it was still powered on. I turned it off immediately and held it upside down to let everything drip out of it (Oh the horror). Needless to say I nearly had a heart attack and found it really hard to stay nice to him
.
A few hours later I had the courage to power it on again and everything worked! It only emitted a beer smell. Now, 2 days later, everything still works perfectly. I'm really happy with this laptop, definitely after it survived something like that. I still don't recommend anyone to pour anything on his chronos/ativ though
.

Difficult to stay calm in a situation like that. Even more difficult to pad your friend on the back and tell him not to worry, it will be fine.
I'm glad it worked out well in the end -- though that beer smell may stay with you for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if John has some suggestions for how to wash and dry it. He's a wizard with things like that. -
I'm glad it still works pranktank, that must of been really unnerving to go through!
Anyway, I'm wondering if the only way to go back to Windows 8 from windows 7 since I downgraded, is to recover from Samsung's backup software? Because I didn't use Samsung's software -
Alternatively, if you have Win8 install media, you can use that to make a clean install. UEFI/GPT or BIOS/MBR should both work fine (with slightly different feature sets). -
Hi Folks,
Just confirming that the Ativ Book 8 Australian Variant has 8GB soldered on and a free RAM slot.
Here's a screen shot: imgur: the simple image sharer

I think that the best solution is a fresh install, because with copy or cloning windows doesn't know there's a ssd so the system won't be optimized for it. Instead if you make a fresh install windows should auto detect the ssd making right changes and optimizations while installing. Otherwise after a cloning you should use Samsung magician tool to optimize the whole system for new ssd, but I still think it's always better a fresh install.
The only thing I'm not sure about, is the downside of this procedure beside the boring longer process to set the whole system up. -

A side-effect of the separated keyboard design is that it is no long easy to remove the keyboard for cleaning (ideally a good soak and then thorough drying): The keyboard on this model is integrated into the keyboard surround / palm rest and complete disassembly is required to get this unit out.
If the beer didn't penetrate properly into the key mechanisms then it may be possible to wash off more of the remaining dregs by holding the computer upside down and wiping the keyboard with a wet sponge with a little liquid detergent - the objective being to wash the keys without the water penetrating to the electronics. However, it's not something that I have tried. My first rule of computer usage is to keep drinks away.
