Hello everyone! I'm new in this forum.

I have a Samsung R50 laptop since 3 years ago. These days, due to a little problem of overheating in it (CPU temp doesn't low under 52ºC) I wanted to open/disassemble it to clean the fan, that it's my first hypothesis about the problem. I removed all screws on the bottom, took off the keyboard, but the "chassis" didn't separate at all, it's something on the front side, at the right of the buttond of touchpad, that is holding it, like it was other screw on there (but I have sure removed all of them!).
Can someone give me any clue to continue without breaking the laptop xD?

I wasn't able to find some kind of service manual or instructions for this model

Thank you very much in advance.

There are probably some plastic latches which are holding the chassis together at the seam - small teeth stick out of one half and latch into small dents in the other half.

You need to start poking a small flat-bladed screwdriver or similar device into the seam and see if you can lift one half away from the other half. Don't bend anything very much - the teeth are usually less than 1mm long.

Many thanks for your reply John. I finally managed to disassemble the laptop.

As you say there was one plastic latch 1 cm to the right of the laptop lid hook, I lifted it with a screwdriver (it was very difficult). After that I had to extract the dvd-rom drive (there's a screw on the bottom labeled "cdrom") so I could remove another screw on the dvd hollow. Also I had to take off three more screws under the two removable plastic pieces on hinges of screen.

The rest is quite intuitive: take off the screen (the two thin cables are plugged under the metallic cap under keyboard), unplug some connectors with extremely care, remove fan screws...

The fan and the ventilation grid were full of dust, that was causing the overheating problem.

Now the average temperature of my CPU has lowered from 52 to 39ºC (25%!!)

    Regards.

Thanks for the update. Some photos would be helpful for other people who need to do the same.

    Dear Delta,

I am in Germany. I have the same problem like you did before. I have a 3 year old Laptop SamSung R50. Now it is very noisy and the guarantie is over. I would confess that I am not familiar with hardware computer things. I studied agriculture. I took it to the shop and they, even didnot check for the problem, asked to charge me about 200 Euro. My hypothesis is also due to dust. Could you be so kind to explain me the procedure you did with your one? do you need to buy a new fan or just clean it? Please let me know as soon as you can to my email address: [email protected]
Thank you very much for your attention! I would really appreciate your reply

Hello thanhfuv, I'm on exams period now and I didn't find time yet to post a howto with photos (I will do it for sure soon, it's on my "to-do list").

For now I can tell you that I cleaned the original laptop fan (I didn't replace it) with a few damped gauze (with alcohol). I also used a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dust in the ventilation grid once I had the fan out.

When opening the laptop take care of the plastic latches at the seam and the screw above the dvd drive.

    Hope this helps. King regards.

Here is the "howto" I've promised. Sorry for the delay.

First remove all screws on the bottom of the laptop (also the "keyboard" and "cd" ones).
Then you can extract the cd drive and the keyboard (help yourself with a little screwdriver to press the latches below left-Alt and right-Ctrl keys)
Next you must remove the screw on the cd-drive hole (R50_0.jpg).

Then take off the two plastic pieces on screen hinges(r50_1.jpg).

Below them there are some screws and a flat connector that you must remove (take care of the screen!). You must also unplug two cables below the keyboard (r50_2.jpg) to be able to completely remove the screen. (MAIN-white,AUX-black)

Now you can detach the superior part of the chassis. Take care with the famous plastic latch on the seam (r50_0.jpg). Before detaching the chassis completely you must unplug carefully three connectors (I recommend to you not unplugging the black cable of the touchpad, it's difficult and not necessary).

Now you have the laptop opened and you can see the fan (r50_3.jpg).

Just remove it and clean it with a gauze (damped with alcohol if you like). Also suck the dust on the ventilation grid (r50_4.jpg) with a vacuum (you can also use some pointed object to help you removing the dust from it).

Be carefull plugging again all connectors when reassembling the chassis.

That's all. I hope this would help you.

Write if you have any question.

    Kind regards,
    Daniel
