I've read some stuff that gives you tips for looking after you laptop battery. I just want to know if the battery deteriorates wile charging and using a laptop on all laptops. As in - might some split the power from the mains in such a way that the laptop, while plugged in runs purely off the mains power and the batter is "disconnected" from the laptop itself and is just being charged?

So far I have been encouraging the main user of this laptop to take the battery out when using the mains to supply power to the laptop if the battery has run out of charge.

    Thanks for any help guys.

The computer should stop charging the battery once it is fully charged.

However, the battery will gradually self-discharge. Most manufacturers then allow a small amount of discharge (2% to 5%) before topping up the battery again. I can't remember what Samsung do. I always leave the battery in, wherever I am. I like to have the built-in UPS.

So it foes not deteriorate the battery more if you use the laptop while it is charging?

No. In fact it might be good for the battery because the maximum charging current may be reduced depending on the PSUs ability to provide power for both the computer and the battery charging.

I see, thanks or the answers. It did seem a bit "unpractical" to the user of the laptop to take the battery out all the time you wanna you the mains for power.

Also, derailing a bit how would a lower current make it better for the battery?

Would it just increase the charge time?

A slower charging speed means less heating of the battery, which is good for its health.
