    hey, just want to know how are the line of Samsung notebooks? Any good? how's their screen?their sound? They reliable? they breakdown fast? How's service from Samsung? Thanx guys.

    Recent i ask cuz i'm gonna be getting me laptop somewher in august or latest, early september. It's my use-for-uni-to-watch-and-game-and-do-work for 2 years plus. So i want it to be able to play say, Unreal 3 on my native resolution (either WXGA or XGA)

    No frills needed and AA and all that not necessary. Any suggestions? Want decent sound and screen so was considering the Toshiba's cuz they got SRS wif harmon Kardon speakers wit CSV. But the Satellite's a bit pricey for they specs it comes with. Want AT LEAST 128mb of GPU. though, a 256 wouldn;'t hurt. Don't want it to be too heavy cuz gonna be travelling a lot in UK. preferably not more than 3 kg. but around 2kg would be ideal.

    Any help guys? got 2 more months tho.

    My comment : Average for anything, not particularly bad, nor is there anything outstanding about it. Although i do like their previous designs with aluminium casings 0_0.

    People who are looking for gaming machines wouldnt be looking for samsung, cuz they aren't good at it. Businessmen wouldn't use samsung stuff either, cuz IBM and Acer just pwns them.

    Oh btw i do agree that TOshiba notebooks are relatively expensive than others.

    My suggestions are as follows

    IBM or Acer for Mobility-orientated notebooks
    If you want a bit more room for boosting/upgrading in the future, you may want to consider HP Compaq too

    I actually like Samsung a good deal, but they're not availabel in the US. Dell has rebreded one of them as the X1, but that's about it.

    If you can buy a Samsung, I would highly recommend it to you based on weight and materials used alone. They may be a bit pricey, but their x50, which is a 15.4" Sonoma notebook, weighs only 2.4 kg (about 5.29 lbs). As far as I know, there's not any mainstream brand in the US that offers a 15.4 inch "thin and light" notebook. In some countries they offer this notebook with a x700 128 MB graphics card (decent for gaming). Or take a look at the Q30, which is the same notebook as the Dell Latitude X1 but is constructed out of magnesium alloy. It has a 12.1" widescreen and weighs only 1.1 kg (about 2.43 lbs), making it extremely portable.

    Where did you get the information that the Japanese own the copyright to Samsung? It's the first time I've ever heard that.

    I don't get what you're trying to say by "cheap tec ware". Samsung sells some of the highest quality electronics in the industry, which is why they also happen to be the most profitable. Also, what do you mean by "where u live does not mean where u die"?

    Haz2005 better get his facts straight. He does not know what he is talking about.

    If Japan owns copyrights of Samsung, which Japanese company would that be?? Name one.

    It's like give and take. Samsung owns certain technologies that Japanese companies would pay royalties for. Also Samsung pays royalties to Japanese companies. I'm sure you know why. Well do you??

    Just for your information, it's a normal thing. everybody does it and THAT DOES NOT mean A owns B. If you want to own something, the only logical way to do so is to buy stocks and become the largest stock holder. However this is more difficult than offering $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to buy the company.

    Well did you know that Samsung was more profitable than Sony last year?? Not to mention Toshiba and other Japanese companies could not even compete when it comes to profit.

    You might want to say that they have been selling cheap gadgets to make more profit than Sony but can you name one that is SO cheap that you can just throw away within 6 months?? In many case, if not more, you have to pay as much as other Japanese products.

    Dude get your facts straight. Many, Many companies around the world are going to the Samsung lab in Korea to learn about thier achievements, that includes many of reputable companies.

    I know b/c I'm a CS and MBA major. We did a lot of case study about Samsung and other Korean companies.

    N Ireland, ehe??

    PS) I am not affiliated with Samsung at all.

    Now, back to the subject.

    I did own a Samsung X10 notebook when it first came out. I had a chance to visit Korea and bought one from Korea. Well Well it was expensive.

    I didn't plan to get a laptop when I went to korea but I had to when I first saw it. It was nothing like others I've seen in the past. It was damn thin and light for being 14.1" and 2 spindle notebook.

    Just the fact that the thickest part of the notebook was less than ONE inch, I had to get it. The thinnest I've seen at the time was about 1.2 inches.

