It's probable that stocks of this notebook are running out.

A new model is discussed here and may show up in the US sometime with the risk that it might, being Haswell, also have a higher price tag.

So, if you like it and prefer to not wait for something that may (or may not) be better, then get it. It will run much better with an SSD inside, so start saving for that as well.

Thanks for the prompt reply John, I am hoping for a good MLK (Monday) Birthday sale, if non appears I will probably get the crucial M500 480 GB, which has been on sale at amazon for the last week or so. (289 US)

I have this exact model and LOVE IT. Replace the HDD ASAP with a SSD and you will not regret your purchase at all.

Im getting this EXACT ssd or the 500 GB 840 EVO. The reviews of both SSD's put them neck and neck (about a 5% difference in performance) but the 840 Evo uses .045W at idle and the M500 uses 1W, both will extend battery life.

I looked at the Book 8 at Best Buy, but ended up buying the Book 6 online at the Microsoft Store. The 8 and 6 are identical except that the 6 has a smaller battery. That makes it lighter, and still has four hour battery life, plenty for me. i7 processor, 8gb ram, 1tb disc, 1920x1080 display, for $899 including shipping. I prefer the dark color of the 6, versus the silver on the 8.

I really like this machine, especially the keyboard is very solid. Even the hated Elan touchpad works well if you disable some of the unused features. I bought a Lenovo a couple weeks ago, but sent it back after a few hours as the keyboard was not securely mounted, the whole thing moved. I am a fast typist, and that keyboard drove me nuts. After that I went to the store to actually try various brands before settling on the Samsung. Much better!

I am also replacing the hard drive with an SSD, in my case the Samsung 840 Pro 512G. Note that the Book 6 (and I assume the 8) does not come with the Samsung Recovery system, so there is no way to create recovery discs to set up the SSD. See my other thread about this. I called Samsung, and they are sending me a recovery CD, no problem.
