Heres a list (in no particular order, although i might go through later and sort it into alphabetical) of games that work for me on a Samsung NC10 with Windows XP SP3.
If you want to know how to get games onto a machine that doesnt have a dvd drive then you can use something like magicdisk (freeware) to create iso images that can be transfered via network or flash drive. (or you can network your desktops dvd drive and install from there)
If you want to know how to play the games without the need for a disk - www.google.com
I seriously suggest that users who dont know how to get around disk requirements purchase compatible games from www.gog.com or www.steampowered.com
Some games on this list may require the use of a program called 3danalyze.

Thanks for the listing. I was recently curious what kind of games I could stick on my NC10 for on-the-go casual gaming. The list is quite helpful
Question -- how "lightweight" is MagicDisc/MagicISO? Aside from it being free, is there any reason to prefer it over something like Alcohol 120, which I've previously used? -
i dont have magicdisk running all the time in the tray, although the drive for the virtual drive is always on until i disable it at some point when im done transfering all my retail games across.
one thing i will note is that magic disk, and possibly magic iso aswell, is useless at creating iso's from copy protected disks. even ancient games like x-gold and mdk2 it has majors problems with.
which i suppose is the idea of the protection in the first place. but hey, thats discussion for another time.
i se no reason to really use magic disk if you already have alcohol. i simply use it because its freeware and i dont see any point in my buying a product like alcohol or magiciso that im not likely to use outside of my netbook.
glad you like the list and hope it makes your life a little easier when picking out which games to choose.
its not 100% as it doesnt list games i know do not work on the machine at all. ive tried lots of games that just dont like the machine at all.
probably the drivers being the big problem, or being integrated graphics at least. -
How did you get FF7 to run on the NC10?
Doesn't it require a ton of drivers so the game doesn't crash? Also, what do you do without a numberpad?
Also, does Warcraft 3 run smoothly without any hiccups? -

Thanks for this very helpful list. All I know is that Solitaire also works well, but there are others who want more of their NC10 and this provides an excellent resource.
John -
a good resource for ff7 related stuff...
http://www.ff7-universe.com/Download.html
i play the game with a joypad (as i do with FF8). but the number pad can be accessed using the Fn key + various keys on the keyboard i would have thought.
warcraft 3 runs. i only played a couple missions of the dark reign campaign and i didnt encounter any slowdown. if i recall i was using 800x600 (dont think the game goes any higher by default) and maximum detail settings. -
Warcraft 3 is only 15-23fps. 23fps is MAX, 17-20 is average (Dota). I tried Marvel Ultimate Alliance but there is a character display bug that I'm not sure whether is related to driver or not (and I'm not willing to reformat to try w/ a clean install).
-
Is 17-20 average frames per second considered smooth?
-
-
Isn't there a running man icon that can improve the performance of a program? Would that increase the frames per second?
-
warcraft 3 is not exactly a fast paced game anyway which requires lightning quick movements and reflexes.
The framerate dropping is much more noticeable on a shooter or something like Audiosurf where precise and perfectly timed movements are rendered almost impossible. However, again, where i think Audiosurf is unplayable others might not. Subjective. -
-
What about Civilization IV BTS? If that's too much, I'm sure FreeCiv would work.
-
apparently civilization 3 works very well, but i couldnt get it working for varying reasons. -
I quickly scanned the list to seek for any 'Civilization' entry to no avail. But tbh, all we could possibly hope for is the C3C - last expansion to the 'III' series.
Anyone caring to check it up for us - some strategy game lovers?
Cheers,
AdiQue -
some more games added to the list over the last few days.
-
I full heartedly recommend purchasing guild wars for some great(FREE) online action.

Would Age of Empires II work?
-
-
Anyone has a ready guide on how to create ISO files from game cd's and then install on NC10 using usb? Thanks.
edit: Never mind. Got it done -

I've been seriously considering buying an NC10 and AOE II is still my favorite game.
-
Here it is running GTA2, a SNES emulator and some other games that I'm not familiar with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV79CIkdLPM
Any word on how the pSX emulator runs? I'm talking games like Chrono Cross and FFIX.
This list should apply to similar netbooks like the MSI Wind and the EEE PC, as they have the same hardware. -
How does Dosbox work?
Anyone try Wolfenstein 3d xp version -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
wow san andreas and vice city thats decent those are still two fun games on on the go thats great
-
Thanks for the list! really helped me with my Asus N10
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
lol if you have an N10J you can probably play 4 times as many games as these
-
The 650$ netbook version with no video card. -
Wolfenstein 3d works more testing later.
Tried dosbox 0.72 and I got Harvester to show but, its really slow. Tex murphy games it asks for vesa driver. -

Hey thanks for the list.
I dunno if its been mentioned but if you're a fan of the x-com series you may want to try out "UFO alien invasion" its an open source version of the original.
http://ufoai.sourceforge.net/
There is also an open source port of Streets of Rage 2 out there, I've got it on my desktop but its busted atm and I cant remember the link. The game is pretty cool though.
Warcraft3 and its expansion are really good on this laptop, you can set up a custom resolution of 1024*600 by editing two registry keys but you will have to google the specifics.
I really wanted to get KOTOR2 running but no matter what I try i cant get it to run. Also sim city 3000 doesn't work for me as all the no-cd patches I have tried just crash the game. -
Oh crap you can play gothic 2 on the nc10??
One other comment is that I dont see the point of buying an N110 no difference at all except the trackpad being a little bigger + the glossy display (I love matte). -
Any screenshots of games on the NC10. How is the detail on the matte screen?
-
Will some of these games work better on the N120?
-
Netbook Confusion Notebook Enthusiast
Hi.
Has anyone made a list like this for the NC20?
Also, are there any websites where you can download (preferably free) some of the "classic" games such as Tetris?
Cheers. -

Will battlefield 2 run on the NC10 ????
-
American McGee's Alice runs very well on the NC10/N110, with everything on high.
-
-
Anybody knows if Battlefield Heroes or S4 League will run on this netbook?
both are free games! -
I'm really interested in getting this because of its price and portability, but the WoW thing has me stuck. I've seen videos on youtube of the framerates it gets when you're soloing and when you're in major towns, but I haven't seen any party videos.
How bad are the framerates when you party with a group in caves or instances? Is it playable? -
i have the nc10 with wow on it and i got 20 fps all on min settings on my own, i wouldnt go into an instance and want to be of any use as it is simply too slow
-
there are also a couple of other games that i have found will run well too.
Star Trek Starfleet Command.. Flawless
Star Trek Awayteam... Flawless
Star Trek The birth of the federation... Flawless
Sim City 4...Flawless
Commandos 3 Road to berlin... Flawless
Sid miers pirates... Flawless
Rome Total War... Flawless -
whenever i run starcraft, the screen flickers and sometimes alt/tabs itself back to desktop and when i return to starcraft, the colors are like.... purplish... something i haven't seen since 256color pallettes on windows 95 lol.
anyone edit their display properties settings? -
Has anyone tested Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) on NC10? Noticed that it's missing from the MMO section and am interested if I could run it on mine..and what do you think, should I upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM before trying to play it?
