Yeah it is, but since the parts are close together it works as a temporary fix till we can find out more.
-
I've ran throttlestop 5.0 and it hasnt really helped much at all to be honest, the GPU is still heating up and causing fps lag
-
Well instead of heating up in 15 minutes it heats up in 30 minutes
.
-
Do you think Drivers will sort it out, even happens playing COD on medium settings
-
Hopefully it's an issue with fans not kicking in at high temps. I can barely feel any air coming out of the vents at high temps, so maybe a bios update can fix it. I doubt any Nvidia drivers will specifically help the issue.

Still waiting on samsung to return my laptop...
-
I phoned up when I first got the laptop and was told I could either send it back for a replacement at currys which I knew wouldn't fix the problem or send it too Samsung for a repair but just felt they wouldn't be able to fix it as its a problem with every NP550p7C -
if it is a general problem that can't be fixed then i'm going to try and get refunded.
-
new drivers out today on samsung site
Support for NP550P7C -
-
I've not had the time to do any test's but will let you know, I had a play on starcraft 2 and it felt quite hot but only played for 15 mins
-
This is on a NP550P5C though - YMMV wit ha NP550P7C. -
-
Hi
I tested on a np550p7c. I installed all the new drivers but it is still not working well. -
Hi
Did you get your laptop? Are they fixed the throttle problem? -
still waiting. Apparently they have parts on order and i should get it in a few days.
-
Okay just got it back and played about 20 minutes on skyrim ultra high quality. frame rate stayed consistently in the mid-high 20's!
They replaced the motherboard by the way. -
How hot was it getting? normally 30 mins of play is the magic number, I will see how you get on and if you don't have any problems I'm going to phone up samsung again and get it repaired
-
I have this laptop and would like to install a second drive (I have bought a 750GB momentus hybrid for that purpose.)
Can anyone who has this machine confirm that it comes with the right cable and HDD connector to fit a second drive? I can't find mine anywhere and Samsung (I think erroneously say it doesnt come with the computer and have no idea where i can get one.
)

Thanks Soulus. That would be very useful as it might actually persuade the jokers at Samsung that this computer should come with this and hopefully send me one.
-
-
here you go -
I've played SC 2 for 40 mins and it started throttling so the drivers didnt help what so ever, I'm going to phone up samsung tomorrow and get it repaired I'm bored of this, I was gonna go for a dell xps17 but didnt want the 555m but wish I did now
Its really putting me off playing games, I haven't played diablo 3 in a long time because I cant stand the constant throttling, its put me off playing any game as I know whats going to happen -

Guys i can confirm the I7 version does come with caddy and cable for the second hard drive. I upgraded mine the day after purchase with an ssd. The caddy is mounted in the laptop and the cable to connect was in a small plasic bag in the laptop box.
I have also tried other games like MW3 and everything seems to be fine for me but i am keeping a close eye just incase. -
Thanks -
Really is just a matter of plug and play, however i did relocate the 1tb drive which was mounted in the center location to the outer hdd location and put the ssd in the center slot. this was done in the hope to reduce heat on the 1tb drive and in the center location as its located near the heatpipes.

Yep, i've had the overheating problem with lags, but only after I reinstalled windows after installing an SSD drive (Yep, Samsung 830 works fine btw) and manually put the drivers on. I didn't install all the Samsung applications, and during Dawn of War 2 (which used to run on max gfx fine) it started to slow down and get really hot. I restored to factory then ghosted across to the SSD drive, then remembered that bit of software that switches to noisy mode or something which I guessed increased the fan speed (it changes the desktop background when doing it). Anyways, after switching to this mode I have no problems gaming for a few hours - I do rise the laptop up slightly so air can get underneath, and it does get hot (not checked temps though).
My old laptop got very hot when gaming too, couldn't even touch it sometimes, and that lasted 5-6 years even after dropping it loads - it was a mess with cracks all over it, but still soldiered on, so not too fussed here. -
Thanks for your support, pictures
But I'm looking for 15 inch as 17 inch is not available in my country (India). I guess 15 inch doesn't have additional hard drive bay -
Had the overheating problem, so it's off to Samsung for repair. Hopefully it's just a bad batch as I really like the machine. I have a pretty good cooler (aerostrike X1) which was working in some cases. But playing spec-ops and frames dropped from 50FPS to 10FPS after 20 minutes was the final straw. It's not that demanding a game.

