    Hi!

I would like to install windows seven professional operating system on my Samsung X360 notebook but I was told recently by a Samsung technical support specialist that I should change the amount of ram (3gb) that's installed in the unit to 4gb of ram because the notebook would perform better and run more smoothly.

I would appreciate any feedback/advice from the members who have windows 7 OS installed on their notebook with the current 3 gb of ram that is installed in the notebook and whether or not the performance of the notebook appears sluggish and if so, would it be advisable to upgrade the amount of ram to 4 gb. Thanks. :)

If it can run Vista, it can run 7.

Windows 7 will run fine on 3GB. In addition, the 32-bit version of Windows cannot address more than 3.25 to 3.5GB RAM, so you won't see a big benefit of upgrading to 4GB unless you are running 64 bit Windows. Even then, you may not see any benefit unless you are running applications that need lots of RAM. Open up your normal programs an then use Task Manager (Performance tab) to show how much RAM is in use.

    Hi!

Thanks so much John, for answering my question about whether or not windows seven professional os will run smoothly with three gb. of ram installed on it.

I have an additional question to ask you which is, will the notebook still run smoothly if I install windows xp mode on it, which requires an additional one gb of ram and additional 15 bg of hard drive space?

I probably will not use windows xp mode on the notebook as I probably will not have any need for it.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance. :)

Windows XP will run on less RAM than Windows 7 (it is from an era when 1GB RAM was a luxury). XP Mode needs a minimum of 0.5GB RAM (I've just checked mine) plus whatever RAM is used by the program(s) running in XP mode so the recommended 1GB is about right. Note that it only uses this if you start up XP Mode. It is not running all the time so, if like me, you just want to have it available for the occasional incompatible program then it doesn't impact on the normal RAM usage. When you close XP Mode it hibernates so, when you need it, it starts up quickly. It is possible that you may need to close a very RAM-hungry program when you start up XP mode, but that is unlikely. Few programs use more than 0.5GB RAM.
