Doom 3 Sikkmod - Anyone get it working on the S7 with Radeon 6750M?

    Hey everyone,
I know it's an old game that most probably don't play anymore, but I reinstalled Doom 3 from Steam in order to try out the incredible graphics updates included in Sikkmod 1.2 + hi-res texture packs:

Sikkmod for Doom III - Mod DB

While it seems to work great for many people (though just as many have reported issues with Radeon cards), I get really crazy glitches when enabling most of the effects:

    • White screen when HDR is enabled
    • Upside-down, zoomed and off-centre display when enabling any of the other effects.
    • Weird inverted mirror effects on glass, and mirrors/lens type effects where there should be fire.
    • Cell-shaded appearance to all character models.
    • Odd shadow effects obscuring my field of view.

I've tried most of the Radeon "fixes" I can find on the web, e.g. disabling Catalyst A.I. with RadeonPro, renaming the Doom3.exe file, disabling triple-buffering, and forced AA etc.

Just wondering if anyone on here has been able to get it working correctly (or if anyone owns a copy of D3 and wants to take on the challenge of getting it to run successfully on the Chronos!)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

P.S. the same effects are observed when using Sikkmod 1.1, 1.2 or Perfected mods.

No longer an issue - just solved most of the glitches by fully disabling Catalyst AI using the method described here:

Steam Users' Forums - View Single Post - amazing; game isn't using my video card!

Update Many of the new features/effects still cause minor glitches. A better option appears to be the Perfected Doom Mod, which includes many of the Sikkmod graphics enhancements as well as some additional adjustments.

It's working flawlessly thus far, but not at optimal framerates. I'm going to try the 6.2 and 6.2.1 patches later to see if that helps.

Update 2: patching Sikkmod to 6.2.1 boosted performance significantly. Getting solid 30+ FPS with everything enabled except soft shadows. Sikk graphics!

Perfected Doom Mod is too much for the 6750M to handle at native res, and it cannot be scaled down very easily.

Sikkmod is far more forgiving and can be tweaked as needed to balance eye-candy with performance.
