    Hi,

I recently bought this Samsung laptop NP370R5E model which runs on Win 8. The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3120 CPU @ 2.50GHz this is what's in the product manual and what I get when I right click on the my computer icon on the desktop.

But when I check it with 'Intel Processor Identification Utility' apps it says that the expected speed is 2.50 GHz and the reported speed is 1.19GHz.

Also, when I go to Task Manager-> Performance-> The speed displayed there is 1.15 GHz. This isn't normal right? What's the problem with my laptop? Which is the original speed? It's been just three days since bought it and yesterday I brought it to the service center for removing the camera. The place where I am going to work doesn't allow camera devices. Ever since I went to the service center I felt a little lag with my laptop so that I done all the checks and really disappointed with the results.

Could you please help me with what's actually happening?

Thank you so much for any and all your help!

Download and run HWiNFO. This has a very useful animated display of CPU speed which will vary according to the workload from about 800 MHz or 1200 MHz (the minimum speed depends on the CPU - mine is 800 MHz but yours may be 1200 MHz) up to 2500 MHz depending on the workload.

If your CPU speed is not fluctuating above the minimum speed then check (i) you have not enabled Silent Mode (which locks the CPU to the minimum speed in order to reduce the heat generated); Eco mode (which does the same to use less power); or are running either on battery or with a Power Saver power plan.

    Thanks John,

That is really helpful information you shared there. Actually, my laptop was running on single core even though it's dual core. There was this guy who changed it from single to dual by typing in the msconfig in the command search and then from the screen BIOS then from single core to dual core. Now the speed went upto 2:50 GHz. I don't know how it went from dual core to single core at the time of checking.

    Best,
