Can someone tell me what frame rates do you get in games like: World of Tanks, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and which drivers are you using? Im getting kind of low frame rates. for World of Tanks min/avg/max - 39/50/80 everything turned of and low. GO: 60/74/100, everything turned off and low using 13.25 drivers. Doesnt feel right.

Thats because the pc is using the hd4000
you cant use anything beyond this driver: AMD_Catalyst_13.10_Mobility_Beta.zip - Solidfiles

Install that and it will fix your problems

    Way more.
Dude read the first post on the thread. It says which drivers to use.
The ones u got installed dont have switchable graphics, so it only uses the HD4000, thats why ur frames suck

Has anyone gotten Windows 8.1 to work on the NP780Z5E? What special steps (if any) did you take to make sure it worked correctly?

I went to BB to see if the low spot on the bottom was 'normal'. They said to check the display model for any marks. I looked at the display model that showed the feet were worn, but the spot on the bottom like on mine wasn't there. I exchanged it and looked at the new one. It appeared to be flatter. I thought I could see daylight under the bottom when placed on a flat surface, but when I got a better look at it at home, it did indeed touch in the same spot near the vent hole. So I guess this is 'normal' and explains why they didn't use metal on the bottom, and why some report this thing runs hot. The feet on this thing are pretty useless. They are slick and too short to allow the proper about of air to flow to the intake vents for the 2 fans. Also while they are oval shaped, only a thin band across the middle contacts the surface because it is rounded instead of flat. I found some rubber sheet stock with adhesive on the bottom at work. I cut some rectangles and stacked them to get the proper height and stuck them near the existing feet. Problem solved.

I have the NP770Z5E-S01UB, and it has the same issue. Just a small bulge area that rubs whatever surface it is on. It hasn't bothered me.

I like your solution. I'm going to see if I can't find something similar myself. I've always wondered if there was enough elevation at the back to provide sufficient airflow under the unit to feed the fans.

    Hello everybody!

    Look what I found:

    Samsung ATIV Book 8 870Z5G

    39.6 cm (15.6"), 1920 x 1080 non-glare
    Core i7-4702MQ 4x 2.20 GHz (3.20 GHz Turbo), 8 GB RAM, 1.0 TB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2.0 GB

    Link (German Store): Samsung ATIV Book 8 870Z5G X01 W8.1 (Art.-Nr. 90539852) - Notebooks / Laptops - computeruniverse

It is the Haswell refresh, nvidia and it seems that it will be availible in black in Germany (until now we only had the silver one here in Germany)...I Think that will be my new notebook :)

Nvidia 750?? CPU newer but slower. What a downgrade..! And it doesn't even have new 3200 panel.
I would better stick to 8870m more powerful model...

yes the frequency of the CPU is a bit slower, only 4x2,2Ghz instead of 4x2,4Ghz, but the new Haswell Generation is faster than the Ivy Bridge. I looked up some benchmarks at Mobile Prozessoren - Benchmarkliste - Notebookcheck.com Technik/FAQ
When you look at them, then you will see that those two CPUs are very similar, I made a table for comparison:

    Benchmark_CPU.JPG

And the 4702 has a TDP of 37 Watt, the 3536 has 45W.
The 4702 has the better integrated GPU IntelHD 4000 vs. 4600.

And Yes the nvidia 750 is slower but i am not a gamer, so thats no problem for me and when I read the problems with the ATI AMD Drivers then i think i will be happy when i hopefully wont have any Driver problems with the nvidia.

    Last point: The color
Here in Germany the "old" NP870Z5E is only available in silver, the new 870Z5G seems to be black :)

But it will take some weeks till the new model will arrive in the shops, some shops say ~4 Weeks.

I am curios about the new 870Z5G.

sorry, I did not see that. Thanks for the information!

I'm thinking of getting the same SSD and doing a fresh install in the next few months.

    Any tips, guys?

