Off course you may. I use MSI afterburner. If you want a tutorial on unofficial overclocking, check post #1

I'd say don't spend money without researching ReadyBoost first. Again, I have no firsthand experience with it or how well it works. I don't know if it even retains cached files across reboots.
Edit: If you have insanely slow startup times, you should also test the disk for defects. If the system is re-trying to read sectors that have gone bad (even if they succeed being read eventually) that can dramatically slow down a computer.potato241 likes this. -
what did you do to get this high score? what drivers u use?
-
Nothing special except from OC. 14.3 beta from LeekM
-
When i try to run 3dmark with 925/1330 the test starts normaly, but after 7 seconds the screen freezes, but the music goes on, dahell is happening
-
It means you overclocked your gpu past its stability point. Every chip is different. Some gpu's can overclock further than others without crashing. (927 is the highest I got on the core without crashing, my previous 8870m struggled to stay stable over 900). Start lower at something like 900 or even 850 then work your way up doing stability tests until you can go no further without crashing the machine. Be sure to monitor temperatures.
If the system freezes, you can reboot it by long pressing the power button, I'm not sure if its healthy for your pc, but it works

Take a look @ the lenovo y50. It should be out soon and it adresses most of the issues that the y510p had.

Hey Pranktank, so i have a little newby question for u as i am totally unexperienced with it. Is it safe to overclock the card? and is all i need to know in the tutorial on the first page? and also will it benefit framrates? thanks
-
Hey everyone, really quick question, do the new Ativ 8 models also use the AUO9003 panel? Thanks

If you mean the NP870Z5G then it has its own thread.
Also read notebookcheck's review of this model. It says the panel is Samsung 156HL01-801.

Thanks
. Both your links point to the same forum though, just a heads up
-
i used tutorial on first page and yes, that is all you need. Is it safe? i dont think anyone can answer this, its overcloacking, i am trying it now and i dont see any problems yet
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Thanks for pointing that out. It was caused by a copy - paste malfunction (PBKAC to be precise).
I've fixed it in my original post.
John -
got score 3836 with 900/1200 OC
well i managed to go to 1330/920 and it didnt freeze, yaay -
Nice!, im a little scared to try it, but maybe i will do it sometime
-
it was my first time overclocking anything, but it went good, you just need to start a little lower

Hey guys
Has anyone encountered this issue of their 'Samsung Optimized' battery setting disappearing after a BIOS Update? Mines did and in place is 'test002' setting.(profile). Anyway the perfomance in this profile isn't as good as before, especially when gaming.
Is there anyway to get this back since I really preferred this one and High Perfomance doesn't really cut it for me. -
I don't think I've ever heard that before. Here is what I suggest:
1) Uninstall Settings using the Programs and Features control panel. Reboot.
2) In Windows Power Options, delete that weird profile (power plan) if it's still there.
3) Re-install Settings using SW Update. If your model has Battery Life Extender (NP770/780), you may want to find version 2.0.0.55 (under model NP880Z5E-X03CA) since the latest Settings versions (2.3.x) don't have that tab. Reboot.
4) Hopefully the Samsung Optimized power plan should be back. Redo any tweaks to the power plans and button/lid actions, since they are reset when re-installing Settings. In particular re-disable Adaptive Brightness in the various places (unless you like it). Settings and Charms-Settings-PC Settings are the most important. Do this both in normal mode and Silent Mode (since Windows stores it with each profile).
Hopefully that will restore everything to normal. -
It is not 100% safe. But if you make sure the gpu and cpu don't get too hot (lifting the back of the laptop a bit helps a ton, use programs to check the temps of both) and you don't touch the voltage there really can't go much wrong. The added heat can maybe decrease the life of the components a tiny bit.
The tutorial in post #1 is for more advanced overclocking, beyond AMD limits, but it explains all you need to know I think.
Framerates will improve. In some games I get 20% better framerates, in others only 5%. -
well installing that graphich update i posted a page ago was a mistake, my league of legends gets 25 fps
well i unticked the "enable more power saving" in cataylst and got 60 fps, but when i minimize game and maximize it goes back to low fps, strange -
Has anyone tried LeekM's newest modded 14.4 catalyst drivers for our laptop? I'm considering in trying out his drivers but am wondering if it is worth it or not to upgrade from 13.10 beta drivers.
-
Yes I noticed that bug too. Whenever I start a game like Thief or when it loads to a new level the framerate drops and it seems like the gpu is not being used to its full potential. The only way I can go back to 60 fps and make the gpu run at full usage is when I reapply Afterburner's 20% power limit option then maximize to the game again. I love this laptop but AMD and Samsung's lack of support is unacceptable since this laptop has so much graphics potential that is hindered by crappy drivers.potato241 likes this.

