    Hello all,

I have an X460-44g and when I purchased it I planned on upgrading the CPU...so I purchased an Intel P9600 and started taking apart my x460...my problem is I can't find how to get to the CPU. Does anybody have any ideas? I've changed out CPU's in other laptops (Dell XPS M1330) and thought this would be just as easy...but it doesn't appear to be.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unlikely you will have someone here who did this. The M1330 CPU upgrade is *very* simple compared to most other laptops.

You've probably got to do a major disassembly job. Dell provide easy access to CPUs because it is one of the options during final assembly.

Yes its not that bad. One must have patience an old credit card and understand how the slim ribbon connectors open. I have installed a P9500, Intel 5300, and there is an extra PCIe mini slot for an HSDPA card or an Intel Turbo card, I installed the later (4GB version)!

Battery life seems at this point not to suffer at all in fact it has gone up for me. This is the configuration Samsung should offer. BTW VT is enabled by default.

    Cheers!

    Hi fellow x460 owners ,

As I mentioned before I was able to update the CPU to a P9500, added an Intel 5300 wireless Card, and even added an Intel 4GB Turbo Module.

This thing screams and with the rebates from Samsung and new parts on eBay you should be able to do this for about $300 more! Bring it to just shy of $1200 at this time.

Since the P9500 is 25 watts but slightly higher VID voltage range the Turbo Memory seems to be doing a fantastic job offsetting many seeks to the HD resulting not only Fast performance but battery life is about the same.

I have taken some pictures of it opened up, note the whole mobo must be removed and flipped over as that is where the CPU and graphics chipsets are installed.

I must say I am very impressed with Samsungs engineering , it is superb packaging and more so on the electronics side.

Let me know if you would like a How To document and I will work on a pdf for fellow x460 owners!

    Cheers!

Unlikely. The SU9400's packaging is FCBGA which means Ball Grid Array so it is soldered onto the board. This packaging is used to avoid the extra weight and thickness associated with a CPU socket.

I'd love a PDF or FAQ detailing the upgrade. I'd like to upgrade my p7350 at some point later when the p8600 is offered at a lower price. I'm worried that I might short circuit or break something. I've worked in IT before and never had any problems modifying computers, but the x460-44g I bought seemed to suffer IDE controller problems after I upgraded the hard drive, now I just sent it in for servicing :( I don't want that to happen again should I choose to upgrade the CPU.
