Hi, so I'm a potential buyer of the 15 inch model. I love everything about how this laptop looks on paper (great battery, great screen, slim form factor), but I keep hearing that in reality it is riddled with problems.

What exactly are the major problems, and would you say that it is a deal breaker for me getting the laptop?

    Thanks.

You be the judge. Read through the threads and see if you can live with the issues mentioned. If you feel you can, then you can proceed to buy.

I have one and I love it, but the people most vocal are the ones who have issues, not the ones that are happy, that is why you hear complains.

The only real issue this laptop has is that the switchable GPU doesn't work as it should with OpenGL, but that's pretty much it. And this is something that most likely will be solved by drivers, and if you are willing to install hacked drivers you can get around it right now! But either way it doesn't matter to very many people as not many programs use OpenGL these days.

But other than that, I don't consider it to have any real issues.

If you just need to browse and do some gamimg, using the unnoficial drivers will be just fine. as long as you don't need it for real graphics production.
anyways, i like everything about it, except this GPU issue.

Similarly, on paper, I like everything about this laptop. I don't game so any of the GPU issues don't impact me. HOWEVER, it seems like it is a roll of the dice as to whether wifi will work and unless the issue is corrected, I cannot possibly rationalize spending $1,000 of a laptop that is unable to perform the basic and CRITICAL task of accessing the internet from a variety of locations.

I was hoping to be able to see the laptop in person at my local Costco and, last week the laptop was removed from their stock with no reason given. Now the laptop shows as "product unavailable" when I try to locate to the product on the Costco internet page. So they carried the new laptop for 5 weeks and then discontinued carrying it. Draw your own conclusions.

Well I just took the plunge. We'll see on Tuesday when it arrives if these things bother me too much. I'm hoping it wont be too bothersome since this wont be my primary computer. Mostly just needed something with a good screen and long battery life that will be easy to take around with me.

Overall I'd give the laptop 8/10. It is very nice looking and the screen is pretty good IMO. Touchpad is also a highlight. Similarly the only issue I really have is the graphics as others. Not a huge issue for me though.

It runs very smooth.. currently have 3 chrome windows with about 13 tabs each, 3 excel spreadsheets, four word documents and utorrent downloading.. and playing a video at the same time. no hint of slowdown.

I'd just go with it and return it if you cant deal with the issues.

I've literally owned this laptop for about 5 hours. I have read every word ever written about the Series 7 and had reservations too based on all the negative info. Ultimately I pulled the trigger because I owned a Dell XPS m1330 and you could fill the grand canyon with the negative posts about that laptop, and yet I loved it. I figure that it will be the same with the Series 7. I'm sure there will be things I wish were a little better, but overall I think it's going to be a fantastic computer.

So far I'm extremely pleased. My biggest worry was the touchpad and with the new driver installed I am in love with it. The single finger tap is a little tricky and sometimes doesn't register on the first try, but aside from that it's a dream.

It's too early to tell if there is anything else that will nag me, but so far so good.

For me, the wifi issue is simply a matter of range. When I move closer to the router, I get great performance. But compared to my last laptop (a 5 year old Dell), the range of the 15 S7 was a distinct let down. I bought a new router just because of the S7 performance and do a see an improvement with it (I went from a Linksys WRT54GS to a Netgear N750 WNDR4000).
