I think it's clear now what are the pros of NC10. While its cons have been mentioned a little here and there, would like to have them collected in one thread. I haven't seen one yet, but according to what I've read, here are some cons compared to other netbooks:
1. Higher price
2. A little larger
3. A little heavier (w/ battery)
Anything to add? Please keep the cons considered separately from the pros (e.g. don't justify it's cons by its pros).![]()

smaller touchpad compared to others (but it's multitouch)
-
-
I don't think its larger compared to other 10 inches netbooks. Atleast definitely smaller than the 1000h.
Another con would be lack of black color nc10's in the US! -
According to the info I see, it's a little larger than Lenovo Ideapad S10.
-
Only two colors to choose from... no black
-
Then you'll find that the Samsung is neither large nor heavy. In my country it isn't expensive either. -
Having played with it for just a few hours, I think the biggest con for the NC10 is the small touchpad. It works, but just barely. Not only is it small, but I find the edges very hard to detect with my finger tip, and I often end up outside of it.
However, it's nothing that a mouse or trackball can't fix.
Hi, Philflow! -
I think if you really go about the business of tweaking the mouse pad and learn how to use --- you will find that it is okay. At first I had a lot of trouble. Then I followed some of the set up tips that people posted on the various forums and "tuned it up". I have no problems now.
I REALLY love this netbook. Fom me - this is a dream come true.
pssssst - and I chose BLUE -
And like Redfish said, you may need a couple of days to get used to it.
I personally never bring my mouse. The tweaks for the touchpad are explained in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=330872
Welkom op het forum. -
I did all the tweaking, but that doesn't change the fact that it's small. Don't worry, I'll get used to it - I will only be using an external pointing device at home.
Edit: just discovered the momentum setting. It's working miracles. Takes considerable less effort now to move across the entire screen! -
When you want to buy something don't you look at all that are available on the market and make comparisons of their features, qualities, and prices and then decide the one most fitting your need and budget?
-
Ofcourse a 9" netbook with a 3 cell battery will be lighter and smaller. -
-
When comparing the NC10 to other 10" netbooks (Asus, Lenovo, MSI) weight and size aren't really cons.
The real cons, in my opinion, are the touchpad, although I got used to it, Asus 1000h has a larger one. NC10's touchpad is better than the current one on the MSI Wind.
Also the speakers on the Asus 1000h are said to be better than NC10.
Another con is the fact that for upgrading the harddrive one needs to completely open it. This voids warranty as far as I know. I don't know how this works with other brands. -

But if you break something while trying to change the HDD, don't expect Samsung to fix it for free.
John -
What about RAM upgrading? Can they tell it?
-
I just got my Samsung NC10 yesterday.
I have to agree with the size issue here. It's quite bit thicker than the HP Mini 1000, and it feels weird when you use it without the battery (through power cord). However, it's definitely not large in comparison to what I was using before-- a 7.2 lbs. Dell E1505. -

Note that the warranty covers the parts supplied by Samsung, so keep them until the warranty period has expired. Then, if there is any problem, you can put the hardware into the as-supplied condition.

Looks like a screen problem has hit the NC10, I hate to burst the bubble here but since mine was burst, I shall pass on the love
Screen problem on the NC10, you wouldn't have noticed it until now, so my apologies in advance.

I have those blotches and commented on them in my review.
At the moment I was planning to live with them.
John -
So am I, but honestly, I didn't know the problem affected all screens. They are pretty weird though.
-
I had never seen anything before but now I'm noticing a darker patch in the left and right bottom corner.
I'm assuming that's what you mean. It's not bad enough for me to get a replacement though. -
Yep--that's right, Phil. Sorry
-
No worries. I quite enjoy the humor of it.
-
I have slightly darker areas in the two lower corners of the screen on my 5 days-old NC10. I couldn't care less. It's not a NEC SpectraView, you know...
-
True, I think only folks with OCD will probably have a problem with it. However, don't all of us on NBR have OCD where our laptops are concerned?
I think it's the price. This kind of a display flaw, however faint, would be unacceptable on a $2000+ laptop. That kind of exclusivity raises the bar for acceptable quality. -
I agree that the touchpad is a little small, but you pay for the large keyboard real estate. Personally I don't even use touchpads if it can be avoided, I always pack a mouse. Then again, I also dislike trackballs, pointing sticks, or joysticks.
As far as the screen blotch issue, I think I remember John Ratsey making a comment about something along those lines on the long NC10 discussion thread which I read before making my purchase. Luckily I do not have said blotches. It's easier for me to say this since I don't have to deal with them, but personally I think I'd agree with John that they seem less bothersome than a dead pixel... and I've certainly lived with displays with problems much worse than dead pixels. That being said, I do find it unacceptable and am glad Samsung is offering a free fix/replacement for customers who seek it. -
-
I have said blotch and its annoying and Samsung will be fixing it shortly.