Re: 5) What version is the latest AMD drivers with brightness that works for this notebook?
I can confirm that ver 13.251.0.0 works great for the 8870m. I stayed with the original 9.17.10.2875 drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 4000 as the system simply refuses to allow me to install newer versions.

I believe the opening post contains most of the information you need. If you're installing WIn8 (or 8.1) I would stay with UEFI mode (make sure the new SSD is GPT) and if you you're installing Win7, I would suggest you switch to non-UEFI (CSM OS, make sure the new SSD is MBR). This clean install guide pretty much covers everything for Win7, and with notes for Win8 -- but not for Win 8.1 though.

I dont feel too impulsive installing 13.10 beta drivers. I know that graphics switching works as I have checked its utilization.

Once again can someone please post what kind of frame rates do you get in World of Tanks and Counter Strike: Global Offensive?

I'll have to say, I've tried these drivers and they show an actual speed increase. In Company of Heroes 2 I got an ave of 18.53 fps and 18.33 fps in two trials, where I got 17.6 fps on the Samsung drivers. They also don't lock apps to the 'power saver' like the Samsung install does in the switchable graphics settings. I'm going to try sticking with this one.

    Hi,

considering WoT, I usually get between 30 and 60fps with medium settings (improved graphics) when the AMD GPU kicks in and about 15 fps if not. Heavily depends on the map, the effects (being hit by Pz I C just stuns and freezes everything...) and the number of tanks in view, though; Sacred Valley with all that vegetation is slower than El Halluf :)

Didn't try the low settings and standard graphics; that is not what I bought this book for. WoT runs smoothly with medium+ settings, the GPU is fast enough.

    HTH,

May I ask the procedure you followed? I tried installing the file in the same way you did but my screen turned black and never came back, had to force reboot and reinstall old driver.

Yes, the vents get blocked if you close the panel, I would really recommend against doing so.

Did you uninstall the previous driver before installing the new one?

I uninstalled all previous versions of AMD drivers using the AMD Install Manager.

Then I deleted all residual AMD files with DDU and Driver Fusion to ensure all traces of the driver are removed.

If you have previously run the Leshcat exe, it should have extracted the new v13.251 AMD driver installer to "C:\Drivers\Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2\AMD\13.12\". Goto the folder and run the Setup.exe from there.

And in case anyone was wondering......... yes..... Switchable Graphics works for the 13.251.0.0 driver.

I connect the notebook to my LG TV to play PES 2014.

I have to leave the LCD panel open or it gets really hot after a while.

Widi doesn't work in Windows 8.1 with this laptop, it requires updated Intel graphics drivers which Samsung have yet to provide.

Also, as I understand it, Wireless display tech tends to be far too laggy for gaming. Certainly both Miracast and Airplay have been when I've tried them on other devices.

Yes, that's how I did it by uninstalling with the AMD install manager. I downloaded the full version, not the 'lite' one. I couldn't keep it from installing the Intel driver (v. 10.18.10.3304), but it was the same one I already was running, so I didn't think it would matter. I think the intel driver is also important to get to the desktop without a crash. I remember when I was setting it up from the box, everything didn't work exactly right until I matched up the updates from AMD and Intel drivers.
I got switchable graphics to work with most of the drivers I've tried from suggestions from this site while playing 3D games, but I didn't like seeing the lock symbol on a lot of programs. I should be the 'master' of the computer, not the other way around. I confirmed the switching with CPUz v 7.0. You have to use the 'sensors' tab to see the main and memory speeds. Also the temp sensor is a good clue. The 8770M is clearly being used.

    Hi,

I own the NP770Z5E model with the 5400rpm hard drive and hope that you don't consider it too cheeky that I joined this forum to request some assistance.

Specifically, I am struggling to manage the laptop's frequent bouts of high disk usage (around 100%), that occur approximately every 30 minutes or so.

For me the culprit appears to be superfetch, which, as soon as it starts, tends to cause disk usage to immediately rise to >90%, where it stays. Stopping the service results in the disk usage immediately dropping to <10%.

However, despite my best efforts, I cannot seem to permanently disable superfetch.