Same problem, you can also try unplug power cord and plug it back, or ALT + TAB to another app (somtimes help). In BF4 works for me combination FN + F1 every new map, screen flicker few times and fps are good whole round. Biggest problem i have in Reaper of Souls because there is lot of random fps drops.
-
-
maybe we should all start to annoy samsung to make new stable drivers
-
I had the same problem, you must do the following to instal the drivers.
go to C: program files (x86)/ common files/ InstallShield.... and there you change the name of the map Professional to professional.old
than you should be able to insall -
How's the system BIOS update (Ver P04ADH) going? is there any common issues after the update?
-
Guys, i was wondering, is it possible that the low fps im getting ingame can be due to the cpu not being on full performance, and i mean that in a deeper way, not power profile or slient mode or smth like that.
thanks) -
i had that thoughts too, it must be cpu since when we plug out and in and preformance is better
-
Thanks! That worked perfectly! You're a genius!!
-
As a matter of fact, my graphics were turning out to be pretty poor, and nothing would solve it, so i downloaded the 14.4 drivers from AMD themselves. It works perfectly with no problems, However this is personally so i don't know about everyone else.
-
By the way, referring to my last post, after i updated my graphics driver, Support Centre is showing me that i have an AMD R9 270X graphics card? Any idea why this is so?
-
-
The only common issue is that 8GB of extra memory might not be recognized anymore. It's difficult to say which brand of memory works after the update, but if you've extra memory installed it's better to stay away from this update.

You might be able to use Task Manager to track down which program is bringing up that window. I agree that it's not very helpful.

i installed leekm 14.4, now league of legedns flickers all the time, but if i set compatibility to windows 7 flickering stops, but fps is horible
-
Thank you for the update, great that it worked. Though I am not so sure about that last bit
I don't know what the heck that could be. Never seen anything like it. Is it only when you install graphics drivers, or any driver? -
only when i install and unistall graphich. Well i finaly got things working, i installed drivers from adm site, beta drivers 14.100.0.0 15.4.2014 and everything works like a charm, no more problems when minimize game, but i had to set power plan to samsung optimized
-
so u installed 14.100.0.0 15.4.2014 from amd site and it worked? with switchable graphics? non modded? i remember u had diablo 3 aswell right? what fps you getting there in fights? would be great if u could test that please, ive tried like very driver i could find and nothing helped, and i really dont understand how this wonder machine can fail at such a simple game
-
Ok, thank you for the update. Good job.
It generally is recommended to stay with the Samsung Optimized profile which is installed with Settings (Silent Mode toggles between it and Power Saver).
Many users switch to the High Performance profile; after all, who wouldn't want high performance? But it only provides marginal improvements in most cases -- at the price of permanently locking the CPU at max speed regardless of actual demand, using far more power and running much hotter.
The Samsung Optimized profile is similar to the good old Balanced profile in that it increases CPU speed as demand goes up. It may take a split second to ramp up, but in high demand apps (such as games) it will stay there as long as needed. And you can tweak Samsung Optimized as desired.
Edit: Samsung like to do things their own way, not the standard Windows way (or Android way for that matter). The following posts explain how power settings are generally handled on Samsung laptops:

