    Hi,

I tried to upgrade my hdd from a 60gb to a 250gb in a samsung x15. When i installed the new HD my comp wont recognize it. I get this error message during the XP pro setup "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer". I read around and i have Nlite i was going to slipstream the IDE storage driver right into the installation, but i can't find Samsung Storage drivers anywhere. Does anyone know where i can find these drivers or does anyone have this driver?

For some unknown reason the X15 is not listed on the main Samsung download site. The X15 drivers are at SamsungPC.com. Grab everything and burn them to a CD in case this site gets cleaned up.

I presume that the BIOS sees the HDD and reports its model and size.

The X15 has the Intel 855 chipset, but Intel has nothing special to offer.

Do you have good reason to believe that the X15 supports 250GB? The specifications only mention up to 80GB. You might have fallen foul of the addressing change for HDDs greater than 137GB. See the suggestions in the WD knowledgebase.

If you can't see the old HDD then check the connecting cable.

I checked the cable and even swapped the cable with my X10 but its still doesnt recognize. Is it possible that I somehow blew the connector on the motehrboard when I plugged in the 250gb? Could that be the case? Am i going to need an entirely new board?

It's unlikely that you "blew" the connector. Modern HDDs tend to use less power than the old ones.

Updating / reflashing the BIOS might flush out the problem if the computer has got confused about the HDD.

Get the ISO version of the BIOS update. You can then edit it with an ISO editing software such as MagicISO to replace the BIOS file.

I havent done a BIOS flash before. The newest update for the BIOS on the samsung website is 09VK which is only an .exe. The older version is 08VE is an .NGR. Can i just add the newer version into the image, burn the image and type the newer version into the A: prompt? Sorry for all the rookie questions.

Unfortunately, the two updaters are different.

I guess you won't be able to run the .exe version unless you get Windows running, although it is possible that you could put the file on a a floppy or CD that is set up to boot into DOS (visit bootdisk.com). The .nrg file is set up to write a bootable CD. I've just tried looking into it using MagicISO but I can't see anything.

So first try the .nrg file - burn it to a CD and boot from the CD.

I've tried each of the images from Samsungpc.com. 07VE.nrg and 08VE.nrg and they both say:

    A:\> 07ve.exe
    Build date error!!

    A:\> 08ve.exe
    Build date error!!

When i tried to flash the 09VK.exe with the bootdisk from bootdisk.com i says.

"There is no packed file for Dos."

    Any suggestions?

You could try this, which is the ISO file for a bootable CD.

First unzip it to extract the ISO file. Then, open Magic ISO, select the BIOS update file and then use the bootable ISO file to make a bootable CD with the BIOS update EXE. That's the theory.
