    Hello, :)
I have a NP700Z5A (Serie 7 Chronos) and I can't boot from a USB Stick (Ubuntu). Am I the only one to have that problem?
I want to say, I already change the boot order in the bios, and I tried to "force boot" on the USB stick via the "esc" key while booting.

    Thank you!!

Use the USB 2.0 port instead of the 3.0 ones.

Even with Ubuntu burned on a DVD it won't boot... :(

PS: both USB stick and DVD boot on my old HP DV6000
PSS: the Samsung Windows 7 DVD works...

I also had to try for some time to get ubuntu to boot from usb but it worked somehow in the end. I think what did the trick was to reboot from windows with the usb stick inserted (using the 2.0 port)

u gotta go into the bios with it plugged in, and make it the first device on the boot list.

the thing about booting from usb drives is that samsumg's software optimizes bios settings to boot first from the CD rom, and then from the hard drive... skipping all the otther devices in the process, and i think that allways resets it to be that way... must test it a bit more and tell you about it later...

    Hi,

sadly the Samsung support chat wasn't qualified enough to help me with a similar problem. I tried myself and found an acceptable solution:

I updated my bios to the current version 10FD (previously 04FD).
The Samsung support said, there is no bios boot menu via hotkey but only a selection in the bios. This information was simply wrong. By pressing ESC during the POST screen you can open a boot menu.

The weird part is, the samsung only finds my usb devices during the first (cold) boot, after a reboot, there aren't any usb devices in the boot menu,
but it seems all 3 usb ports work.

So just turn off everything, plug in your usb device, start your machine and press ESC.

    greetings
    conker

You will see that the original post in this forum mentions trying to use the Esc key to select the device, but still couldn't get it to boot.

That was more intended to mock about the samsung support ;)

The really useful part of my post is, that my samsung notebook only detects the usb devices at the first boot and not anymore after a soft reboot (strg+alt+entf).
Apart from that, a BIOS update could be useful.
Would be interesting, which bios version is installed on Loweack's notebook and if the update to 10FD helps.

I tested it just again, and it seems to be very important, to activate "legacy usb support". Don't know why, but without, my notebook won't boot from usb.

You must activate that Legacy USB Support option. Otherwise it will never boot from USB.

I don't disagree there. However, have you ever seen the Esc boot option mentioned in a Samsung manual? I haven't. And if it's not in the manual then it's unlikely that the support people will have learn about it. I have reported this Esc key option numerous times on this site and have mentioned it in reviews, such as here. But we can't expect the folk at Samsung to read the reviews to see if there is anything useful.

Hi Sakroth, welcome to the forum.

You are correct, it's F10 on some models to bring up the Boot Device menu. On other models it's Esc.

This is a very old thread, so I think we should leave it at that.