I stop and disable superfetch through services.msc and/or the registry (I followed the steps detailed here: Disable Prefetch, SuperFetch, And Windows Write-Cache Buffer Flushing - Can You Get More Space Or Speed From Your SSD?), but the service restarts after a few minutes (between 20-40 minutes) of use, or immediately following resumption from hibernation or windows lock.

When the service restarts in this manner, its start-up type returns to 'Automatic', even though I had previously set it to 'Disabled' (and restarted).

As a result, I tend to constantly monitor disk usage through task manager (and noise!) and manually stop and disable superfetch every half hour. As you might imagine, this became tiresome a long time ago!

I have no idea what might be causing superfetch to ignore my instructions and restart, and would welcome any support and suggestions from members here.

    Thank you

The 8770M shows a max temp of 70°C then the main freq. drops so the temps won't spike. I think overclocking the GPU is a bad idea because the cooling system is running to max already. You have the 8870 now, so why be greedy?

Did you uninstall 'Intellimemory'? That was putting me at 90% memory usage with 8GB. Delete this hog. Oops, you said disk not memory usage. I'll have to look for superfetch too.

Yes. NP770Z5E-S01UB was a Best Buy exclusive in the U.S.. I'm typing on it now. I believe that there was also a US model instead of a UB that was a essentially the same. I don't know about the NP870Z5E model though. I'm assuming that it was the 8870 model instead of the 8770 model. I would have preferred that one, but to my knowledge the only US model with an 8870 was a 17" model.

np780z5e-s01ub. all the latest drivers installed. my touchpad is driving my CRAZY!!!! It's awful. Sometimes it seems to work. Then, it just won't register input, or is inaccurate when only needing to move it a little bit. Have tried all the recommendations on optimizing - or at least I think I have. Can you send this in for warranty and get it fixed? Or is the hardware just bad in general?

Does anyone know what the turnaround time can be like for Samsung UK warranty repair?

My screen has a stuck pixel on there (along with image persistence) . I put up with the image persistence, it's been there since I bought my Series 7 Chronos from John Lewis last May. However, recently a pixel has stuck (its green) and whilst I don't notice it when I am working, when watching films it can be distracting.

I am hoping that this is grounds for a free repair under warranty.

Hey guys haven't been able to post in ages due to exams. I just wanted to mention this quickly: I read a long time back on this thread about pulling the power cord in and out to improve fps in bf4. This trick does wonders in counter strike global offensive and left 4 dead 2 and some other not very demanding games probably. It's really strange, the gpu usage is at a constant 99%, clocks at turbo and about 45fps so I thought that's all it can do. Then I pulled the cord out and put it back in and it jumped to 100fps. Same gpu usage, same clocks.

Well that's it, gotta study some more.

Repair turnaround should be less than a week provided the spare part is in stock.

You might do better to argue for replacement on account of the image persistence than the stuck pixel. Samsung's pixel policy for notebooks is hard to find (ie I can't find it) but they may argue that one bright pixel is not enough to justify replacement so I'd try the image persistence problem first.

I'm running windows 8.1 (I have the touch 880) and installed the latest touchpad driver and it made the touchpad unreliable, similar to you. I rolled back to the windows 8.0 driver and it is now working perfectly. Sometimes the latest drivers aren't an improvement.

    Hello!

I've got the NP770Z5E-S02SE which has several unresolved issues.

The biggest issue is its inability of activating the 8870M GPU. I think mine has a total power consumption of 0 watts counting from the date of purchase back in May 2013. In other words, I don't think it has ever been used.

Several abysmal results in 3DMark 11 and 3DMark13 triggered experimentation with new drivers, but my efforts have not resulted in any success. I've tried 13.10 (as linked in the OP) and 13.12, but all they have in common is making CCC unable to open. I have even done a factory recovery twice, then uninstalling CCC from the control panel before installing 13.10. As previously mentioned that didn't help at all because CCC remains unavailable.

