My ATIV Book 6 laptop does not power up. The power-on light is OFF even though the power adapter is connected. The battery does not charge, and the charging light is also OFF. I pressed the battery reset button, but nothing resulted from this action. I would have expected the laptop to work even if the battery is not holding charge. What could be wrong?

I would suspect the power adapter, the cable between it and the computer (a risk if you are one of those tidy people who winds the DC cable around the PSU) or possibly the power socket on the computer. You will have to find another adapter in order to check this.

I would add that it not good for the battery if it is discharged and left without recharging.

    John,

    Thanks for your reply.

The power adapter seems to be working just fine... output voltage is 19 VDC... and I can see the same voltage on the motherboard. I just installed a new battery, and for a few minutes the charging light was ON, the laptop booted up and windows was waiting for a login... the power-on light was ON but dim compared to my HP laptop. I left it alone for a few hours to fully charge the battery. When I came back a few hours later the laptop was OFF once again... tried the power switch... and nothing happened.

At the battery connector I measure 2 VDC, which tells me that the battery is discharged.

    Any other thoughts?
