So, my little notebook powers up and all, but the screen is totally blank and I'm worried I might've broken it somehow, (at least the backlight?) I tried a few remedies to no avail. I really hope that I didn't break it!
I'm not sure what you'll need to know, but I will try and provide better information as I'm asked. Please help!

The notebookcheck review indicates that the R780 display has an LED backlight. These are usually very reliable so, assuming that you have the same panel, then that is unlikely to be the problem. The first test should be to check that the graphics output is still working OK by connecting to a monitor or TV with a computer or HDMI input.

More likely is a problem connecting the display to the mainboard. Years of being twisted every time the display is opened or shut is an arduous existing which can eventually cause problems with the cable or the connectors at each end. The first place to check is the connector on the mainboard. These sometimes work loose and pulling out / putting back the plug may be enough. It's very unlikely that the connection to the display will work loose so cable replacement is the next step. Used cables salvaged from dead R780s are available on ebay.

Thanks! Graphics seem to be working, so that's a good sign.
I'll have to check the connectors and the cables next. Ok.
