Hi. I went from Windows 7 to 8.1 and I'm actually enjoying it so far. My laptop has buttons for volume as well as for turning the wifi on/ off. Windows was able to handle the volume controls just fine, but I had to download easy display manager so that I could us fn keys to change the brightness. My problem is...when I adjust the volume, both the animations from Windows AND Easy Display manager show up. It's not a real issue, but it bothers me a bit. Does anyone know how I can turn those the easy display option off?
Also, I've noticed that the wireless button stays blue and I can't turn it off, though the fn key for it works. Also not a problem, but if that has anything to do with Easy Display manage or anything I'd love to fix it as well. It has its own animation, it just doesn't do anything when I click the button.

Easy Display Manager is history and was superseded at least two years ago by Easy Settings for Windows 7 notebooks. However,, Windows 8 uses an updated version of the program called Settings.
It is meant to be a generic program that works for all Samsung notebooks so you can use SW Update to get a copy of Settings for one of the recent models which has Windows 8.1 drivers and software. There is also an airplane mode driver to help with turning the wireless devices on and off.
Give Settings a try although I can't be 100% sure that it will work with your notebook (which model?).

I've got a QX410: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/pcs/NP-QX410-J01US
I downloaded SW Update at one point, but when I looked up my model it couldn't find it and it told me to download my settings manually, so I never did--everything was fine accept this. -

You can use SW Update to manually download drivers using the Find Model facility.
The QX410 isn't there but you will find the NP-QX411 under United States > Others and it lists Settings version 2.0.0.31 under Windows 8.
Try it.

Thanks! I'll try it tonight. Sadly, I have to head out soon. I'll go ahead and do it and report back. Do you suggest I go ahead and uninstall easy display settings first or no?

Yes, this ^
Uninstall Easy Settings (or Easy Display Manager) and reboot before installing Settings. -
I've downloaded and installed settings but it wont open. When I click it nothing happens.

Cancel that. Got it to open. Wifi button still has no effect, but I think that the FN keys appear to work. There seems to be a sort of lag in the brightness settings, though. Maybe I need to clip the keys slower?

You just open it with Fn-F1, as you probably found. The Wifi Fn-key only works if you have installed the airplane mode driver from SW Update.

I'll try reinstalling it again.

Thanks for the help. I'm still having trouble with the FN keys for wireless, though I did go through and install the airplane mode stuff.