Now I'm using 13.11 beta 1. CCC is available, but the driver doesn't seem to work. At the end of the install wizard this error message is displayed: "Driver Install: the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices".

I hope someone has suggestions to what I can do to fix this?

    3DMark11 score

If you go to the details of the 3DMark run, you can also see that the CPU did not OC at all during the tests. Most similar results (same CPU and GPU) show speeds of up to 3,4GHz, which is the turbo capacity of the i7-3635QM.

Is there perhaps a connection between my two problems?

EDIT: CPUID and HWMonitor64 do not recognize the 8870M GPU.
EDIT2: I have decided to delete the recovery partition, format the entire drive, and clean install W8 Enterprise x64.

    Hi tfid,

Memory doesn't appear to be problematic for me. However, I disabled intellimemory a few months ago in the unrealistic hope that it might help with the superfetch issue. Of course, it didn't :)

Check your power options.... Right click the Battery Icon on the task bar. Make sure it runs at 'High Performance'.

Download and install the Leshcat’s Catalyst 13.12 WHQL UnifL Driver.

Before installing new AMD drivers, You have to uninstall all previous versions of AMD drivers using the AMD Install Manager (Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs).

Then delete all residual AMD files with DDU and Driver Fusion to ensure all traces of the driver are removed.

Run the Leshcat exe, it should install the v13.251 driver for you. If there are problems installing, the exe should have extracted the new AMD driver installer to "C:\Drivers\Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2\AMD\13.12\". Goto the folder and run the Setup.exe from there.

To maintain the use of the brightness control, use the Intel HD Graphics 4000 (9.17.10.2875) drivers from Samsung's SW update.

I did all that but still got this error message: "Driver Install: the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices".

It does not seem like the driver is installed.

I got the same error after installing 13.10b, but for me all other's were Success and driver seems to work propertly, windows experience index giving me 6.9 for desktop and gaming gfx and 3Dmark11 gave me ~3400 on stock clocks. HWiNFOx64 does not show amd GPU apparently. I'm on win8 (not .1)
Tho i got another problem, can't install leshcat's 13.12rev1.2. I'm disableing driver signature, installing on stock win, non-amd driver installed, still wont install - so instead i stayed on 13.10b (maybe gotta try the driver fusion suggestion also)
Also, maybe someone with stock HD4000 driver +leshcat's 13.12 can run 3Dmark11 free test @ stock clocks and post the results :)

I tried a miracast device (rocketfish) and the lag was bad. I was trying to screen mirror a Nexus 7 tablet to a TV. I tried a bluray player with miracast support also. Both were bad screen mirroring solutions. I tried to run the widi app on the book 8 and it put up a message that said the program has compatibility problems so I uninstalled it. Do the wireless pro set drivers do widi? It would be cool to have a wireless display option. I like using the HDMI cable to a big screen TV, but to do it wireless would be the best.

The test was run yesterday after a HDD defrag.

Suggestion: Those having problems installing Leshcat's 13.12 AMD drivers., try uninstalling previously installed AMD drivers and clearing leftover files several times with DDU and Driver Fusion and rebooting...... Do this 4-5 times before installing the new driver.

I just wanted to say that YOU ARE THE BEST.

I have been experiencing the same troubles that you did. When I used VLC or Chrome, or both of them, the power consumption was extremely high. It bothers me because the CPU temps go high and it makes the vents work a lot... The main problem was that while on battery mode, It drained it a lot just to wach a movie or surfing the web.

I did your trick of changing the VLC.exe name, and change it to "Power saving". I also changed to Power saving a few more like Chrome, etc. After that, I almost don't notice the difference in the computer (as you say, the HD4000 its pretty good for movies and chrome....). Now, I get less than 10W of power consumption even with Chrome opened and playing a movie in VLC. Battery time has improved a lot and most of all, CPU temps are 10 or 15 degrees less so that I almost don't hear the vents...

Thank you a lot. This little trick should be posted on OP... It is maybe very simple for most of the users but I haven't thought about it...
