Exactly what do you mean? I don't work for the company. Just using something that solved two common complaints about my model notebook... so if I can't post the link to where I got it, then the post is of no use. You can delete the post if that is the case. -
Referral tags are extra tags which marketeers insert in links to online shops (Amazon, Newegg etc). Every time the link is clicked or a purchase is made from it, the marketeer gets a commission. It is a way for the online shop to direct more traffic to their site by paying commission to anybody who will help spreading links.
They usually have the form of ref=<referrer_id> added to the link.
When you see a deal promoted on one of the deal web sites and email services, they usually have referral tags in them. That's how they make money, nothing wrong with that.
But some individuals will make a business of posting links with their own referral tag on forums. NBR doesn't allow referral tags because we don't want members to be secretly profiteering from each other. If members have an item to sell, we have a Marketplace section for that. And if they represent a business, they must be upfront about it. It is covered in our forum rules.
When moderators notice referral tags, we edit them out and leave a note about it -- knowing that it is usually just a member who copied a link from a deal website, and not deliberate profiteering. And that's what happened in this case. Nothing to worry about.
If we see that a member keeps posting links with a particular referral tag, stronger action is taken -- including banning for spammed advertising. Katalin is an absolute wizard when it comes to fighting spammers, including ones disguising as members.jack53 likes this. -
OK, thanks! That wasn't my intention for sure!
And also why I included a pic of my stuff showing it.
So that explains why my link was still there then.
Just trying to help out members with a couple complaints about that particular model. -
You're fine. It happens all the time when members copy links from other sources. But do watch for it when you post a link here. You can just cut out the referral tag and leave the pure product link.
For the Samsung Ultrabook 13" Series 5 owners who....
