Did a Windows 8 refresh, didn't install Settings. Why is the battery still limited to 80%?

I'm more curious than anything. Like I mentioned, I did a factory reset, then did a Windows 8 refresh, then updated to 8.1. The only thing I installed was SW Update and did not install the Settings application. I noticed that on the Balanced power plan, it's still not charging past 80% (the limit imposed by the Settings software).

While I plan to install the Settings application, I'm curious as to why this is happening without the Samsung power plan installed. Is it a setting controlled somewhere else outside of Windows? Please enlighten. Thanks.

Most likely because your model has Battery Life Extender, and it is enabled in BIOS. This is a firmware feature intended to prolong battery health. It runs completely independent of the installed OS software. You can change the setting in BIOS or in Settings (at least in fully compatible Settings versions).

If you google site:notebookreview.com/samsung vattery life extender you will find huge amounts of discussion about it in various threads here.

I can confirm that the BLE on/off setting is stored in the BIOS. I normally have BLE enabled and each time I do a BIOS update BLE gets disabled.

You can change the BLE setting in the BIOS setup.
