It's a Series 5 NP550p5c-t01us.
A few days ago I ran SW Manager, and it said there was a new version of itself, which I let it download and install. And suddenly there was a whole list of updates, one of which was new firmware. So I started with just the firmware, which updated successfully to P07AAA. So far, no issues with that, although I really don't know what to look for. But then the fun began.
There were updates of most of the Samsung support programs left to be done, so I started doing those. One worked ok, but then I got to the wireless LAN update, which failed. On rebooting, many things didn't work, including all the USB ports. So, in the end I had to restore an image from a couple weeks before.
Of course that set me back to square one except for the firmware update. But now SW Manager no longer sees that it needs to be updated. I take it back - it did one time, but the download failed. Now it's just back to saying my computer is fully up to date, which of course isn't true.
This seems more like punishment than a helpful tool. And of course the updates listed the first time appear nowhere on the Samsung support page for my model.
I would appreciate some guidance on what to do. Should I wait until the new updates show up online? Will that ever happen? Should I keep trying to use SW Manager? Is there a way to get SW Manager to just download the files and let me manually install them?
I should say that I have installed Truecrypt whole-drive encryption on the hard drive. In theory this shouldn't make any difference as long as the updates are taking place within Windows 7, but I thought I should mention it.

Try using the option to "Find Model" then Save the Setup files and install things one at a time.
However, I would also note that SW Update seems to be feeling temperamental again - the Find Model route tells me there is nothing for my X4C, but there was a long list last time I checked.
If you don't succeed today, try again tomorrow.

Easy SW Manager - does this actually work for anyone?
