Hi,
I've just installed Windows 8 on my Samsung 700Z5A and also downloaded the new drivers and settings/quick settings from Samsung. In the new version for Windows 8 there is no option to turn off auto brightness control.
But it's always too dark for me and the FN brightness control keys have no effect on the display brightness, although I see the onscreen brightness slider going up and down.
Does anybody have a solution for this?
Thanks in advance!
Robert

I have exactly the same problem with my NP70Z3A..
EDIT: Perhaps it will work if you install the 'windows 7' version of Quick Settings as well. I uninstalled it, because I thought the new Samsung Settings did the same job. -

You can check through the Series 9 Windows 8 thread to see if anything there is relevant.

I don't think it's an optimal solution, but it works..
This is how I did it:
1. Uninstall the new Samsung Settings (don't know if it's necessary).
2. Install the old version of Quick Settings (rename the installer 'setup2.exe').
3. Reboot
4. Run Quick Settings in compatibility mode for Windows 7 with Admin rights. Turn off automatic light control.
5. Fn-keys works
EDIT: You'll have to install the new Intel graphics driver as well, but the installer will uninstall the AMD driver.. -
I have that problem as well. I found an intel driver that fixes the problem, This one, but what ive found is that every time i install any intel driver it uninstalls the ati graphics driver. Does anyone else have that problem?

I tried installing the AMD drivers (which are removed by the Intel drivers) again, and then the Fn-keys won't work. -
Anyone having this problem with the NVIDIA cards? Apparently all of you with the problem have the AMD GPU...

its the AMD for me as well, starting to wonder if i upgraded to win 8 to early. hope they fix this quickly.

Fn-keys is interact with Easy Settings or Settings (new), so if yours is not working, then try to reinstall the old software and use that until Samsung releases a new software. That does not have anything to do with graphic driver. About the driver, there is a couple problem. First is the driver Samsung used for AMD is Catalyst 12.9 with is pretty much old than the current 12.10. Second, it is not WHQL, which is can cause serious problem with Metro apps. Some videos apps will require integrity check and make sure that you have WHQL drivers consistently. Because of that, apps like Netflix won't run with this particular driver. Also the driver for Intel inside AMD driver is not WHQL too because it is a special driver that make for switchable graphics. The driver that Lassern provides is WHQL, but when you install AMD driver, it automatically replaces that with the one inside the package, so ultimately we don't have any WHQL drivers for graphic card.
However, there is a trick that you can have WHQL but only for AMD right now. Download the Catalyst 12.10 WHQL from AMD or some websites and then install it over the current version. You won't loose the switchable capability because AMD said that only 12.9 and up can support switchable with is now called Enduro. -
hmmm. 12.10 doesnt seem to work for me. I try to install it, but after it saids installation completed nothing happens. No restart or anything and change in driver version.

well it doesnt do anything. when i am installing it, it saids that all of the drivers are already up to date.

I followed this quick tutorial and it worked perfectly for my Series 9 with Windows 8... Maybe it's what you're looking for?