    It had 2.5" HDD, 2 full RAM slots, user accessible Mini-PCI slot, dedicated VRAM of 64MB and user accessible HDD comparment. It is normal now but it wasn't when 1st gen. Centrino came out.

    The screen was beautiful, although it was only XGA, and bright. The overall built quality was excellent to be honest with you.

    Later that year, Gateway came out with rebagged X05, degraded version of X10 and thicker, as 200M or something.

    The only con that I hard with Samsung X10 was that it ran little hot but wasn't a big deal.

    I've heard that Samsung notebooks have gotten better over the years so I'm sure it's ok to get one now.

    If they have it in the US, I will ditch Sony, Dell, Acer... etc without a doubt.

    I guess I should visit Korea again but my company is not sending me there again.... too bad.

    Get one, you won't regret it.

    BTW, Samsung is not selling their notebooks in the US b/c they have a deal with Dell. (Not b/c of a bomb thing) Not to compete each other. But Dell would buy certain models from Samsung and rebagged them.

    Samsung is one of Korea's greates brand and company. I think actually they are the number three, just behind a car company and LG Electronics.
    Here in Austria Samsung has been sold since some years, i don't know it exactly any more. They started with cheap radios with cd functionality. Nowadays Samsung offers very much, they just want to be a little Sony. They built and build a image therefore.

    I bought a Samsung notebook a month ago (if you want to see a pic of it: http://www.samsungpc.com/products/x20/x20.htm). I'm really happy with it, the only disturbing thing is the cd/dvd. it's very noisy and it can't read every cd and dvd.
    the keyboard is perfectly good, the best i've ever seen at a notebook. i also like the idea behind the touchpad, you can just turn it off, if you don't need it any more. so you can really work (eg you are going to write a letter or a reply for a forum ;-)).
    all in all i am very satisfied with my purchase and I would buy the thing again. it's really worth the money.

    if you'd like to know something in particular, just ask me straight ahead!

    PS: If there are any heavy mistakes on this text, please tell me

    My thoughts exactly. Samsung has taken over Sony's place as the world's most innovative consumer electronics company (in fact, Samsung's name brand recognition is higher than Sony outside of the U.S.). I honestly think their notebooks are among the world's best if not the BEST.

    Great review and I just wanted to point out that Samsung is the largest Korean company. Hyundai is number 2, and LG is number 3.

    I think Samsung is on the best way to take over Sony's place as the world's most innovative consumer electronics company. Are you really sure that Samsung's brand recognation is higher than Sony's (outside the US)? I don't think so. Because Sony is older and offers (far) more products than Sony - Sony sells over 600 (!) products permanently.
    OK, you can be also right. It's all a stand of view what's the largest company. Is the company larger when it has more employees or makes the biggest exchange. I can imagine Samsung makes more exchange than LG, but more than Hyundai?

    Thanks, I'm happy you found my review useful.

    http://product.samsung.com/pdf/best_global_brands_2005.pdf

    I assumed that Samsung has a higher brand recognition than Sony because the "Samsung" brand is valued at $14.96 billion while the "Sony" brand is valued at $10.75 billion.

    Hyundai used to be the largest company in South Korea until the end of the 20th century, when Samsung surpassed it in revenues earned.

    Played with Samsung laptops in the shop. Seems to be well built and the materials used are mostly metallic. Impressed with those 15/17" ones and also with the red 12" one.
    P28 is however truly horrible.

    @kjung

    a notebook with a x600 can't be a bad choice for playing the latest games ...
    Of course you can play with Samsung laptops with x600 as good as any others.

    For further information read my review about my notebook (Samsung x20):

    however, when looking at x50 .. it seems alot nicer (128mb x700) ..however i dunno if i can live with a widescreen.. as im not very tech oriented can someone tell me what the 15.4" WXGA screen is like?

    and also tell me what IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® M (Dothan) Processor (FSB 533MHz) means

    and if it has wireless capabilities

    thanks

    Samsung China has a website listing its sales locations in all over China. Unfortunately, the website is in Chinese, no English. You probably need to ask the business center at the hotel you'll be staying to help out.

    Here is the link.

    http://www.samsung.com.cn/support/saleslocation/index.asp

    (Step 1: Province --> Guangdong
    Step 2: City --> Shenzhen
    Step 3: Product --> notebook)
