Hi guys, I have a Samsung R70. My dad helped me to install the Vista etc but he did it all wrong and I want to restart again (i.e. reinstal Vista and repartition the drives from new, etc etc) but I looked at the manuals and they say that this can't be done anymore once Vista is registered.

I also see I don't have any recovery disks...is there any links that to help create to transfer the recovery process onto a DVD?

I thought Samsung provided O/S and driver discs.

Anyway, pressing one of the keys (F10?) during initial bootup should trigger recovery from the recovery partition (unless that got wiped). Read the recovery software manual.

    thanks John!!

My laptop didn't come with any O/S disk other than the samsung driver disk.

I press F4 already (is F7 different to F4?) and clicked on the earliest entry (i.e. when the computer was first turned on and Vista registered got registered) and it restores to the wrong things that my Dad did already. I was using the Samsung Recovery Solution II software.

Is there are way to create recovery disks from the hidden partition and start from stratch (i.e. register Vista, etc) as though it was a new computer?

There may not be a way to create a recovery disk, but I am sure one of the Fn keys will trigger restoration of the original factory image. At the moment I'm a few thousand miles away from the recovery manual and this information is not included in the user guide. This thread (about a Dell) suggests F8. Samsung may use a different key. You need to press (maybe a few times) the right key while the BIOS splash screen is showing.

If you can't figure out the correct key to press then ask Samsung support. You can use their electronic messaging system at the end of the FAQ section such as here.

John, the problem with this is that the initial image is soemthing I want to amend as well. The biggest problem is that the partition has been locked due to the first time setup when the computer was first turned on.

Do you think if I use stallen's and orev's clean Vista install technique, I can overcome these issuses?

I'm not sure how it's handled in the US, but you should call Samsung (or your dealer) and try and get a Vista DVD. My R70 came with one, although it's slightly modified (no repair function, as I had to find out the hard way).

As far as I know, there shouldn't be any issues reinstalling and re-registering Vista on the same PC, as long as you don't change any hardware (then it's limited to ten times, or something like that).

In case you're asked: Your Vista Serial should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