Hi. I have a 770Z5E and would be grateful if you could help me with a couple of questions:
1.
I have installed the official 14.4 Catalyst WHQL mobility driver. It seems to work. The Cinebench R15 results are ok. Is there any reason to use a modified LeekM driver (e.g. because GPU switching does not work if you use the official driver)?
2.
My Samsung does not use Speedstep/Turbo anymore (i.e. the multiplier is always 12 and does not go up to 34). Therefore, the CPU frequency remains at 1200 Mhz. Cinebench results are terrible. If I manually increase the multiplier to 34 (using ThrottleStop 6), everything is fine and the benchmark results are good.
I would be grateful if you could help me to identify the reason for this issue: are there any BIOS settings (I am on the latest Bios) that may be the culprit? Could the Windows 8.1 x64 energy scheme settings be responsible? Could it be that I have installed the wrong chipset driver (I used SlimDrivers to update all drivers) and, if yes, what is the correct driver and where can I download it? Or is there any other possible explanation like incorrect Samsung settings (Ecomode or something)?
Thanks so much! -
Hi all
I'm an owner of the Samsung Serie 7 NP770Z5E
i'm following this thread since months, and did many of the tricks i've read here, but still i don't have a fully stable notebook
I've reinstalled from scratch windows 8.1 on a WD Black Drive (i did remove the factory hdd , replacing it with a WD Black ).
i've installed all drivers from the Samsung Update. The notebook is working but i have some problems (mainly glitches, and freezing) with stock drivers.
i've then tried to remove only the amd ones to replace them with leekm version, but when i press uninstall on the amd drivers, nothing happens (maybe because the Update program does not have anymore INTEL and AMD as separate installs, but only a Graphic Drivers install that installs both).
i tried DDU to remove them, with different results (from what seemed ok, to unbootable machine). But EVERY try ended without a switchable graphics option.
Before reinstalling, i was using leekm drivers (olders than those i'm trying now) that were working, but the machine, after playing a random amount of time (1-10 minutes) always freeze (music keeps running, hd keeps blinking, but video is stuck at last frame of the game).
I believed in Samsung (i have samsung tv, samsung phone, samsung blue ray, and even samsung washer.. but i'm really really disappointed in this 1200€ notebook i bought almost solely to play games...i learnt that this is what happens when i slip to the dark side ditching an nvdia in favour of thethe ati crap...

yes the official site amd drivers, they never worked idk why they work now as a charm. There is one issue thou, as someone before said in my device mananger ther eis R9 graphich now lol. and sorry i dont have diablo, only play league of legends and minecraft
ps: now its back to normal, fps problems when minimize and even when not, i realy dont understand why fps never works as it should with this powerful graphich, and still flickering when not setting compatibility to windows 7, but everything worked when i posted comment before, confusingpranktank likes this. -
I too have been using the AMD official drivers all along, since day one that I bought this notebook, the only issue I face is that sometimes it doesn't toggle the GPU, so what I did is I created a AutoHotkey script that switches the power plan, which in turns toggle the GPU properly (instead of having to unplug and power connector). Working wonderfully ever since.
And oh, my Windows 8.1 setup is more simplified, I installed all the Windows Update drivers with exception to the Realtek audio and AMD GPU. As for the brightness control, I changed the registry string "FeatureTestControl" values to "ffff" which brought back the brightness control (which is the exact changes that the Samsung Brightness Fix does).
I never had any issue other than the graphics switching which is solved by the AutoHotkey script I'm using. Playing D3, WOT, WOW, etc without issue.
Not sure why many are facing so much issues, perhaps sticking to Windows Update drivers made the big difference? I prefer stability over performance, no point having over the top performance in games but facing so much other issues...
-
U made it in Catalyst Control Center or in Windows Plan?
-
What are you referring to? The AutoHotkey power switching script?
-
So let me get this straight, the offical 14.4 or other offical ones, support the switchable graphics? and they do this automtically or is this manually settable still? I thought they gave all this up and thats the reason why we gotta use the modded drivers.
-
I've been using the official AMD mobility drivers and the only issue is sometimes the graphics switching doesn't work properly, thus my use of a AutoHotkey script to toggle the power plan which in turns automatically toggle the AMD GPU. worked fine on every game I have currently including Diablo 3 RoS.
So to me it is just a minor annoyance that is fixed by a mere press of a button to trigger my AutoHotkey script. -
Well when i check on what graphich is league of legends running, it says amd, but i still get 50 fps. Shinji can you share with us noobs how did you make auto key script?
-
I installed the official ones and they support switchable graphics. As a matter of fact though, and I dunno if anyone can tell me the reason for this, according to my PC system info, i have a AMD Radeon R9 M270X. Why is this?
