    Hello all

I've recently swapped the HDD on my ATIV Book 8 (NP880Z5E) to a Samsung EVO SSD
Did that due to a HDD Failure
Due to that, I could not have created the restore partition properly.

I Installed a non OEM windows edition, since I could not get my hands on an OEM version.

Ever since, my notebook only sees the 5 GHZ network band
Which is a problem, since these are not plenty around my part of the world
Also, I recently got a modem/router which does not have a 5 GHz band - so basically I am screwed.

I've tried every solution there is, on this forum included.
Searched the web, as well as contacted local support which basically told me to pay up.
I am quite tech savvy (not much of a networks expert, though) and I was wondering whether there's some solution I somehow missed?

Help would be so much appreciated!
    Thanks guys!

Have you installed Samsung SW Update? If not, do so as it will give you access to the Samsung drivers / software. One of these is Samsung Settings which might possibly include some WiFi controls although I would have expected that the standard WiFi driver woud work OK.

Otherwise you will have to dig into the WiFi card properties. Try Device Manager > Network > (Choose WiFi card) > Properties > Advanced. I can't see anything which specifically disables 2.4GHz but you can fiddle with the options. If no joy there then try uninstalling the WiFi driver, clean the registry (CCleaner may do this) and reboot before reinstalling the driver.

I did all of the above, yet to no avail- except for the registry trick- however- if I have a clean install- why would I need to clean the registry in the first place?

In the absence of any other hypotheses about the cause of the problem I wonder if something got mis-configured during the driver installation and that configuration is in the registry (or possibly a separate .ini file) and not changeable through the WiFi adapter properties. Use the Samsung driver when reinstalling.

A temporary work-around the problem is to use a cheap USB WiFi adapter but that isn't a good long-term arrangement.

Another thought: I presume you can see the router using other devices (eg phone)? Did you hide the 2.4GHz SSID for the router, in which case you need to manually set up the WiFi on the computer? If in doubt, reset the router. And make sure that the router is using a channel which the computer will find. There are some regional differences in both a/b/g/n and the channel range.
