Galaxy Book Ion finally available in US, but only 8GB (as of 5/2/2020). 16GB when?

I am interested in the Galaxy Book Ion 15.6 16GB.
For months, I have been searching Google at least once a week and also waiting for Samsung to send me an update regarding availability in the US.
Today I noticed that a store in the US has the Galaxy Book Ion 15.6" model in stock, but only the 8 GB RAM model - NP950XCJ-K01US

Anyone heard anything about 16GB model availability in the US?

Per release yesterday by Samsung, seems the Ion may only come with 8 GB in the US and the Flex will be limited to 12 GB.
Interesting, since the Ion comes with 16 GB in Asia; too bad the price is much much higher.


I wanted the Ion since the Flex is significantly heavier than the Ion and Flex also has a shallower keyboard travel than the Ion and I did not exactly like the Notebook 9 Pen's keyboard (returned it due to that) which is similar to the Flex's keyboard I believe. Battery life is also a bit better on the Ion, although the Flex has great battery life too.

Given I already own a nice HP Elitebook 1050 G1 with 16 GB RAM, nVidia GTX 1050 and a Core i7-8750h with a fast 1 TB SSD, I want at least 16 GB RAM in any replacement laptop (e.g. Ion or alternative *).
My main reason for wanting the Ion is the much lighter weight than my HP, as well as better battery life. QLED display is also a nice plus on the Samsung.

* The LG Gram 15 was another contender due to being lightweight and battery life, like the Ion, but the keyboard leaves a little to be desired like the NB 9 Pen / Flex.

 

I'm currently in South Korea and a few weeks ago I went to the Samsung store in Gangnam. The keyboards have both the US and Korean layout, so if you are okay with that, it maybe something you want to think about. I'm from the UK, but I'm still planning to pick one up as I'm not sure if it will even be released in the UK.

On another note, I saw a Samsung Odyssey for the first time. I would never had recognized it as a Samsung

 

Interestingly not long before you posted this, I managed to buy a new 16GB Korean model Galaxy Flex for the same price as the Best Buy 12 GB US model.
My only hope is that I do not regret the keyboard travel and feel (I am typing this post on my HP Elitebook 1050 G1 keyboard which is very good and I did not like the Notebook 9 Pen specifically due to the keyboard - I even returned the Lenovo X1 Extreme which I got for 40% off the high retail price due to disappointing battery life even though most of the time I used it plugged in; the Lenovo's keyboard on mine (I read they use more than one supplier of keyboard for the same model laptop) while nice had a bit too much actuation force).
Worst case I will resell the 16GB Galaxy Flex and keep the loaded Elitebook 1050 G1 for now...
If the HP Elitebook were lighter and had slightly better battery life, I would perhaps not even have considered the Flex at this time (although QLED is also nice).
I also like that the Galaxy Flex has a nice solid build and a tough screen despite the light weight.
Last year I had purchased a very lightly used but still under warranty Surface Book 2 with 15" screen, 16GB RAM and 512GB HDD; due to it having already experienced battery wear despite a limited number of charges (battery report came in very handy), MIcrosoft replaced it with a new one.
I decided to sell it when I bought the Flex this weekend. I had been holding off from selling it but wanted to since it is heavy and not user-serviceable (did not think of that before purchasing it). If I am using it for work on a trip and the HDD dies, instead of being able to simply swap it out like with my HP Elitebook or now Galaxy Book Flex, I would have to send it to MSFT and wait for it to come back which is not a good option. Also once it is out of warranty they charge $649 for any 'repair' which is just replacing it with a refurbished unit since they cannot (easily) replace parts in these.
Anyway, back to the Flex: Hope I enjoy the Flex keyboard enough (typing on my HP 1050 G1 is making me wonder). Will have to see for myself...
People seem to prefer the Flex keyboard to the NB 9 Pen, so let's see.
Will find out soon enough when it arrives.

 

It's a baffling decision on Samsung's part to release a flagship 2020 lineup with just 8GB RAM (in the US anyway). You can get an i7 or a 512GB SSD... but 8GB RAM? Come on, Sammy.
