So the gist is my sister bought me a brand new Envy 15 (and its great!) a few days ago, I found out about Haswell Envy's releasing today and when looking around decided I wanted a 1080P Bluray 17" Laptop. Well the Envy 17 has spec/flaw issues that im not into...so next stop I check out Samsung, but I cant find anywhere on when its Haswell updates will release, does anyone know?

Specifically what im looking for is this in Haswell-updated specs form: Samsung Series 7 17" (Chronos): Samsung - Series 7 17.3" Laptop - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Titan Silver - NP700Z7C-S01UB chronos&cp=1&lp=1

Looking for Haswell i5 or i7 (im guessing only option in 17" laptops is i7), 1080P screen, Bluray player, backlit keyboard, a good GPU but doesn't need to be hardcore (would prefer Nvidia but if AMD is my only option I'll go with it), 8 or more Gb of RAM, HDD is not a big deal, it would be cool if it came with SSD caching and a 700GB+ HDD, I like that the Chronos has a 8 cell battery not 6, and im okay paying $1300.

    Thanks guys

Lots and lots of discussion about this in the following two threads. Both are quite big, but if you use the Search Thread feature, you can look for Haswell discussions:

You can also Google site:notebookreview.com/samsung Haswell to find even more discussion, such as the following thread:

Samsung is promising a product premiere in London on 20th June. We may have to wait until then to get more details of the new products.

One advantage of Samsung introducing the Ativ Book 8 a few months ago is that the chassis is ready and waiting for a board with some new chips. It is possible that USA may be first in line for the Haswell Ativ Book 8 since it didn't get he top spec version of the current model (so no inventory to clear).

Those models use the Ivy Bridge platform and are available in many countries. Search for NP870Z5E or NP880Z5E to find photos. We expect the Haswell models to look the same on the outside.

To me it is a glaring omission in the current 2013 Series 7 models (current Ativ Book 6 and 8) that they only have a fairly slow HDD, and no ExpressCache or SSD, nor an ODD bay to move the HDD if you add an SSD.

I understand that Samsung wants everything to look like an ultrabook, but we already have Series 9 for that. The original premise of the Series 7 Chronos was a desktop replacement in an "almost ultrabook" form factor: Fullspeed CPU, discrete GPU, big HDD with ExpressCache, ODD.

I wonder if the Haswell version of Ativ Book 8 might squeeze in an mSATA in addition to the HDD. That would make a HUGE difference in my opinion.

An SSD is available as a fastory option and the Swedes have a version with 256GB SSD. I suspect that most country marketing departments didn't want the price increase that the SSD brings. Perhaps some of these models will use the SSHD. They now have 8GB of NAND memory.

Thank you, John. Actually my point was I want both: An mSATA/SSD of at least 64GB (for Windows and apps) AND a 1TB HDD (for data). Otherwise I think it is a step back from what Series 7 Chronos used to be in terms of performance and capacity. 2011 and 2012 Series 7 Chronos already had the hybrid drive (although ExpressCache is messier than a Seagate Momentus, and not quite as fast with the slow SanDisk iSSD).

So, again, I am wondering if Samsung might do something like this when they stick new Haswell motherboards in the upcoming Ativ Book 8.

Oh no... I've joined the Haswell speculation. I promised myself never to do that :D