Hi there, every now and then my Samsung hard drive makes light clicking sounds, is this normal or should I get it checked out?
Thanks -
cant say i have noticed any clicking with my hard drive so it could be an issue.
-
I sent it off with a letter, video of it happening and a link to this thread so they can read it for themselves, so fingers crossed it's something they can fix.
Let me know when you get yours back and will tell you what they done with mine and if its working or not once it's been retuned. -
Hi
I have the same laptop with the same problem. Is anyone bought it from curry? Can I sand it to repair to samsung if I buy from curry? -
I had a phone call yesterday, pretty much saying that there was nothing they can do, and to replace any part was a waste of time. But the matter had be sent to Samsung HQ as its a serious fault and if it wasn't fixed, they would have to replace it or give a discount, once they had responded.
I went to pick up my laptop from the repair centre, and I spoke to someone else. The guy said to me that he had done some updates etc etc and the laptop was running pretty hot, told him that it was a genuine problem and the laptop should be able to handle this easily without the fps lag. He told me to come back 30 mins later as he was running a test on the laptop, once I returned he told me that it seams to have fixed the issue and the laptop wasn't running as hot. The guy seamed decent and understood my complaints.
I got home, didn't get much time to test it, but I played Diablo 3 1600x900 on full with low shadow settings, on and off for about an hour and didn't get any fps lag, it did get as hot as usual but that's to be expected but so far It's working, I will give it another test on Friday and report back before anyone's send there laptop off to Samsung and loses it for a week and it didn't fix anything.
Also I found out, If you upgrade the laptop your warranty is voided, I asked the guy if I could open it up and put a SSD into the laptop, and he said if you open it up then it voids the warranty, so guess I wont be upgrading my ram and to a SSD drive just yet he said if you want to upgrade and keep warranty, take the laptop to a repair centre with the parts and pay £60 and they will upgrade it for you and it won't void the warranty
And on a last note, I also bought my laptop from currys, so sending it back to Samsung isn't a problem, give them a call and tell them the issue, you might need to do all their bull they say down the phone, go bios do this do that etc etc but after you point out it doesn't work and you will need to run the laptop for 30 mins before the problem kicks in they give up pretty soon lol
Excuse any bad grammar as I'm 1/2 asleep writing this on my iPhone and also in the little boys room lol multi tasking as its best -
I found a new info. I tried and it's working. So when you playing with the nvidia card and start to throtting plug off the charger and the throotle is stop until the laptop is working on battery. This is very weird. It is tested. I think there is a huge problem with these laptop series.
-
ok i did a quick test .. reverted back to original display drivers and played dirt 2 temps hit 85 cpu and 83gpu and slow down started and this was less than 10 mins. Then installed the nvidia beta drivers 304.79 and run dirt 2 again, temps hit 92 cpu and 86gpu no slowdown. This was with power plugged in, no additional cooling and laptop running in turbo mode.
-
hmmm 304.79 fixes .....
•Key Fixes
◦Fixes an intermittent vsync stuttering issue with GeForce GTX 600-series GPUs.
◦Fixes an issue where some manufacturer’s factory overclocked cards default to and run at lower clocks. -
I've done a few tests on my laptop since I've had it back from Samsung, I just played Diablo 3 for an hour didnt get any slow downs, I do have the latest geforce beta drivers, but everything seams to be running fine. If your having the FPS lag still after installing the geforce 304.79 then I would get on to samsung about a repair
-
Another tip to keep temps down , if ur running a game that you dont need turbo boost from the cpu change the power profile advance setting ,processor power management - max processor state to 99%. This will prevent the turbo option from kicking in and the temps should be lower.
-
I can confirm that with the new beta drivers 304.79 and after getting my laptop back from Samsung repair centre, it has done all to fix the problem, was playing Starcraft 2 and it started throttling again, I'm going to phone up tomorrow and complain
It's pointless updating drivers and it's almost pointless sending the laptop to get repaired, it makes you laugh that this laptop cost £1,000 at currys, lucky I got mine for £670 -
-
The program I used to monitor gpu and cpu had expired so couldnt check the temp when it was happening, but will get a new one and test it again. I was playing Starcraft 2 for about 40 mins all settings where on high and they dropped from 60fps to 14fps, after that it happens once it happens every 5 minutes. I have my laptop on a cooling pad, also fan was on turbo mode.
I sent my laptop off to samsung for a week just for them to look at it for a fews hours and do nothing with it. -
Got mine back from repair yesterday, the CPU was replaced. I played spec ops for an hour and suffered no slowdown. Temperatures were a but high still, but followed nachoman1 tip dropping the max processor state to 99% and ran using a cooler and the GPU/CPU run a lot cooler. I plan to unleash metro2033 tonight and the witcher 2. I'll keep all informed.
-
Is there any chance I could have your work ID number from Samsung so I can tell them to look into your case as they are clueless... And they tell me no one else has had this problem it would really help, If you don't want to write it on this thread send me a pm. I've started to make videos running different games and the fps lag so far I've got diablo 3 and starcraft 2
I've gotta go back so Samsung tomorrow and lost my laptop for another week so I want as much information I can get to rub into their faces -
I'll PM it over later. I was getting massive FPS drops after about 20 minutes even if I dialled the CPU down to 90% and ran with a laptop cooler. The GPU and CPU were running at 90C. I ran in turbo mode last night and the CPU reached 85C but I didn't get any FPS drops. Adding the cooler and dialing the CPU down to 99% to stop the CPU going into turbo mode dropped the temperatures in the CPU for 70C which I'm much happier with. The GPU was running at a much lower rate.
The engineer phoned to tell me that they couldn't find any problems, but once I described the issues they had another look.
HTH,
RM
Anyone here have the NP550P7C 17"?
