You are correct: Last year's Ativ Book 6 (NP670/680Z5E) and Ativ Book 8 (NP870/880Z5E) are the closest to a high-end gaming laptop in Samsung's current lineup, containing AMD 8850 and 8770/8870 GPUs respectively -- and quite popular gauging by the traffic they generated in this pre-release thread and this Owners Lounge.

This year's Haswell refresh of the Ativ Book 8 (NP870/880Z5G) uses Nvidia 750m instead, which probably will make for fewer driver issues than the AMD, but is actually slower than last year's model, and thus has not excited gamers nearly as much -- witness the moderate traffic in the 2014 Ativ Book 8 thread.

Even last year's AB8, which had a fairly impressive GPU when it came out in Jan 2013 (called 2013 Series 7 at the time, NP770/780Z5E) was aiming for a balance of portability, elegance and performance, and wasn't nearly as feature packed as gaming models from some other vendors -- or even compared to earlier Samsung models, such as the previous 15.6-inch Series 7 (NP700Z5C) with its iSSD cache and optical bay, or its 17-inch sibling (NP700Z7C) with its dual drive bays -- not to mention the Series 7 Gamer (NP700G7C) which was their last dedicated gaming rig.

Samsung now seems focused on premium design ultrabooks for high-end consumers and businesses, mostly based on its very successful Series 9 / Ativ Book 9 models, and less on mainstream consumer laptops and techie gear. There is also talk of them getting out of the PC laptop market altogether, starting next year.

A refreshed Samsung Series 5 Ultra with 840M would be nice!
